It is possible that the 8 year/ 100K warranty was voided on your VIN for some reason of abuse by the former owner. The only way to find out is to contact MAZDA North America or ask a dealer to look it up for you, however, the dealers can often be unreliable. I would contact Mazda NA via the net or a 1 (800) number. I haven't had to talk to them in years so I have no idea what their current contact info is.

No, you aren't "supposed" to change the oil at 3K. Read your owner's manual. There are two possible recommended schedules to follow (at least for my 04), published my Mazda.

You can do it more frequently than what the owner's manual specifies, but that's not required by Mazda. RTFM.

I'm just say'n, man.

IDK, 7500 miles on dino is asking for trouble. For your engines health, please change it more often. After 3k the oil comes out black, I wouldn't want to see 5w20 after 7500 miles

Yes in the owners manual it states to change your oil either at 5k or 7.5k miles depending on your driving conditions. A few years ago mazda sent me a letter stating to change your oil every 3,750 miles. I change mine every 3k. I only had it changed every 5k is because mazda did it for free the first 50k.

My engine is being replaced my Mazda. The yare telling me it is going to cost about $550 for nuts, bolts, gaskets, fluids, etc. Is this true? How much has everyone else paid? I have a 2004 AT with 52,926 miles. I'm also getting a new CAT.

What about the "necessary" nuts, bolts and gaskets for the new engine? I mean, wouldn't the nuts and bolts be ok to reuse?

That sounds like crap. They should be footing the bill to replace the motor and whatever needs to be replaced to make it run correctly. What are they going to do, send you out without coolant and oil??

You probably argue as much as you want with them but they will still charge you for the extra parts. You have remember its a business and they arent making that much money installing the new engine so they are trying to get anything they can from you.

They are being paid by Mazda for the warranty work at book rate so they are making plenty on the swap and items that should be replaced or moved from the old engine to the new one are included.

When they swapped my engine the only things they charged me for were things that I wanted them to do while the engine was out.

Even MazdaUSA is giving me the run around..... argh.

Update: MazdaUSA is saying that I will need to pay for the nuts and bolts to physically put the engine in my car and for the gaskets and misc other parts.

Does anyone have experience with a similar issue or have a recommendation on whom I should speak to at MazdaUSA? The guy that I was talking to knew about the RX8 forums, knew that others did not pay anything for a replacement, but still incisted that it was up to the dealership and/or district service manager on what I needed to pay for. How does that make any sense? Once they approve my engine replacement, which there is no reason not to since the tech said I had great service records, I think I may have to get the attorny generals office involved. This is going to suck. Although, worst case scenario, I pay the $550 and I get a new engine and new cat under warranty. Not bad, but why pay if you dont have to.

Also, now the dealer is saying that since the CAT was red hot, the o2 sensors might be ceased on. He said if he cant ge tthem off, I will need to buy new ones. If the engine fails, pissing oil into the cat causing the cat to fail and heat up, directly causing the o2 sensors to cease on the cat, I shouldn't have to pay for them, right? The tech also sayed he would give them to me at cost. I love the BS lol.

I was just reading over the actual document for the warranty plan that you must have record of all maintenance and scheduled maintenance...So if we dont have this from all of the years then the extended warranty is pretty much useless?

Update: There are two different SSP's covering the Engine. There is SSP 67 and SSP 77. Under SSP 67, your engine is covered 100% free of charge under a 5yr warranty. SSP 77, only the Engine is covered for 8yrs/100k miles. Here is a link to SSP 67 http://www.coremazda.com/tsb/rx8/pow...-extension.pdf

ok, that I could probably do. My last question is I didn't buy this car with an existing mazda warranty back in november of 2008 so I dont have a warranty to extend, does that matter not being the original owner of the vehicle?

The Mazda SSP 67 and SSP 77 warranties(Powertrain/Engine Warranties) are tranferable and you do not need to do anything. All you will need are your maint records.

What kind of issues are you having that makes you think its the engine?
