if that were so, only one ap would ever be sold.

When you flash your car, you mate it to it. You then cannot use the ap on any other car till you uninstall it from yours. The uninstall restores the original map back to your car.

So ultimately, you CAN try things out on your friend's car if you wanted. You just can't use it on both your car and your friends at the same time.

It's not yet confirmed that the AP will work on Canadian models but I bought one anyways. Worst case senario, I gotta buy a USDM pcm for my car to make it work.

I know the AccessPort is married to the specific car is flashes, but can it check and clear CEL codes on multiple rx-8s?

I remember reading that you can check CEL codes with the handheld but you cannot clear them unless you run the software.

will the AP have some sort of lean protection?

i was doing a HPDE last year and on the back straight @ about 120 mph in 4th when the car shut off on me. i had a quarter tank of gas and thought it was ok. i was wrong! now i'm on turbo and would not want that happening.

also, i have the int-x currently. will i have to do anything other than disconnect the int-x and plug in the AP?? i cannot wait to get this thing and finally get to drive my car the way it should be driven.

[I]m sorry I missed out on MM tuning as I had ordered the Cobb unit nearly a month ago. I would like to have a map for a hi-flo cat, revI intake and catback setup.

No. It can't do anything the OE PCM can't do. Best bet is to upgrade your fuel pump and keep the tank full.

Un-plug one and plug in the other. That's it.

The "Stage I" map that Cobb ships will probably work just fine for you.

Let me clarify something -

There aren't different calibrations for all of the different exhausts and intakes. Those things don't matter.
All the PCM knows is how much air is going into the motor - it doesn't care how it got there (or how it gets back out again).
So, the different calibrations for the AP are designed to adjust for all of the irregularities that are introduced into the sensor readings by installing aftermarket parts.
If you follow the directions, you will get the correct tune, regardless of your actual installed parts list.

As far as "how far can you push it?", that will depend on you.
Any time you ask for more from the motor, it will exact some price.
For most, the price will be fuel economy and CAT life. You will also have to budget for running the best fuel you can.

So I am assuming that the most aggressive NA map should probably only be used on a cat-less vehicle wth race fuel (100-110 Octane)?

CAT-less - yes. Race fuel? Probably over-kill.
Typical 93 will be more than adequate.
West coast people and those in hot climates will have to think twice when using our crappy 91 octane.

As I said - West Coast people will have to do what that can.
We're in the same boat here in Phoenix.

Hay!

It says put key in and leave in off position.

Then it says after installation turn the key off.

When was the key ever turned on?

Would you consider making a race fuel NA MAP, or would that have to be a custom tune. Is there very much more power potential with 100+ octane fuel, risk/expense vs Power, I do not know if it would be worth it.

So hmmm .. does the RX8'S computer have "access' to the firmware version of the audio system(I''m guessing that's a big NO, but gonna ask), and if so, does the Accessport also have access to that information?

It can be done, but there really isn't much to gain.
Now, on a boosted RX-8...

Someone else noticed that the other day.

Once you have it plugged in, you turn the key to "on" with the motor off.

Unless it has additives that make it oxygenated, the only thing hi octane gas gives you is resistance to detonation. It's not worth it unless you are FI.

The most radical tune I have for the N/A guys is pretty ragged edge.
Considering that there are some people that have detonation issues N/A, a radical tune may be too close to the edge on the available fuel.

But that's ok. Because I will use it for track only and add a mix of high Octane gas or race fuel.

My car actually runs better with better fuel on the track.

Sure will be nice to get rid of that full throttle bog mode. You actually have to pull off the throttle a little for it to accelerate better in a stock 8.

Not sorta - absolutely.
Like ANY modification, you are at your own risk.
The only thing I (or Cobb) guaranties is that the AccessPORT does what it says it does and that is modify the PCM programming in a predictable way.
What you do with that modification is your own business.

That said, you are not likely to do any damage to a normally aspirated Renesis with tuning of this sort.
Its the emissions equipment that won't fare so well in the long run.

.
So even us in Phoenix can run the ragged edge N/A tune on our 91 fuel?

Probably not in the summer.
You need to be careful and avoid detonation.
If I were N/A, I'd take it down a level in the heat.
Boosted, I run WAY under potential in the summer.

Did you get a chance to monitor exhaust temps at your various stages? My stock cat has started to fail with the car stock so I picked up a new Supercat. Naturally I'd be interested in pushing the tune as far as possible without destroying the cat right away. Maybe stage 2?
