An article on the top limits speedometers go to on various cars got me thinking. http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/s...j5fnJfRV.email

How high do our digital gauges go? And, does the computer in the rx8 have an upper speed limiter on it?

our cars are drag limited. you could switch to kph and see how high you could get it (track of course)

On a dyno the S1 redlines in 6th at 176 mph. S2 I don't know. But we run out of puff at 150 ish depending on a ton of variables. The autos are limited.

Has any one had the issue where one of your exhaust tips seems to be sitting higher than the other? I just installed my fujitsubo legalis R and my left tip seems to be considerably higher than the right 1. My exhaust shroud is not melting, but I believe if I keep it this way it might. Is this just a simple matter of taking it off the hangars/putting it back on until it seems straight, or is there some sort of strategy to this? Thanks.

My exoticspeed sits at the correct height but is off center favoring the driver side, it's a process to get dead center position. Adjust-wait-verify-readjust-etc...

our speedometer, being digital with 3 digits, goes to 999. Technically 888 is 'maxing' the digital speedometer, since every 'leg' of the digital display is filled in at that point. There is a test you can do to light up every light, fill in every digit, etc...

Just like the max showed on an analog speedometer has very little to do with the actual maximum speed of other cars, the max possible for ours is also meaningless.

That article is a good example of why cars should go to digital speedos, rather than analog. It's more accurate (vs guessing where you are at between two numbers, the sender can still be off the same amount) and doesn't have the "marking pressure" claimed of urging people to drive faster. It also looks better and can be read faster by anyone that has grown up with technology.

question: I've yet to see a concluded wrap up of this question of mine.

Why are all these turbo RX8's making such low power? 200-300 hp.
Almost every boosted RX7 I've seen is around 450HP range & at that range with EEzz

whats the difference between boosting a rx7 13b and a rx8 13b?

I dont see why all these rx8's are making such low power outputs once boosted.

mostly exhaust port location. the renny ex ports are in the irons not the housings

200.mph is correct, it's almost entirely due to the exhaust ports.

From my Newbie's Guide to modding: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discuss...rx-8-a-233937/
Guideline: The relative "high power" limitations to the Renesis are largely due to the exhaust ports. They can not be increased in size by much since they are run through the side plates, between the oil and coolant passages, and the studs, etc... Prior RX-7s had the entire end of the rotor housing to work with for exhaust dumping. Adding exhaust ports to the housing is viable, though imperfect and makes the engine no longer a Renesis, rendering this point moot. Any high power goals will have to take this fact into account with some serious consideration. There are some methods of increased exhaust porting, though none known have performed flawlessly, usually introducing different issues that have to be addressed. There are also other points that produce capping effects on power, but the exhaust port size is the the one that people run into first and is the hardest to get around.

How exactly does redlining the engine blow out excess carbon?

Friction. More rpm means faster spinning rotors meaning higher heat burning up the carbon buildup.

High load threw the RPM range opens SSV, VDI and APV valves that are normal closed and can create carbon build up on them preventing them to open in the future.

i want to try to auto x so badly BUT i get nervous because everytime i see an event i cant make out the track... i just see a bunch of cones like im ******* dyslectic. Is there a place that offers lessons before i take the plunge and go competing? I dont want to imbarass myself in front of a crowd lol. Its funny i would feel alot more comfortable road racing/track my car then auto x

Autox is the lesson. You only have to look at certain cones like the ones marking a corner on the inside of the turn. The outside ones usually don't matter. Of an entire course maybe 30% of the cones actually matter. Doing events will get you practiced in seeing which cones are the important ones.

spark plug wires

I'm thinking about changing my plugs and wires and was wondering which wires I should get...Which wires are better 10mm or 8mm? The racing beast wires are 8mm and I was these other brand 10mm wires but since I dont know too much about this, is thicker better I have the factory coils and all that please help me out guys

Note: that in the future I may upgrade the coils so I want to get good wires now and not worry about it later

Um, not quite. It's high VE that you want in the engine, lots of air, lots of fuel, lots of heat. Helps with stripping the carbon off and burning it or blowing it out. If it was just friction then idling would do it. If it was just opening the valves then it's missing the key problem points of the carbon on the seals.

Generally, thicker is "better". That word in quotes is subjective though. 8mm is plenty sufficient. 10mm should last a bit longer, due to the properties of how high voltage electrical current starts breaking down the wires it passes through. Don't buy for a future coil upgrade though. All of the upgrade paths will use different plug boots on the coil side, so you won't be able to reuse these anyway.

Did the grinding noise go away after you started it? or did it continue to grind?
