Wow really? Thats not the answer I expected. I thought I just ordered the wrong thing. How much is expensive? I paid $1 a piece for the clips I bought, which turned out to be the clips for the front bumper. Anyone have a link to where I can purchase originals or knockoffs? If I asked a wrecker for a few, what exactly would I be asking for?

Those would work, it'll only be difficult to remove though; but that's just me, I always find myself removing those clips pretty often when I take the bumper out.

 

No not quite. The ones Im looking for have a phillips head screw on the top instead of a flat push button. Close, but no cigar Im afraid.

I too remove them quite often, hence why I have lost a bunch. I wouldnt want to break them off every time I need to remove. I did a search and found a lot of different options, I was hoping for clarification of measurments also. Something like this:

Head Diameter: 18mm
Stem Length: 12mm
Fits Into 8mm Hole

These are the one I found that look correct, but I need measurements to be sure. Again, I ordered a set already and they were the wrong thing.

 

okay, perfect question for the dumb question thread...

for some reason i cannot pop any large flames...

ive had my midpipe for about 6months but not one flame was big.

the only flames i get are the little wet explosive farts that only extend about 2inches past the exhaust tip.

i also get very loud pops. is it possible that my car is just leaner than other rx8s?

Why are flames out of the exhaust desirable?
Wouldn't more flames mean more unburned fuel igniting in the exhaust? Doesn't that indicate a misfire?

It is very tune dependent. For example, going through MM's calibration, my 1st through 4th revisions were pretty much incapable of generating a backfire, my 5th revision was like a string of firecrackers, I could create them on demand, including being able to rip off 20-30+ in a row by just popping the throttle. My 6th and final revision removed that, and I only got a tiny pop on a hard shift, and occasionally a huge boom if the circumstances were just right.

Yes, it means unburnt fuel, though that doesn't always mean a misfire. A misfire will always be adding more fuel to the exhaust, but rotaries always dump some portion of fuel into the exhaust when you let off the throttle. It's simply a case of there always being a rotor face that is after the fuel injection point and before the ignition point. Letting off abruptly chops this ignition, and that face's fuel is dumped. It's part of our inefficiency. Add to this, our exhaust is much hotter than a piston engine'd car, and you have two of the three elements needed for fire. The 3rd shows up once it gets out of the exhaust system at the rear.

Flames from the tailpipe, backfires, etc... are immature, inefficient, environmentally unfriendly, and potentially dangerous. But then, that's exactly why so many rotorheads love it

I have a automatic 2004 rx8
When I drive my car for about an hour, mainly to the city, the car starts acting up as if it doesn't want to go when I step on the gas pedal. I push the gas all the way and the car only begins to accelerate 5 to 10 seconds later. It feels as if it was to turn off, but so far it hasn't done that. For this reason I'm always scared of driving my car to distant places.
What could the problem be?

 

Do you ever have trouble getting the car to start once it is hot? It sounds like your compression could be low - a compression test may be in order for you.

Also, more info on the mileage and what kind of maintenance you have done to the car would be helpful.

 

 

Ok, so it occurred to me the other day why my clutch has probably never really worked quite right after the install.

Had a shop install ACT prolight and street clutch, only to encounter an oil leak (one shop blamed another blah blah blah never really was able to figure out who was responsible) anyways replaced the clutch disk only as the oil seeped into the bell housing saturating the disk damaging it.

Car was up and running, no engagement problems but I noticed whenever I got on it hard, I could smell clutch. During my rebuild I have been working on when I pulled the pressure plate and flywheel I noticed some dark discoloration on them. Now my thought is that these parts also got damaged due to oil which is now causing my clutch to burn during spirited driving.

Now my questions, can these pieces be resurfaced or just replace them, and if I replace the flywheel do I need a new counter weight, are they made in a set or just a new flywheel?

I've been interested in porting and what can be done on the renisis. I've emailed one local company and they were great. Pineapple up here in washington. The guy I talked to was very knowlageable and shared that that the power gains for what they could do isn't totally worth it. Then enlightened me on going turbo. And the need/ or maybe just better chances with carbon ceramic apex seals.

So i'm wondering. Is there porting for my motor like the 13b from the fd &fc with big power gains? what are my options as far as getting some more power. What is more cost effective and what are the Pro's and cons? Currently I have a Cobb AP and some other minor engine mods.

 

I also posted same question in my own thread, but it's still named "2 days to buy a car" so I'm not expecting many answers there. Here it goes.


Alright, if I could wait 2 months - I would go for OE cat. But Right now I can't drop $1000+ .
So, after reading various stickies and some other threads, I'm undecided on which would be the better cheap option:

-MagnaFlow 59959 welded on OE pipe,
or
- MagnaFlow Direct Fit Catalytic Converters 49150

I'm looking for something that would last about 2 years of regular driving + autocrossing 1-2 times a month, and that I can close at around $500

I'll appreciate everyone's input.

 

I sold my old cat for 350 on here. why not just pick up a used one? even if it is used. so long as it is within the 8 year window it is covered under warranty.

 

The way you said it, I'm not sure if you mean 8 year on car or cat. My car is '04, emissions warranty expired.

But I'm checking FS section now, see if there is anything to grab there now.
