OK you sum bitch (that is a friendly term in the south now), why did you have to go and do this NOW. You know I have an R3 i am doing.......aghhhh.
Wonder---can the s1 engine, ecu and harness go into the s2 and vice versa? Hmmmmmm that way I could sell my 04 with an 09 driveline and have the only FI R3 in the WORLD!!!!

What engine management did you decide to use?
According to RickE the internals are not differant at all--only a few oil channel changes, the specs and all are the same.
Calf Style--- the Miata driver had what we call the Red Mist. Its weird but people always seem to drive faster chasing a faster car.
That sure seems like a fun track---lots of left handed turns--we dont have many of those in the States. I wonder why?hehe.

hey OD, yeah the track was awesome:
The R3 seems to be the ECu is the key, once its reflashable, you are good to go I reckon....

Ha, just doing it now so I make you jellos, lol. Na, if you look at the ECU settup the box is completly different and redisigned. No managment yet. Im just putting the blower on and not installing the belt till I get that sorted. The internals are the same but things well, are a little different. Remove your airbox and youl see what im talking about.

I agree, it seems from the crazy temp spike that somehow the your getting a flame in the intake. Also having more port open acounts for the higher VAC.

So being the adventurous one, i blocked mine open. As soon as I gave it more than a 50% load and let the throttle off my charge temps jumped
so high it maxed my gauge out (it goes to 300F), One second it was at 105 or so then suddenly +300 when I let off the throttle. Plus my engines vacum went to around 40. My sensor is on the upper part of the lim.
There is only one place that can provide heat like that and it was sumized by the group that the hot combustion gas's where being pushed back into the lim in some way.
Well I didnt care really how it was happening at that time, i just brought the apv back to norm.
Do you have a different explanation?
OD
Yip
When you let off the throttle there is suddenly a large vacuum in the uim . When the rotor is at the point where it blocks off the primary port and Aux port is still open , the rotor is beginning to compress the air in the chamber .
At low engine speeds this compression will push the air back into the uim aided by the vacuum already in the uim. At speeds approaching 6000 this gets less and less prevalent .
I believe this is also why we see very poor torque below 6000 rpm if the aux. ports are left open . A quantity of air actually cycles around the intake instead of it all being compressed .

Ok, only 6 hours over the past few days into the project and I've already painted and installed the OMP relocation bracket and OMPs plus rerouted the OMP feed lines. Minor fab work on the blower mounting bracket and then its time to cut the harness open next. Going a lot smoother then planned. Denny, its looking like its going to be easy. Wait till this is done and I'm sure your going get another blower. Hmm, what shall we do about management. PS, Brettus, then why the raise in boost temps? OD, did your boost pressure raise or spike at all when this was all happening?

When the air is being ingested by the engine there is enough new air coming through to cool any recirculated air .
When you back off the throttle there is no new air , plus you will get a little air carried over from the exhaust stroke that can get sucked into the uim.

Na --no boost spikes.
I will not try that again ---i do know that.
I will have the R3 a little longer than I ordiginally thought----i found some of the dreaded "black wire disease" in the interior harness---so i am trying to source a 06 or later harness so I can replace the entire thing. The discoloration stopped halfway up from the floor to the console----but at this point i think it is best to just replace it all.
I cant buy a new one ---that is for sure
Moon if you make this happen--you know my wife is going to come up there and beat you *** with a cast iron frying pan?

lol---i warned her it may only make things worst, but she said she didnt care --it would make HER feel better. God I love that woman.

hey wouldnt it be easier to just swap to an s1 engine, ecu and engine harness?
The more I talk to some "big dogs" the more I hear that the internals are no differant and the omp will only marginally improve things. Just up the oil flow in the SI, pre mix and get this--oil temps need to be lower than oridginally believed.

You can go through all that but remeber other stuff like the mating the ECU to the other modules. Could always go stand alone.

Hmmm, woundering if I can wire up RX7 managment? Since I only have 4 injectors it might work, any impute on that idea?

Denny, got a question. What do you think of attaching some sort of pressure regulator to the boost/vac line going to the bypass valve? It would eventually be removed but it’s a idea so I can keep from pushing full boost for tuning reasons and until I can figure out if the fuel supply is enough.

Why dont you just install another injector and get a stand alone controller for it
leaving everything else stock . Saw it done in a thread here a few years back . Worked pretty well up to a point .....

Too bad we do not have a fuel return system, we could add a boost referencing fuel pressure regulator and get the A/F part of the tune.

/move the knock sensor to the blower gear case to cut the timing advance back..... LOL

OD, I wonder if opening the APV all the time caused it to run adiabatic; a 50 Mpg RX8 would be nice....

you can run without the bypass if you want--boost is controlled by rpm and throttle --not the bypass.
if you want to control boost just swap the bypass for a blow off valve?
Be noisy as hell and sound like a turbine.
Swapping over to a return fuel system so that the rail fp is more constant is starting show importance---even with NA cars on track.

Adiabatic?? Smokey would have been proud......... but I dont think so lol.

06 and later s1 engine , pcm and engine wiring harness--should be plug and play?
I like the way the S2's opened the pcm case up--instead of being closed and REAL hot in the box

I'm sure you can control the boost pressure buy limiting the pressure that that holds the bypass valve closed. If say you only allow 4 psi to the valve it should restrict pressure throughout the system in theory.

Moon, have you sealed the water IC inlet bung yet?
if not figure it out and if you need the welding done again let me know.
cant wait to see the new low profile setup.

I have contact details for the guy that designed the Powermod that I used with some success a while back . He would like to develop it for the S2 but needed a donor car . He might work with you if you were willing to do the trial and error part .
Unfortunately he is in AUS though ...
