Ok, so after reading all 27 pages of this thread... :P

I found yesterday that I am leaking oil from somewhere. At first I thought it was from spilled oil while changing it but after it showed up on a friends garage I know it's a leak. I've also been noticing I need to add oil more often but I thought it was just my MOP got increased with the MM ap map or something. Also, after reading this thread I'm wondering if it's a problem that when I come to a stop after aggressive driving that my engine boggs down and almost dies. I'll try to figure out where the oil is leaking from at least.


I've never had a car under warranty and I've never had anything done at a dealership. My rx8 has had 2 or three owners before me. I bought my car last summer and have been doing mainenance myself because I believed my warranty to be expired.

Do I just drive in to the dealership and as for them to look at my car? I feel like I'd be walking into a trap and they'd void me for my CAI or doing maintenance myself or something. I realize that some dealerships are good and some bad.

What do you guys think? Thanks.

i have a k&n typhoon intake and they didnt say anything about it when they replaced my engine. So i dont think thats a problem. If you can verify that the oil is leaking from the engine i would take it to them and ask them if that is covered under the warranty. If anything they will prob ask you for the oil change receipts, let them know you have been changing the oil yourself.

The bumper-to-bumper warranty was lowered from 4/50,000 to 3/36,000 for all Mazdas, and I believe that was in effect for the 2008 model year (maybe sooner?). My 05 Mazda3 had 4/50,000, but newer ones don't, and my 09 RX-8 doesn't.

The Magnusson Moss act requires that dealers need to prove that any modifications you've done to your car directly cause the failures you bring the car in for. They can't say that a cold air intake caused your brakes to fail. And they would have to prove that it caused the engine to have problems. They may tell you that it is causing your poor idle as it can affect your MAF. But it should not cause an oil leak. Bring it in and see what they say.

I would check your regional forum for recommendations on dealers in your area.

Ultimately you want your dealer to find out what's really wrong with the car and what needs to be done to fix it. not fight with you about mods and warranty.

this is gonna be my third motor first on went at 58k this one at 74k so how good is this warranty if the motors are gonna still be blowing ??

What year?

Manual or automatic?

Any other info would be appreciated by all.

So far, automatics with build dates of 04 or early 05 have had highest frequency motor failure rate, in hot climates, IIRC.

I'd say the warranty is pretty damn good if you've gotten three motors for nada out of it.

the warranty is good for now but what happens when i get 100,001 miles on my car body ? from what ive seen the motor problem hasnt been fixed this new motor bs is just a temp fix till the new motors blow. im drivin a 04 6 speed gt

after the warranty is gone it's not such a stretch to buy a new car with a better motor I would say....also my new motor is not a rebuild but an actual verified 'new motor' direct from the factory in Japan, I sure hope that helps it's longevity vs. a revbuilt in the USA motor but dunno...we'll see....

Hmmm.... surely there must be some common ground that everyone who has blown motors shares? The way its driven? The oil thats used? Modifications? Preventative Maintenance? Ignoring obvious problems? I dunno... Seems strange that some people have the same problems over and over again.. Not making accusations or pointing fingers but if I heard quacking I would look for a duck.

Nothing against you but uh, the norm here for issues is flooding, ignition, cold starts, blah blah list goes on contrast to blown engines or engine replacements which are in minority from what I've read. That being said, what the hell is in your car that is creating 2 blown engines, that's a bit excessive. It's time to think outside the box that it may not be the brand new engines they're putting in your car but perhaps whatever aftermarket set up you have along with it? I'd be skeptical of the electrical harness since I doubt it's the engine causing the problem. Wonder if it's giving altered timing to what it should be and/or giving too lean of a mixture.

If you have none then well, you got the worst luck and stay the F away from me, I don't want it!

There are three known issues that have caused engine failures at this point. There could be others yet to be discovered but this is what I've heard so far.
1) Water seals leaking due to incorrect assembly.
2)Side seals failing due to clashing with the intake ports sharp edge and wearing out
3)Apex seals wearing due to insufficient lubrication

#1 is somewhat luck of the draw and I don't hear much about this so it may be small but it's been seen.

#2 really requires a revision of the port geometry or side seal material/design. I don't know the specifics on this but if I have to get my motor rebuilt outside warranty I'll definitely be looking to have the port edges rounded or chamfered and the side seal material upgraded.

#3 premix is the only practical solution. I've heard 2 ideas for ultimately solving this problem: redesigned housing where there are oil flow ports at multiple points around the circumference of the housing or an oil injector similar to a fuel injector. The first solution would make sure there is more even coverage around the entire 360 of the rotor. The second would allow essentially a precision way of injecting oil pre-mix style.

Or we could go cermet coated housings with ceramic seals and skip oil altogether...

i took all mods off with my second motor. the listed **** is what i had but wit the first. i use royal purple 5-30 oil an change it every 3,000. only thing i can say is my motor got very hot before it blew both times. the temp gauge never went up but i noticed alot of heat when i was done driving. this is def connected to the problem idk if there is fault in the cooling system or what, but from what i was told the motor problems is the seals leaking and coolant gets in there so if the coolent is getting heated enough maybe this is the problem

maybe it has somethin to do with the core engine parts bein changed only. maybe theres a defect thats not being changed that is causein the problems , that could be a thought the same motors are blowing because the problem isnt being addressed right, or maybe im retarded an dont kno how to drive

When does this warrenty take place ? when are they going to enforce it ? Bc i have a buddie who plays football with me who has a 04 and he said all 04's and 05's and some 06's have been recalled ? im confused ????!!!???

they issued the warrenty or the Recall?? Bc i have a 05 RX8 Sunlight silver !! and as of late my clutch when i press to shift Squeaks which never used to happen and it just dont run like my 8 used to !

there was a recall for the newest flash, msp16 i believe it was...like a couple months later mazda released the 8yr/100k miles engine core warranty

the clutch pedal i believe is covered under the b2b warranty but i could be wrong, might just be wear and tear...

your 8 might be acting different due to maintenance

idk bro bc my buddie who has an 8 which is an 04 his had 66K on it and then he seen that recall and he got his replaced and my is acting up just like his was ! and idk some days it run perfect and some days not so great ! and i have 52k on my engine and if theres something wrong then i want me another engine lol

i HIGHLY recommend you change em out...

1. look on the vendor section fo the from for some GREAT deals...the stealership WILL rip you off by chargin you like 200$ for plugs, when you can get all 4 for around 80$...same thing with coils all four should be somewhere around 130$

2. do em yourself, WAY simple...theres a DIY section here on the forum

3. PLEASE read all the info you can on this car, you are young and have much to learn, this isnt a HONDA

I took my 04 into the dealer with complaints of a small oil leak, and occasional hard starting. Mazda's warranty bullitin claims "white glove" and top hat treatment for these issues. I went in expecting the "cutoff shorts and tanktop" treatment, figuring they would just run some bogus test and send me on my way. Boy was I wrong. Mazda in Vancouver, WA is installing a new motor under warranty! The car has 54,000 miles.
