Hey guys I haven't had my 8 for a while now, but I was wondering if anyone on here has any good recommendations for a tint shop in the Albuquerque area.

Thanks in advance and happy fourth!

Finally, an RX-8

For a year or so I'd been searching the internet for an affordable (i.e., used), "sporty" ride (after years of SUVs and pickup trucks). I was originally drawn to a Pontiac Solstice or Saturn Skye. Then I saw an RX-8 parked where I work, and fell in love with it immediately. When I read the reviews about how elegant and meticulous the RX engineering is compared to the cheap, shabby engineering of the GM products, my mind was made up. My attention focused on the RX-8, and did I ever get lucky! On Saturday night before Memorial Day I found a 2005 GT at a dealership (Burton Motors) with only 22,000 miles on it! Nah, too good to be true. Still . . . . I took a chance and spent $35 for a CarFax report. The car came back clean as a whistle: no wrecks, no repairs, all suggested maintenance timely done at a dealership. It was all I could do to wait until 10:00 on Sunday (when I figured Burton would be open) to take a look at this car. Damn. They were closed on Sunday. But they were open on Monday, and told me to take the car out for as long as I wanted. I drove down to 2nd St., found a shady spot in an empty lot, and spent about an hour checking the car out. Everything worked! I mean everything! Then I drove to Bernalillo the back way (decent road, no cops) passing everything in sight. When I returned to the dealership I immediately plunked down an earnest money deposit. Two days later the car was mine! This silver bullet is immaculate: no dings or dents, no chipped paint, no blemishes of any kind. With only 22K miles, it's almost a brand new car. I won't say what I paid for it, because if I do y'all will hate me.

I had a quick question for the NM guys, specifically the Albuquerque guys. I am going to be interviewing for a job at Sandia National Labs and wanted to know how the 8 scene is the area.

Cars and Coffee

Hey dudes, I'm thinking of doing a cars and coffee type event maybe once or twice a month. I'm thinking third Sunday of the month (which would be the 22nd this month) at 6:00pm at the Satellite coffee on Alameda by Corrales. Anyone interested?

Cars and Coffee

Yes, Lets join forces. Im sort of new to town so I don't really know anybody around here.

I need to change the date to the 29th due to a birthday BBQ my wife is throwing me on the 22nd. I will be out there at around 6:00 if anyone wants to join. Mine is the bright yellow one. Can't miss it

Seems like everyone talks about getting together on these sites but no one actually does.

I would really love to get a group thing going as well. I just moved to Albuquerque a few weeks ago. I've been highly involved in other rotary groups in the past (all Rx7's) and there seems to be a very large amount of 8's running around here as well as a few Rx7's. I'm down to do anything to get things worked out. Even if that means starting off as just a couple to few people until it escalates into a much larger crowd.

. . . . .Steve Kan Tuning In El Paso, TX. . . . .

Sorry to burst in but,

Local members of RX7Club are planning a tuning session with Steve Kan in a few weeks. I’m getting the word out to any members of neighboring cities that would be interested in getting their cars tuned by one of the Premier Rotary tuners in the country. Date is still tentative but we’ve already been in contact w/ Steve and everything should be finalized within a couple weeks. If anyone here would be interested in this, please send me a pm or post up and Ill answer any of your questions to the best of my ability. Below is a link to Steve’s website:
http://www.kantuning.com/forum/index.php

Thank you for reading and hope to have some of you come out w/ us to get your own cars tuned!!!!!

NM watch out!

To all Rx8 owners in the Clovis NM area, be on the look out for NM State troopers out to stick it to US military members. They hang out by the front gate looking for out of state plates all the time. Got popped for a $70 ticket for smoked corners and taillights, also got a warning on my front windshield tent (which was done in Fl. and was legal there)

Dudes, there is a cars and coffee going on here in town that would be cool to get some RX8's out to. I usually go with my RX8, its bright yellow, cant miss it. There are about 20 to 25 cars that show up every week. Including a sweet mosler some GT-Rs porsches and a lot of corvettes and other random stuff like NSXs and STIs

It starts at 8:00am ever saturday and goes to 10:00am

See you there

Know that the RX8 is a rotary engine and they require a different approach and understanding of how to use them correctly. Check oil levels, they use oil on purpose...not much mind you, but you do need to watch that. Warm up the engine on first start from cold engine...don't start cold and shut down cold... The engine likes (some say requires) high revs often...very often. Pick manual trans over automatic. Gas mileage will NOT be good. If you are very careful you might get 19 mpg (city) if you are lucky. Oil changes are a pain...unless you are careful in removing the filter you can get oil all over the engine which will stink if you don't clean up afterwards...and I mean a careful cleaning.

The car handles like nothing you have likely ever driven and is a blast to drive. And last....read as many post on this forum as you can before you actually buy one. They are a different beast, but can be and are a wonderful car with proper care and feeding.

Good Luck

Well Mikey I guess we have to assume that you mean carbon build up in the engine. That is admittedly a common concern. I don't know of anyone who has had the issue to the point of needing attention from the repair shop. As you will read in the forum, here and elsewhere, we usually avoided any carbon build up by running the engine to red line often.

You might want to search out the technical areas of the forum to see how and if anyone has addressed this shop cleaning issue themselves. I know I have never read anything on it, but then again I was never looked for it either.

Good Luck

Thanks for the recommendation. I wanted to take my Evo to the Tint and Trim factory, unfortunately, those folks are open the same hours I work and are off the same days I am off. I ended up taking my car and my wifes car to Lomas Glass and Tint. They did a good job on both cars, much better than the shop that tinted my 8.
