Here is the information, at least as of now, that I have on track day.
Saturdays are possible, but less so as we approach Spring and Summer. Weekdays are still the best bet when it comes to having some freedom on the when...
Cost will be about $200/person. That, of course, will differ depending on the number of people that attends a track day. It is however, I think, a worst case cost.
At that cost it will be for the entire day, not just a few hours, and will include a number of instructors...perhaps as many as five. With that number there won't be so much waiting for an available instructor. The number of cars on the track will be carefully controlled so there won't be a time when there are too many on the track.
The earliest time frame we are looking at right now is late March. I need to know how many might want to participate so I can further discussions on an available day. First try will be for a Saturday (Sundays are out of the question unless you want to join in with lots of others on the track and even then time on the track will be very limited...lots going on at the track on Sundays.)
A weekday might limit available instructors, but I will try and work out a day that will ensure the largest number of instructors.
So, let me hear back if you will want to participate.

For those of you who may not really know what I mean by 'track day' let me give you a little insight on what that means. Track Day is held at the Sandia Motor Speedway, West of Albuquerque. http://www.sandiamotorsports.com/
What we are trying to do is to get the track, with driving instructors, for a FULL day (not just an hour or two) so that you can drive your car, the RX8, on the road course to improve your driving skills, or at least understand what your skill level is. You do NOT race against other cars. The instructors will bring a race car, a Miata, and you will be able to get a little time in that car to understand the track's layout and how best to approach a safe run around the track. After that you take the 8 on the track for as long as your gas and/or tires (or your nerves) last.
It is not unusual for the track to host track days, but generally when they do there are lots of people there with many different kinds of cars which can be a bit overpowering if you want to drive the track without having to worry about 'the other guy'. So if we can arrange an RX8 track day there should be less pressure, confusion and stress, especially if this will be your first time on the track.
There isn't a great deal of prep work for a track day. Helmet, long sleeve shirts/pants, empty the car of 'stuff' that you don't want or need flying around the interior or trunk, a full tank of gas, and plenty of oil in the engine. As we get closer to a possible track day...we can talk more about what to expect and bring.
Let's get together as many folks as we can for this...I have done track day twice with the 8 and both times I had blast and learned alot...about the car and myself.
The instructors have been great...they do this often so they have plenty of experience and wisdom to pass on to us all.

Kewl you already know I AM IN!!! All I need is a day and time. As for the helmet well the wife took care of that for me at Xmas

This was my present
! I dont know if you had noticed Ronnies post earlier about him and some of his buds joining us. I kind of like the idea about and all 8 day myself, but I also like the idea of less $$$$. So either way it is ok with me. By the way Kewl thanks for going through all the efforts that you have so far with getting this event going you are the man!

Just going back over the replies as to who was interested in the track day we are talking about 7 thought that I would comprise a list of names of all that have said they were interested
1. Chakara
2. stinger
3. Kewl
4. slayerchaos
5. Aug03-rx8
6. en fuego
Now these people have yet to officialy say either way if they are or are not interested
1. MadDog
2. NMOcho
3. Ace1810
4. txag98
5. zeblien
There are 2 replies of interest for the track day 1 used to have an 8, and the other I am not sure of what kind of vehicle he has
1. SikRedRX-8 (now driving a S2K)
2. Tezmac (Unknow what type of vehicle)
So for those of you who have not made a decission as to whether or not you plan on attending the track day, Please let Kewl know as soon as possible so we can include you in the head count and hopefully lower the cost to all who do go. It sure would be great to see all 11 8's out there! This most definately would be the largest gathering of NM 8's as to date!!

I have talked to so many people and left notes, not as messy as yours hahaha but none have come to the forum. I think most people think we are all young and crazy.. not sure... why they don't come to the forum.
I have a scan guage so if you ever get any codes, being that I'm so close I can quickly check them for ya. Fred has one as well. Well enjoy your day.

Okay this might be a stupid question but since ive never driven a car on the track what is needed to be compliant..When you take a motorcycle there are a few things you have to do so they will let you go on the track.
So I know from everyone talking that I will need a helmet. Is this like a special helmet or can I use my mororcycle helmet?
thanks for the help,

Hey all sorry I've been talking up a storm here. Just wanted to tell you my disappointment with purchase from Rx8/Rx7 store
. I got their slotted rotor/brake upgrade kit. Brakes came in 3 days, but then get email rotors on back order but should ship in a few days. Well 8 business days latter and Jason from Rx7 store won't return my emails nor my phone calls.
Couple of days their VM box was so full you couldn't leave a message. I have to say great prices but shitty services.
I will stick to RacingBeat in the future as they have been amazing in all parts of sale and products. Cost more but don't get the run around.
I hope I don't have to turn this into a legal matter and tell them to govern themselves accordingly.
well great weather so get out and wash and wax your cars.... we need a meet again soon.... spring fever time... and all have some
Chow.. Justin..

I have to agree Justin! SPRING FEVER has hit hard over here and a get together is the only cure!!!
Anyone here in the Las Cruces Area? I don't own a RX-8. I actually own a 2006 Mazda MX-5. But i'm trying to meet up with some people. I just moved here and i work so much, its hard to make friends around here. so i figure might as well make some Mazda Friends. PM me sometime, show me some cool hangout spots
What's the latest on the track day? Any dates i mind, Fred?
I'd love to have a meet soon, but I won't be in the 8. The twin turbos are in the final stages of installation! WOO HOO! It'll be out of commission for at least another week. After that, it'll be drivable, but I'll still be in the process of tuning. We need to have a special meet when its done so you guys can take her out for a spin! yeah!

MD I can't wait!!!!!!!

American Idol....here comes Justin!
Okay....note the date and time....are you reading carefully? Track Day is scheduled for:
April 29th....a Sunday. Starting at 1pm...we will have the track and perhaps as many as 4 instructors.
We are doing just the afternoon....trust me for first time drivers the afternoon will be more then enough time to use up all your gas...so as to share cost with a morning racer group. We are the street car afternoon group.
Costs remains at about $200 per person. We can accommodate 8-10, perhaps a few more so lets get as many to commit to this date as we can so that we still have enough participating to help offset those who find they can't make it at the last minute.
We will be the only cars on the track so we don't have to worry about a ton of other people getting in the way.
More on what you will want to bring and do for track day as we get closer.
