I hope he did autograph it so that I can mount it on the wall next to the magazine article.

mm, if someone has no catalytic converter and they get the AP, would you advise them to start on the stage 1 flash anyways, and then move up to stage 2 and then stage 3? or should they start on stage 3 and go from there? (im assuming stage 3 flashes are the ones for rx8s without cats)

i believe the wise/safe thing to do would be to start at stage 1 and see what series of maps your car is going to need. Then after establishing that, use the series of maps in the stage you desire

per his posts before, he's including a host of what we call stages. Then in each stage there are a series of maps progressively leaner or richer. The goal is to watch the fuel trims until they get close to zero and then you found the right series and can safely go to the higher stages then with confidence.

If i understand it all correctly, the stages have different afr targets (stage 1, stage 2, stage 3, ect). The series for each stage have different volumetric efficiencies figured into the map (stage 1a,b,c,d,e,f stagege 2a, b, c ,d e,f, ect). So you find which series your cars VE matches up to (the letter group), and then you can freely move up or down stages (say group b works so you can use Stage 1b, 2b, 3b) at your own will and not have to worry about not being in tune.

Its up to you to pick the right series and then up to you to determine how aggressive you want to be by picking the stage. It only makes sense to use the stage 1 maps to determine your series so you don't have to worry about exploding an engine.

I doubt it.
Why don't you just post up your fuel tables so I can compare them?
Ok, you have become significantly more polite and I appreciate that.

In short, the AP will not program anything that is not generated by Cobb so, if you want to try anything other than files generated by Cobb, you can send your requests to Jeff or you can get another flasher that accepts Open Source files. Is that accurate?

Tables have and will continue to be posted.

I guess I should confirm the whole locked PCM thing while I am at it. To work with a PCM that has been flashed with Cobb, the owner must first go back to the stock flash before other tools can reflash the PCM. Is that an accurate statement?

Essentially.
Once the "RACE" version of the software is available, people will be able to generate their own calibrations, but they will not be able to open calibrations created by "PRO" tuners unless those calibrations have been designated to be opened by the RACE version of the software.
I will make tunes as people need them, but the library I've already developed will cover 99% of all the applications out there.

That is, more or less, what it all amounts to. Except it is a relationship between the engine's Ve and the MAF calibrations that decides the sub-flash to use.

I've decided not to actually program the APs before they leave here. That would just yield about 280 useless calibrations on everyone's AP.

Instead, you will just go to a link on my site and download the appropriate family of calibrations to your AP Manager library and then burn them into the AP.
That also ensures that you have the most up-to-date versions of everything.

So one will still need to order the AP through you to have access to these maps?
