I found the DVD in the garage, but couldn't find the warranty package. The DVD was just a tutorial about the engine, tire pressure monitoring system ect. It had an email address www.MazdaUSA.com/RX8 in the video, and an address on the box:
Mazda North American Operations
1444 Macgraw Ave.
Irvine CA 92714-5570
I will continue to look for that warranty package. I would also try contacting a Mazda dealer, either the one the owner uses or one that is closest to you. You may have to explian your situation and have the VIN available. I hope this helps.

Update!

Ok folks!

Less than 1000 miles after getting my car back from the new motor install it has been flat bedded back to the dealership! Wahoo!

The oil light came on 2 days after getting the car back. I checked the work order and they put enough oil in it, but when I checked it after the light came on it was definitely low. Frickin weird.... Put oil in it and it made it happy.

So the check engine light came on at about 850 miles after being returned to me...

It felt a little sluggish but otherwise was fine. Pulled the code at AutoZone and it was the generic PO420 "Catalyst not performing" code. So it could be a the cat or just a sensor, but I figured the cat since they tried to get it replaced with the engine this last time but couldn't pull the failure code.

Driving to work Friday I called the dealership to make an appointment for it this Thursday. Five minutes after I hung up the phone the car starts mis firing on the highway, CEL Flashing AND the oil light came on AGAIN.

I call the dealership and they say get it down here soon.

Out of curiousity I check the oil again. Yep definitely on the low line again but now there is a MILKY substance on the end of the stick! I checked the oil several more times throughout the day and the spunk on my oil stick was still there.

Called em back and told them about this... they said Get it towed down here.

So they call me last night and they are replacing the other two coil packs and the cat... No word on the spunky oil yet though....

Summary of Warranty work so far...

2 - Catalytic Converters
1 - New Battery
1 - New Starter
2 - Center Console Lids
1 - Driver Seat Trim
2 - Sets of Plugs
1 - Set of Plug Wires
1 - New Engine Package (see previous posts for dete's)
2 - New coil packs??? (Dealership trying to get Mazda to pay for these two)
1 - Set of brake pads
1 - All ECU flashes...

Grand Total: Somewhere between $7 and $8k....

Question: Why don't they just take the car back and give me credit for this one towards an 09'????

This year is the lowest mileage year for me. With gas prices combined with down time for repairs I only put 10K on it this year. Half what I usually do.

Milky substance on the oil dipstick isn't an issue. It's well known in the Winter months for those of you up North. Do a search on "foam dipstick" or something like that and you will see that it's a non issue.........there are about 30 threads started each and every Winter on this. Congrats......you are the first this season(I think).

Or....go read this..............http://www.finishlineperformance.com...50-06-1664.pdf

The oil apparently dis-appearing that fast is a huge issue! Ugh! What's up with that? How fast are you loosing it again?

They are not going to buy your car back at almost 70,000 miles, they are going to try to fix it. If you were 'new' sub 15-20k miles and having these kinds of issues you might have a case. I believe lemon law's are only applicable within the first year of ownership of the car off the lot.

Unless, of course, it's because he blew a coolant seal.

can't tell from anything over the internet but with throwing misfire codes and lagging power etc etc it's a possibility.

Or it could just be the cold weather issue. It is about that time for those threads to start.

OK, I think I'm just going to keep asking this until someone can completely confirm or deny, but based on the press release posted earlier in the thread, I'm pretty sure that the 8yr/100K warranty also applies to 2009 models...

YES! It applies to ALL rx-8's. This was for new models and what was special about it, that most manufacturers do not include was that it was made retroactive to previously sold, all model year, cars.

Hey all,

No coolant leak... 2 more coils and another $2000 cat. LOL

Oh well. With all the work done, it runs like it was brand new off the lot.

I wasn't seriously saying they should buy it back... Just havin fun pokin at the amount of money they have invested in this one car....

I still love it and will continue to drive the hell out of it. 5 years old and the black paint is showing a fair amount of scratches and dings so its time for a face lift.

One thing that is still curious is that the dealer searched high and low for an oil leak for the disappearing oil. All machinery is dry as a bone under there.

We are speculating that the latest flash for lubricating the engine is using much more oil than expected, more along the lines of the FD...

They haven't seen anything on the bulletins yet.

buying a used RX8

I'm looking to purchase an RX8 in the near future. No dealer that I have talked to has been able to validate this warrantee extention.

Has anyone seen something in writing?

Jake

Well, what was supposed to be a routine oil change has turned out to be more problems on my replaced engine.

I got a new engine under warranty a year and a half ago and its decided to act up. During my oil change, the mechanic tells me I need a new battery which is ridiculous since I bought one 14 months ago. I took the car back to where I bought the battery. They tell me the alternator looks fine and the battery is showing that it needs to be replaced so they replace it with a new one. Then they come back to tell me that every time they start the car, the car isn't getting enough RPMs and dies. I did recently notice that, when stopped at stoplights, the car's power feels low/weak RPM but I haven't had it die (it did die several times on my old engine). I don't think it was anything the mechanics did wrong since they were just replacing the battery. One of the mechanics used to work at Mazda and he thinks its an engine seal leak. I'm also now getting a weird squealing noise when I'm stopped at stop signs. <sigh> Actually, now that I think about it, a lot of the low power feel when idle is exactly what the car felt like before it would die and I had to get the new engine. I hope this doesn't mean I need ANOTHER new engine!

So now I plan to drop the car off first thing in the morning to the dealer and hope (and expect) that this new set of problems is covered under the new 100k warranty. This car is a pain in the ***! I love it but still. A year and a half old engine having problems again is not fun.

Been reading this forum ever since I got my '04 back in '05. I remember buying some stainless steel strakes off someone here from europe?? Long time ago lol. Anyway, i've been having all the problems mentioned in this thread (Rough idle, Stalling, Flooding). The other day it seemed like it flooded again. I had a friend look at it, and he told me there's no compression in the engine. Towed it to Dealer today and hopefully the engines blown so I get get the new one and get rid of it. Time to move on it seems...

damn strakes! I hate it when they cause misfires, excessive oil consumption, and low compression...

Sorry if this has been answered, I searched with no luck. My rx8 is for sale and I have someone asking about the warranty. Question is, does the 8 year / 100k mile extension transfer also or just the 4 year / 50k miles?

Thanks MAZDA. This gives me peace of mind. Too bad my RX8 will crap-out at 100,000.1 miles (I hope not).

Not sure what you mean by that. What exactly is wrong with +/- needs to be done to your car?
