Damn jorx, that is one hella custom intake! Was any part of your kit actually Pettit, or is it all custom and pieced together bit by bit?

my super charger is the very first proto type from pettit before production ever began!! i have the production intake as seen in the first pick, and i was able to pick up the original inercooler casts but i need to source an intercooler to be welded in-between them, i will do that once my new motor build begins and im running the 14psi pully.

I have the super-extended BHR spark plug wires (23" and 28") so I can probably mount them just about anywhere within reason, TBH. I was planning on mounting them in the usual Pettit setup location, attached to the intake tray, but also maybe slightly off to the left of the intake tube closer to the battery in the open space so they are fully visible in their nice blue aluminum BHR mounting rack, if the extra plug-wire reach allows me to.

And jorx - wow, that's crazy you're running a piece of history in the making in your engine bay! That will generate some talk at the car shows for sure. Also I assume you mean the 13psi pulley? As far as I'm aware we have 8psi, 11psi, and 13psi pulleys.

And finally, I see you mentioned you need to source an intercooler..? Why do you say this? The air-to-water intercooler for our systems is built into the intake manifold... Is yours missing one or something..? I see the coolant nipple on the front so it's got one built-in, right? Or are you talking about adding another, turbo-style front-mount intercooler or something?

the pettit casts have no intercooler, i have to source one out to look like the final product, my coils are mounted where my ac compressor was, so i had no need to extend the wires. and yes 13psi pulley

I was asking since your engine bay is going to be so clean and organized and attaching it to the tray as per the instructions looks pretty bad. Especially with your CAI, the intake will be better shielded so I would prob eliminate the tray if I were you. And just get some nice bolts/washers and attach it where the tray mounts

Duly noted I'm definitely getting rid of that horrid old filthy ugly black plastic waffle-pattern intake tray, and replacing it with this slimmer, lower-profile brushed-silver LRB-Speed tray!

So I FINALLY got my car on a dyno. And well it’s a bit underwhelming. Keep in mind it’s a mustang dyno which typically read low or at least not as easily manipulated as a dyno jet correction file. It was a dyno day so I talked to some of the other big hp guys and they were all off by 10% or so from what they expected since they would regularly dyno and drag race their cars. My motor had a compression test less than 1k miles ago and were around 105 on all the faces. The current tune is def a safe one. Mostly high 10s under boost. 8psi pulley. The dyno operator/shop owner drove it on the dyno and told me it felt like a really smooth tune compared to most rx8s he drives. Still I has hoping to be in the 280 range. Now I am just trying to restrain myself from ordering an 11psi pulley and an adaptronic.

Ugh, only about 247rwhp at the wheels? Huh... I could've sworn most dynos put well-tuned Pettit RX8's at about 270-280 with the 8psi pulley. Maybe it's just a bit off like you said since it's a Mustang dyno? I'd try a different, more accurate dyno before spending big bucks on an Adaptronic unit or risking your motor with that crazy 11psi pulley... And don't you have to upgrade your fuel pump and injectors to support that, too? And it kills your Renny in about 20-30K miles because of the boost level..? ****, I'm really aiming to get 270-280 out of mine at 8psi so I hope your dyno readings are just off a bit...

Mustang is a bit of a heart breaker ...... If it feels fast enough don't go down the big pulley rabbit hole !

Yeah, don’t focus so much on the peak number. It’s making pretty good flat torque compared to an NA engine; 150 - 170 lb-ft from 3000 - 8000 rpm. A SC is not really a good fit for high rpm rotary power.

I've heard a lot of debate over what dyno is the best or most accurate - dynojet, Mustang, etc. - what do you think would be the best for dynoing my RX8 before SC installation and then afterwards to best document the gains?

dynojet, it'll help you feel better about all the money you're spending.

honestly, just use the same type before and after. Don't use a dynojet before as it can give higher #'s and then a mustage dyno after the install which will just get you all depressed.

As long as you use the same dyno before and after you get a valid comparison

Basically that's what dynos are good for....

Bragging rights and big numbers look for a dyno you can adjust 😏

Yeah I already went down that hole once and the motor lasted 20k. I was saying it a bit tongue in cheek. It feels fast enough for the street. I’ll prob do a dyno jet at some point to feel better about my “investment”. It is on the richer side but it’s a safe tune. And considering what I dumped into the rebuild, an extra 10whp isn’t worth the risk.

I mostly posted the graph to give give an honest dyno reading for people who wonder what these kits make. My setup is pretty typical. Say mustangs read lower and I get 260 on a dyno jet. That’s a good amount of power for the street. It’s not dominating at the drag strip but it makes the car fun. I still think the supercharger is a good match for a fun weekend car. Torque comes on fast and the power is linear so it’s very easy to modulate. It’s just a little disheartening to know that 300rwhp is prob not a possibility with my setup

othersyde im possibly going to produce MAF tubes. as the one supplied by rx8 performance is just thin and week. lmk if you would be interested in one. strength would be that of the pettit one and racing beat one.

Othersyde ...just was looking at your front grill ....... If you want to improve cooling would be a good idea to choose a less dense grill than that ...it looks very restrictive to me.

jorx7 who is doing your tuning? I see your signature says Edison. If it is Edison NJ then I am like an hour from there
