I'm trying to figure out what thread type standard lug nuts are. I bought 12x1.25 lug nuts from NRG but they have a different thread type.

The first part of the question is that no, it's not wrong at all. It is actually fairly common. This is a car of passion, and passion can come in just about any form.

From the new owner's thread:

If you are hearing that loud and clear, and do not place much value in things like "joy", then this isn't the car for you. Find something else. We have no interest in owners that hate the car because they purchased it with their eyes shut and then got punched in the face for wandering around the rotary world without paying attention. The RX-8 has issues, yes. But so do plenty of other cars out there. Cars that people pursue passionately despite constant problems. Pretty much the entire British sports car and roadster categories fall under this. Alpha Romeos. It doesn't take much looking to find that just about any car of passion has both sides of the passion coin.

You will become emotional about this car unless you ignore it and move elsewhere. It will happen.

And that's really all the point. We love this car. It's an emotion to us. Inherently not logical or reasonable. The people that dislike the 8 do so passionately as well. Everyone likes to come up with logical reasons to like or dislike it, but in the end it's all about how the car you drive makes you feel. If the only way it impacts you is not feeling wallet-raped every month, then you are going to bias toward cost efficient cars. For some ex-owners that hate it, the feeling is one of devastation, anger, or even betrayal. Largely, those owners bought it and either tried to make it something it's not, or bought it without any idea of what they were getting into.

For most of us, the only feeling we pursue is that what plasters that grin to our face. And everyone gets it differently.

The depreciation question is really tied to that. A car's depreciation is largely based on how desired the car is, and the vast majority of the population wouldn't even consider getting a car like this, either through it actually not being for them, through misunderstanding, misinformation, etc... So it just doesn't hold value well for the public in general. Vs cars that are 'desired' commuter cars, like the 2011 Mazda2, hold value remarkably well. (did some looking last week and found that 10,000-15,000 mile Mazda2s are generally listed at only about $1k depreciation vs brand new 2012 at a dealer)

Typically how long does it take for the coolant to go down?

Usually im driving down the highway and the coolant light goes on(usually its in 5th gear at 6krpm) (a few days ago it was 5th gear at 4krpm), i lift off throttle and it goes away. The next day i check the coolant before i drive it and its low, so i fill it back up.

This happens maybe once a month. Is the coolant supposed to go down this fast? :S

I went to jiffy lube (haha yeah I know) to get a coolant fill up because I had the coolant light. They topped off antifreeze, oil etc....they said at 60k miles I am due for a "radiator flush". Is the radiator flush a scam? I stumbled upon that site "the honest mechanic" and he seemed to think it was. He said there is really no benefit as modern radiators are so small, dirt can't really get in there, and if it does, it usually settles on the bottom, making it difficult to flush out.

so my ?: Do the 99 dollar radiator flush at a dealer? or is it a non-essential service?

Anything Jiffy-lube tries to sell you is a scam... you can flush your coolant yourself for about 30 bucks if you really want too,I did mine at 92k really easy, check out the DIY section.

Also, the light coming could be a sign that you level sensor is going out (very common thing, search around for it) You can replace it yourself for about 100-120. Or just unplug the sensor and monitor to coolant level yourself. If your coolant was actually low, you should keep an eye out for leaks.

There are a variety of ways that coolant can leave the system. Worst case is a coolant seal failure in the engine. Somewhat better is a coolant leak from a line. Then it can come out through the overflow, and it can do that for a variety of reasons as I am experiencing now. For example, my current issue is that anything over 135F coolant temp, it just drops steadily out of the coolant overflow, and will do this even when the level when the system is cool is quite far down the coolant bottle.

It's got to be a blockage somewhere and coming out under pressure, but haven't been able to locate it.

^ You mean anything over 135 it blows out via cap?? Have you checked to see if you have a kink in the throttle body coolant lines?

JP Check Engine Lite

Hi dudes!

Well, I hope you can shed some light here. Yesterday in the morning my Check Engine Lite came up. My navigator (wifey) checked the manual while I was driving and according to it, 4 issues could be the reason:

- empty fuel tank (not the reason)
- loose fuel-filler cap (double-checked as soon as we arrived home)
- electrical problem
- emission control problem

Today I turned on the babe and the light is still there. In the manual it's written it can disappear by itself (I dunno how but of course I was hoping for it to happen...).

I checked at MAZDA my starter and battery 3.5 months ago (Spring) so I don't thinks it's electrical. I'm narrowing it to the last item. Is there a way to check this without going to MAZDA?

Take it to a PepBoys or something like it. Most places like this will get the Check Engine light code for FREE. (please don't pay to have this done)

Write down the code and then search it on google for it's meaning. It should help point you in the right direction. If you still need help ask away

Another option is to pick up an OBDII reader. That will give you the error code to look up.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as a dumb question or not, but here goes.

I'm interested in getting the HKS hi power single and I was wondering if there was a way to get rid of the exit hole on the right side. If some company has made a piece to replace that part of the stock bumper or if most people just buy some mesh, paint it black, and block off that hole?

Not at the moment unless you get a Mazdaspeed rear bumper. RaceRoots has said they where working on one but no one knows if/when it will be released.

Alright, I've got a dumb question for you all.

What is a resonated midpipe supposed to sound like? This is the first time I have installed an aftermarket midpipe.

I installed a BHR midpipe (No Cat., No second O2 bung) not too long ago and was wondering if this sound is normal. I still have the factory catback installed.

The sound you hear while the engine winds down is coming from the resonator. I just want to make sure I don't have any other issues before proceeding with other mods.

Some more info on my problem (might not be a problem). I re-installed the factory midpipe and the sound is suppressed - although it is still there. The resonator in the BHR midpipe makes the sound much more noticeable on wind down - resonates the sound if you will...

Still unsure if that noise is normal...

I thought it sounded.... stock? So it smells bad and makes no noise?

You will be able to mount a louder cat back system with the resonator you have.

I'm running a Davesport cat and a RB REV 8 and I like the sound...

Funny story...

After WCS and I installed my mid pipe we started the car and did a standard leak check.

Well we could easily hear a leak so under the car I slide... feel a massive leak... from the O2 sensor... cuz the O2 sensor was lying on the floor....

Ya I still have the factory catback installed. I am looking into a new catback but I would like to hear some of them in person before deciding.

All gaskets were replaced with brand new ones provided by BHR. I was unable to find any leaks with a heater hose.

EDIT: and yes the O2 sensor was put back in

Coolant light is ALWAYS on now. Searched for this topic and obviously tons of info. I think im going with the unplug sensor and keep an eye on the coolant level route. most threads dont say exactly which plug to unplug for the sensor.

Is it the grey little plug behind the first one ?? I just unplug it right ?

Mine is always on as well. I just check it every time I check oil, or periodically if I'm on a long drive. It's an easy fix but I've been working on other things and planned on changing the reservoir during my next coolant flush anyway.
