I would check out tirerack.com. true winter tires are very expensive for our size of rim... trust me I checked.. looking at 800.00 to 1000.00 for decent set of winter tire. You can move to a all season tire for probably 600.00 to 800.00 which would give much better traction than the summer tires that are on it.

My KDW/2 do ok, but once tread is full of snow.. forget it... ice skates... I have been using the old sunfire and that thing is great in the snow.

merry christmas and hope we can all meet soon.

for 800, I could just buy a crappy toyota or something.

Have you heard of anyone using winter cables on these tires? For $40, seems like a better solution.

Sadly, I was shoveling the drive today and backed the 4x4 Dakota out of the drive. Then in the process of putting it near the curb in front of the house got stuck. No, really, on a fairly flat street, the thing just drifted into the curb and was so happy there it wouldn't move forward or backwards an inch.

Oh well, finished shoveling the driveway and whatnot and then with just 1 foot cleared in the front of the wheels got it out. Just funny.

Note to self - 1' + of snow is more than it looks.....

Yeah being new to the area, I was truly amazed at this amount of snow.

My rental Ford Taurus has done very well though, it has managed to plow through most of it.

Hope it melts though, but I keep hearing about another storm thats supposed to hit tuesday/wednesday? But the weather sites dont show nothing.

I tried to take my 8 out this morning and found out that it made a very nice snow plow for about 15 feet... Then it got stuck where there was no snow. no snow, but a lot of ice going uphill. I used to love the snow...

Well I havent found any cables for my tires, nor any new tires... however, my stock tires are doing fine, though 4in ice bumps are hard to pass (if at all).

There is no such thing as too much snow.
too much ICE... ya there is.

Well I came to albuquerque on friday to spend new years at my buddys new house and I just about died coming into town. It started snowing in grants at about 3 and it looked ok when I left here. But once I got the the 66 casino it just plain sucked. I drove from the casino into Alb. at 25 miles per hour the rest of the way....Anyways to make a long story short I got stuck and couldnt move the 8 for 3 days. It was a good new years though...walmart was sold out of beer like it should have been

O yeah does anyone live on the west side off of unser by the cottonwood mall area???

let me know and we can meet up and get some food or something.

I love snow, but the ICE can kiss my ....

Anyway! I dont believe I have met you, and the NM 8 group hasn't gotten together in a long while... But if you want to catch some grub thats fine with me...Just name your place (after 6pm)

Also, are you the red 8 that goes to NM Sports and wellness?

Dang! Stupid girls...

I almost sold my 8 because of the incompetence of both mazda shops here... but I like the car too much.

Beware the Garcia Mazda shop... They stole items out of my car last time I had it in for work.
Anyway, Names Eric, and the weekend is good, just let me know where to meet you at, and when. If you PM me your number, I can call you when I am on my way.

I haven't been to the dealer's shops in town, but I actually flew to Phoenix to buy my 8 because I couldn't stand either of the dealerships here. $60 plane ticket got me a bigger selection and saved me about $4000. No one in ABQ was willing to give me a good deal on an 8 with a package I didn't really want, but in Phoenix I got the exact car I wanted plus they were looking to make a deal. If anyone is looking to buy a car in Phoenix, or (knock on wood) breaks down in Phoenix, Earnahrdt Mazda in Chandler is by far the best dealership I have ever been to.

Anyways, the real reason that I was responding is that I am wondering which dealer's shop is the best in town? University's looks better, but does anyone have an opinion? (Although the fact that Garcia's stole stuff seems like enough for me).

University split shop grease. on the hood of my car, filled the tank up with regular 87 gas (was there to watch in horror), and the driver was a shop monkey that left my seats dirty.... brand new car....

Garcia is the better place in my Opinion... just dont leave stuff out for them to steal.
Though: if your not 25, they wont rent you a loaner car.

Thanks, I live closer to Garcia anyways. Haven't needed to go in to the shop yet, but it is good to know. Although I did break the sun visor the 3rd day I had my car and they said it was covered under warranty. I just don't feel like giving up my car for the day for a little sun visor. Who needs to see when you are driving towards the sun anyways...

I bought mine in Fort-Worth, TX. They even picked me up at the airport. I saved about $2500, and was enjoying my way back to Los Alamos.

I have a Ti gray 8, and I work at Emcore. I always see another Ti gray 8 leaving the base, but I haven't seen a blue one yet.

Nah, not at Emcore... in our parking lot at my building. I suppose that I could go read the name on the dealer tag and find out where their office is and go say hi. :-)
