Dumb Question Thread - no flaming or sarcasm allowed
Hi, Really stupid question to follow:
Are the coils in the rx8 individual? can they fail individually? can they fail altogether at the same time? can they fail without triggering the engine management light or under performance?

brilliant lads, thanku for your answers! now for another couple of questions! can worn out spark plugs cause damage to the coils? and can a catalytic converterif damaged potentially go on to travel another 8000 miles or so if it was only minor damage?
stupid but important questions!

Plugs can kill coils. If your CAT is damaged or clogged at all i would say either remove it and replace with a mid pipe or gut it. Driving around with a messed up CAT is a quick way to kill your car.
All depends on the damage done to the cat, and what is considered minor.
Sure, it could go for another 8K miles, but that doesn't mean it won't mess up other parts of the car. If you THINK the cat isn't working properly, get rid of it ASAP so you don't mess up your engine. I would rather waste $200-300 on a new cat than $2000-$3000 on a new engine.

Worn out plugs can cause the coils to work harder...but since they fail relatively easily I'm not so sure I would blame anything on that
If your car was miss-firing and dumping a lot of fuel into the CAT it can fail relatively quickly.

Its too late, my car has already been destroyed by the cat! the whole rear rotor, casing seals, etc are destroyed, the fron and rear bearing disintergrated, the list is endless! lol. the reason why I asked the last few questions is I never got a warning light and just fishing for reasons why my lovely car died!!
??? Is our suspention ajustable or anything ... My car is sagging in the back really bad ... The back pasaneger side of the car is NOTICABLY lower than the rest of the car ... When I went under to look I really couldn't c anything that was broken ... Or noticeably loose ... But the frame is literally like 2 inches lower in that corner than the rest of the car?? Is this something I should b worryed about ??? I only have half a tank of gas and nothing heavy is in the trunk literally a 5 qt. Bottle of oil and a few bottles of water so I don't think it's weight ?? Any thoughts on what it could b ??
Most definitely broken suspension. Once you get the part(s) replaced you'll see it pop right back up.
GFs cougar had **** poor struts. Bought new strut kits for the rear and literally raised the rear end 1-2 inches.

I'm sure there's a thread in the DIY section that can walk you through it, & most parts stores will loan the tools you will need with a deposit.
If you don't feel comfortable you can always find a shop, or take it to an auto tech class at a high school.

Hey guys, so I was thinking about maybe replacing my engine down the road, reason being the chassis of this car is amazing, but honestly the low gas mileage, mediocre power, and generally short length of life made me think that a different engine might be better. I was doing some browsing and came upon this. Does this seem like a reasonable idea? I'm afraid that it might horribly upset the balance of the car, but honestly I don't know much about this. Also, does anyone have any suggestions for what engines might be better options for the rx8? I didn't really want to drop a 6.0l v8 into my car, Id much rather it be on the small side, this is just one of the first things I came upon

If you put ANY engine in there, it's going to upset the balance and feel of the car. This car has a perfect 50:50 weight distribution. Although if you really want to do it, check out the frankenstein section, they'll be more than happy to help you.
wow... I realize that my spelling and grammer most times aren't the best, but wow. Anyway For the Mechanically inclined yes it's simple. For someone with almost no tools or experience i would say don't do it.
Agreed. If anything have a buddy or family come over with proper tools and the two of you work together. Better to be safe than sorry.
Thanks guys ... I've decided to get help from a friend of mine that does suspension work ... Oh and I've done a little research for somesort of "performance clutch/ flywheel" have found that the oem clutch is more than adequate for a NA 8... But... I wasn't able to find anything on a new lighter flywheel ... Are there any compatable performance flywheels for our oem clutch ?? :/
Probably the wrong place for this but no flaming and such so I'm gonna go for it. Do you think a Copper Shinka would look good with 07-12 GT500 wheels? I love the chrome ones that came with it but they're slowly becoming less chrome and more ugly dark gray primer stuff. Here's a link to the wheels. They aren't my first choice but they're cheap.
