How about someone at Mazsport vid an 8 on a dyno that clealy shows them putting brand new oem coils and changing the plugs and making a run with fresh, new coils and plugs, then changing them out and putting the upgraded coils on, changing the plugs again, then making a run with the upgrade and new plugs and seeing what the hp difference is, if any. I must stress to make this apples to apples, you must put new of both for each run, same day, same gas, same everything. If they do that and prove that you gain 10 hp, I will put my order in and it would be worth the 600 cause any other upgrade/price is not as good as that. I have changed my plugs before and gained 5 hp just doing that, why, cause they were not firing right and needed to be changed.
same car, same fuel, i think within two hours of each other. same plugs.
the wires were different.
btw, the coils on my car are not the same as on needspistons.
how about you do it and disprove us? i like nachos!

This is why marketing for h.p. is quite tricky. At the least, we have learned over the past five years that the coils on the RX-8 are crap and you need to change them about every 25,000 miles for reliable performance. That alone makes some ignition systems more attractive than the OEM coils. How about those intake systems that claim to add 10 h.p.?

I agree with you on the intakes and just about all of it. Just like they say the turbonater will give you 10% more hp. Maybe after they changed the filter and put it on while the filter was being changed. I have tried alot of junk to cars over the years that claim better power/performance and most are just gimmicks. Now, I question everything out there and either test it myself (if I have the money) or look to see if they have a video that shows step by step (so far none do) in a controlled test that shows the difference and all they changed was the one part. I have tried many different sparkplugs, filters, oils, additives, and other stuff. Bottom line, the only time one worked as it should was the flywheel I put on the 8. I was told about 4 hp and 4 or so torque and, i had it tested before and after, went from 181.7 to 185.3 and torque was 133.7 and went to 139.7. I have the dynos on my computer. It as not exact on both but did what it said it going to do. Most others that I have tested have been junk.

very interesting on that. Would also prove my point as you burn more fuel, you increase power. If the stock coils are not firing correctly on top end, the upgrade would solve the problem. Still have to check new vs new on the coils and plugs. Change both but would prove is disprove. If I get to work as much as I hope I am going to later this year, I will do the experiment myself and see if Authur will vid it and will put this to rest. I am all for something that actually works and creates better hp at the same time. I just make sure that the plugs and coils are new both times. I am not saying the oem coils are good, I am saying that if they are going out that fast for some of you, by all means put the upgrade on but, unless you test in the manner I just said, you cannot legitimately claim a hp increase. You can, however, argue that since the upgrade will hold up, you will maintain hp over failing oem coils. That is a legit claim and, in saying that, THAT makes the upgrade worth buying especially for racing purposes.

not being marketed for hp. i was just noting what happened..
seems like mpg is up just a bit also. but i have to burn through a couple of more tanks to be sure..
i guess that when i report on how the new radiator works i am going to have to buy a new stock one to compare it to! just to keep everyone happy!

^..............Agree and I did it for that reason and maybe one or two more small reasons....none of which are HP related. If I got a little increase, then okay that was a plus.
Cliff, instead of bitchin so much about no money, you should get off the board awhile(quit typing), get another job(assumes you have one) and then go buy whatever you like for whatever reason. Jeez! I'm just kidding for the most part!
If in time the BHR's prove out to be as good as I believe they will be, then I will most likely switch over to them.

I don't think any, even BHR's coils will give you hp gain NA
however, it will definitly make your car feel "better" and most likely wouldn't fall to pieces in Turbo applications

Taj.....agreed, I might simply be looking to eventually get rid of the igniter box(in my case). Not that there is anything wrong with it at all.

I posted my negative so I think its fair to mazsport to post by positives as well. They just called me and said they mailed my ignition today. I thought the personal phone call showed that they do care about their customers. Thanks Mazsport.
Please stay tuned for my ranting posts on me not figuring out how to instal the thing now. But that will in fact be 100% my fault, and not mazsports.

When ... I ordered mine back in July. I wonder if they shipped out a batch. And hopefully mine was part of that batch.
Making a call.

^I'm guessing they probably moved me ahead of the bunch awaiting for orders since I was acting like a child on this forum and complaining alot. That or they sent me a crappy one that's shot.

I just hope we all get ours soon. I called Mazsport (talked with Sarah, REALLY cool person) and asked them for the name and number of the part supplier that's suppose to be supplying the part needed for the kits. Of course we can't have it (legal issue). It would be good if we had that info though. REAL GOOD.
