Awesome!

Don't bother looking over your shoulder cuz I already have a spare key of your R3. Just make sure that the tank is full and get rid of that nasty stain on the back seat.

How much you want for that spare key? I need one
New throwout bearing in.
Even the wife likes it.
May end up keeping it and my Pet 8 would be a track monster?
Looks like I may be able to have a "clean" title--no rebuild. Seems that in the state of ga if less than 1 major component is replaced a normal title can be issued.
woo--hooo!

Went down to Pettit to pick up my car on Friday. Got into Palm Beach at about 8pm and was promptly picked up by Lou. got to the shop where Cam was back under the hood rerouting hoses and making the engine bay look neater. I joined in and we did that until about 2am. At that time we determined that maybe we should get some sleep, so we plug everything up so it would run, and off to my hotel I went. On the way there, I noticed that I was running lean and my fuel pressure is low (about 54 psi). At idle, my afr are normal, but when I give it gas, it doesn't get richer, it actually got even leaner, I saw 17 at one point. So, I took it easy. Left for the shop the next day and got a code p2004 APV stuck open. Car still driving okay. Got to the ship at about 1030. Cam looked at APV and thinks it was an anomoly. I do remember throwing that code when the engine blew. It does seem to have lost a little low end response, so I think that might be an issue, but not related to the lean condition. I reset that and took it for a drive. Immediately after pulling out, I threw a P0171, running lean. I turned around and brought it back. We checked vacuum hoses and changed the fuel pump but still no change. The car sometimes surges a little when initially started, but otherwise idles fine. CAM went to search for his service manual but can't find it. A couple other customers rolled by and he helped them while I finished cleaning up the engine bay. After a lot of discouragement and at about 4pm, I decided that I wasn't going to miss another Halloween with my daughter ( I was deployed last year) so I called my wife, booked a flight, and flew home. Cam wants to take the injectors out Monday thinking something might be blocking one, but the fuel pressure is measured before the injectors, so I don't think that is the issue. I was thinking that maybe my wideband was bad until I got the P0171. Any ideas?

Only one: Moon and I had a similar problem on my first blower. There's a plate that bolts to the back of the blower (firewall side) that is supposed to be sealed with a PermaTex type instant gasket material. That gasket material may have formed a void (leak) when then the plate ( which holds the end bearings for the blower screws) was screwed to the blower housing. Start it up and spray that plate with WD40 and check it.

By the way --if you want to reduce engine bay temps --then get the S2 undertray. It has a spoiler under it that creates a low pressure area that helps to draw the heat out. Pretty sweet of mazda to do that.

what color is that?

also Denny, not sure but I would imagine with the different shape of the SII bumper the undertray may have a different profile/shape? again not sure, but if they changed the spoiler and the bumper I would imagine that it would not fit the SIs...

then make your own? hehe

leaning out?
if the apv is stuck open you will get a sudden surge of hot combustion air back into the intake when you lift the throttle. Are you measuring air intake temps?
Do you have the s1 type pump?

Yes go be with your daughter---glad your priorities are that way.

Oh---yes it does.
Let me explain.
I short while ago several of us were having a discussion about the apv valve and when it should be opened et
c etc.

So being the adventurous one, i blocked mine open. As soon as I gave it more than a 50% load and let the throttle off my charge temps jumped
so high it maxed my gauge out (it goes to 300F), One second it was at 105 or so then suddenly +300 when I let off the throttle. Plus my engines vacum went to around 40. My sensor is on the upper part of the lim.
There is only one place that can provide heat like that and it was sumized by the group that the hot combustion gas's where being pushed back into the lim in some way.
Well I didnt care really how it was happening at that time, i just brought the apv back to norm.
Do you have a different explanation?

yeah he made the classic "try and follow the racing driver in a race car" mistake....

Edit: Also note that on the efidude lap breakdown I wrote "Gracelands...fast left..very tricky"...... guess where he spun in the vid!?

you must have some RETARDED(as in crazy-dumb) timing then... the intake ports are long closed by the time combustion happens

unless it's carrying boosted combustion cycle gases that can't get out into the exhaust system easy enough over into the intake cycle ...

Well, day 1 of 09 tear down was definitely interesting. There's a lot that isn't seen buy just looking under the hood of this puppy. I guess Mazda wanted to make engine removal easier. Should have the rest torn apart tomorrow evening. Ill throw up some pics when I have it stripped.
