goose: much reading ahead of you I forsee.

long story short: Power is NOT the main reason for buying this. There IS power to be gotten out of it but it depends on your individual car, your mods, and how good the tuning on your car already is. (even though we have the same cars, tuning / hp is quite different from one to another)
reliability through more oil being injected, fans coming on sooner, leaning out the fuel trims, etc are just SOME of the benefits of this thing.
throw into that: real time OBDII, data logging, and ability to pull / reset CEL lights. For 7 bills, this thing is a STEAL.

now, before you ask a follow up question, I suggest taking a trip over to the Cobb forums. Answers to all of your questions are ther and here with a few good "searches" (use the search tool towards the upper right)

27 pages to read in the first post .. and i got not paid for . So i skipped the 175 in this thread

so ... my question .. does the car got a better mpg at all with the stage 1 ?
the performance gain for a resetted ecu with no LTFT is quite nice (I talk about one of the first dynos from march)

Are there any experience with fuel consumption at a bone stock N/A (just a drop in K&N with a Sebring cat-back exhaust maybe).

I went from 15-17/18 with ap and a catless race pipe. That's without being fully tuned yet, we'll see how much more mpgs i get when i'm fully tuned.

I can only speak for my car but I had an interesting little situation which allowed me to explore the MPG limits of my own RX8. I was driving in rather high elevation (about 6,000ft+) and the baro sensor was attempting to correct because of the altitude. Because of my specific tune, the baro sensor was actually leaning my vehicle out way too much.

I was producing AFR's around 16.5:1 to as high at 17:1 when it started to sputter and misfire. I was crusing around 75mph. I did have to change tunes because at one point I could no longer accelerate up hills without misfiring.

Anyway, once I stopped for gas I calculated that I was getting around 24 to 26 mpg. I've not come even close to that driving around Phoenix but it would be rather dangerous to drive like that on a daily basis.

At least in my case, around 25mpg is the limit of what the motor can produce N/A. Still, it's not a daily driver setup that would last.

I've found that around 21mpg is a very realistic fuel mileage if you drive mostly highway miles.

Humm i get 24 easy on the freeway even had it at 27 for a few miles

Jeff...

I've been working on an automated spreadsheet for people to use to obtain the 2nd gear and 3rd gear WOT data they need to send to you and automatically graph itfor them/you.

Let me know if something like this graph works for you...

wow .. i have around 21 mpg with moderate driving. I had the 6 port renesis.
the 24, 27 mpg ... are that on a 4 or 6 port ?

Currently, i have the full areo package installed. Also i have an K&N drop in, with the OEM airbox (walls removed). I have also the stock cat with a sebring cat-back exhaust.
ECU was at stock setting (2007)

The AP was interesting for me to get a better mpg ratio and a little bit more performance. But i'm not sure about cat lifetime. Will AP with stage 1 setting (or a MM setting, based on my setup) hurt the cat or not ?

other... i'm interested in the stock A/F ratios in the different gears (1-6). is something anywhere available ?

^^sorry to tell you this cause I hate it when ppl tell me to read. you really do have to read this entire thread start to finish before buying the AP. there are a lot of positives and a few things you need to know and understand before jumping in and buying it. most of my mods are listed in my link.

Every time you start your engine you're "hurting" your cat. That reality exists regardless of whether or not you've leaned out your AFR.

I've been watching my cat temp closely lately and with my AFRs fully tuned (thanks again, Jeff -- can't say it enough) under normal circumstances it is no hotter than stock.

All bets are off ***** to the wall and I'll refer back to my original point...

Don't get me wrong
I've read a lot of posts and the original thread where the AP is discussed and tested the first time by MM. So i've learned a lot of it, even it works with a much more leaner A/F ratio above 4500-5000 rpm. Also that there will be about ~ +10 hp out of the box. Thats impress me much.

I understand too that the AP alone is just a flashing/gauge tool, where you can store some maps/settings on it and fill your ecu with the information.
Creating the maps/setting is the harder part of the work.

But to read this thread .. thats still gets impossible now i think.
There are about 175 pages full with posts .. i think the ratio time to read/information get out is now sooo good. Don't fool me, but i can be wrong too

Nevertheless i spend the last 2 nights in reading theards to ap and A/F... but it seems i have to continue ^^

electric superchargers are the way to go now

just add some nawzzz and it will transform it into an electric nawzzz powered supercharger SPEWING MASSIVE amounts of HP and TQ that has electrically charged air FTW!11!!1

p.s. it will get you lots of naked girls...but only if you mount 4 BOVs on the roof

aye, since the release of the AP another AFR tuner hit the market and has taken it by storm, rendering all prior tuning products inferior and obsolete...

The accessport's value goes beyond the MPG and fuel mapping to do things like eliminate annoying check engine lights, increase your OMP output (big one there) as well as modify your fan turn on/off temperatures etc. This device eliminates your dependance on Mazda for flashes.

The lifetime of your CAT will only be shortened with leaner fuel mixtures due to the increase in exhaust gas temperatures. MazdaManiac will account for your CAT but that will limit the overall power output the AP will get you.

It's the best $695 you can spend on your car...period.

I would agree that it's best to understand what you're buying before pulling the trigger. Mainly understand the responsibility that lies on you for gathering and reporting the needed data so that your tune works properly. Also understanding what to look for in the event there are problems.

The various map stages are something that was released by COBB. MazdaManiac provides tunes based on your own specific modifications to your vehicle and gives you an optimal tune. There are no "stages" with individual tunes. The stages which cobb provides are general tunes that will not be specific to your car.

Ok .. so the exhaust temps will get maybe higher at full load due to the leaner A/F ratio. I know, that the the cat will limit the power out but currently i'm within the mazda warranty so it's important. I plan to use the cobb AP when my warranty void. The facts and impressions i've read makes me optimistic that it is the best tune i can get for that money .. period

I would highly suggest using the AP even if you're still within warranty. The only precaution you might take is uninstalling it prior to going into the dealer for any kind of major service or anything you might suspect they would check the computer for.

Yes, you're correct that leaner air/fuel mixtures tend to create higher exhaust temps.

As for the european accessport...I have no idea when per say but I know it's being worked on so hold tight and as soon as it can be purchased you'll find out here first.
