Hey man .. no problems
So the first time I looked at the picture I didn't notice the tube to the left, just the one beside the air filter.
However after you mentioned there being one on the left and one on the right, I went out and checked again ... and I still believe the one on the left is for the battery (the hard to see in the pic) and the one on the right is for the ECU

Here are some pictures

1. So in the first pic you can see only the ECU fresh air tube...

Attachment 169567

2. This picture is taken from the back notice the tube bends immediately towards the ECU

Attachment 169568

3. This picture is taken from the top down (above the ECU). Notice the tube bend up in to the fresh air inlet for the ECU. The fresh return is just to the left.

Attachment 169569

4. This picture is me trying to hold in place the battery tray and the fresh air tube for the battery.

Attachment 169570

5. In this last picture I'm still trying to hold everything in place as it would look once put back together. Notice the battery fresh air tube is on the left, assuming I remember correctly how this all goes back together lol

Attachment 169571

1: I would guess that your grounding for the lights isn't ideal, and whereever you have it grounded to might be generating interference with the speakers. Not positive about that, just a guess

2: Did you re-wire the fogs? To my knowledge the fogs turn off with the high beams on. Regarding the shield though, without having seen your particular fogs (since OEM is not HID), I would guess that removing the shields wouldn't change light output. All light generated from within a light fixture gets out already, just where it is direct changes. Probably the fogs are somewhat directed or defused, and removing the shield will change that farther in one direction or another. I wouldn't mess with it.

3: Motor mount, or mounts, are failing. Not a critical item, just means more vibration from the engine getting to the chassis. Typically at low rpm, and the faintly increased load on the engine with the electrics on changes the vibration frequency typically. Which mount and how it's failing makes this change from car to car in what you actually feel, but that is all this is.

It's not a freash air tube . It's a drain for acidic water that may sill out of the battery .

New to me 04, Engine cover missing... vital?

Hey all, I'm a new owner of an '04, in good shape generally, but a few projects in mind, and trying to make a priority list and budget. It's missing the engine cover, and I know the rotary makes big heat. Should replacing that be at the top of my list of things to do? I certainly don't want to blister the hood or hurt anything under it... I DID try to search this, but didn't find anything but for sale posts.
Impressed with the site btw, seems to be a great resource.

No, the cover is not necessary. Lots of people run without one without issue.

From my understanding the shield directs the flow of the light so it's more of a beam to the front of the car. Uncapped it looks brighter but the light will scatter everywhere, like stop light height status. I took the shield out on mine because 1: it looks better in my opinion and I honestly like the bling effect and 2: this HIDs get hot inside that cap. I had them on to test them for maybe 2 mins and then decided to take the cap off and man that thing was warm. The thought of that much heat being around the bulb since it's already a snug fit was too much for me to handle, especially since I like using my fogs as runners around dusk.

I have one for those that sell things. How do you ship via greyhound? This has always made me wonder ever since I've heard people doing it here

You are welcome good sir ....

However I would like to hear from the dude that originally posted the question.
Apparently he doesn't give a crap about our discussion.

OH This isn't a flame ... but if you post a question and some peeps answer ... at least say thanks ... or something.

Brettus would it be worthy to update the first post with something like ... "if you post a question and it get's a response you should at least acknowledge the response"?

In the thread, click the 'thread tools' box, then 'search this thread'. Though it uses the same terrible search algorithms as the main site search.

Google is better, though it's harder to get to pinpoint a thread, since you can't do it thread specific, only site specific.

RX-8 Club has tons of information on hand. And I mean tons. Literally. Add up the weight of everyone's brain, and it will be several tons. Sorry, I know that was bad.

Collectively, we know more than any one dealership, tech, repair shop, or spec manual. However, as usual, the information doesn't all sit in one place, it doesn't sit in one head, and we have our idiots, our morons, our ********, our kids, our jerks, and our literary incompetents. Just like any forum. Fortunately, we have relatively fewer of those than most other car communities out there. But they still exist.

We also have a Search button, and a Search function for the board, but it isn't very good. It removes words that it sees as common or two short, but are a critical part of the search. It doesn't allow for search by relevancy, as in real relevancy. You mostly have to do alot of hunting and pecking in the search results to come up with what you might be looking for.

Add the two above issues together, and you can easily take all day to find only bad information.

But I have good news! You can improve your results and search speed by up to 15% by switching to Google!

As in Google.com.

Go to Google.com, and in the search box, type: site:rx8club.com
Then a space.
Then start typing what you are looking for.

Like this:
RX8Club.com search via Google

Your Google search results will be ONLY from this forum, and it will use all the power and intelligence of the best search engine in the world.

I still use that function nearly every day between RX8Club.com, Miata.net, and Mazdas247.com. So if you have a question that you think is common, give that search method a try, sit back with your beverage of choice and start reading

If you add in quote "dumb question thread" to your search criteria, you should have results in this thread be biased towards the top.

I never use the rx8club search function ... always the google ...

what would be the exact search string

site:rx8club.com "dumb question thread" How clean maf
??? as an example ???

Edit -- Just tried it ... worked very nicely

Maybe you should add this specific search function to your thread?

Yeah, not a bad idea. I don't expect newbies will be using it much, but can't hurt.

Well .... No would be my answer .. it is not normal.

However it's really to hard to say what is causing the sound.
Any chance you can get a sound clip for us?

Could be the motor mounts?
Is it a standard or automatic? Gear shifter in the standard will really vibrate in a standard if the mounts are gone.

Any modifications?
Could be a loose exhaust?

I just switched back to summer tires a few days ago. I rotated them so i put the front ones on the rears. But the rears ones i put them in the front but i switched positions. I was wondering if stock tires are directional tires or not. I tried checking but it doesnt say the direction the tire should turn on the tire. It does say "radial" . Im considered i put my fronts backwards. I checked the thread patterns on all 4 tires and they seem to be the same. Can anyone confirm. Tires are stock bridgestone potenzas.
