Interesting. What were the issues?

I've been trying to kill the LS2 coils for a while now (as have several others in your neck of the woods) and I can't seem to do it.
Track days, road-enduro and extreme heat don't seem to affect them at all.

The cracked front plate at the dowell (like mysql) is very similary to some failures I have persoanlly witnessed in drag racing on high boost 20B's that have had a "big sneeze" (backfire in the intake)...

Deduce from that what you want. But don't necessarily blame the iginition (although it just as well could be). How about an Apex Seal sticking, leaving a opening for the "flame" through a port or similar - and causing detonation...

Like I said - deduce from this what you like. Just trying to look outside the box, and add other real life experiences to compare to.

Cheers,
Hymee.

I don't want to blame something incorrectly, so I'm open to further investigation. I'm just saying what I think with the information at hand.

Now, for your suggestion of possible apex seal sticking, what are the odds of that happening if the engine tests with normal compression and all seals show almost identical PSI numbers? With premix, sohn adaptor installed? And only happening once the ignition was installed, and never again once it was removed?

Will the condition of the seals tell us anything once we rip the engine apart to either confirm or disprove your possible theory?

You have LS2 coils on your Rx8? Any special mods to make them work?

EFIdude excel file export

For those using EFIdude, which seems to be a lot of people using this thread, I received this response from EFIdude:

".... As for the CSV file export, it is about second on the request list…so it will be added shortly. We are trying to address the requests on a per volume basis, so what the public demands most is what we try to add first. I would estimate that the export function will be available within a few weeks."

If this is a little cryptic for some, csv file export means export to a format excel understands. I hope this means it will be available soon.

I wonder what is #1 on the list.

The logging capabilty of the Cobb software does include a delimited text (CSV) file.
When the consumer version of the software becomes available, this will be quite useful.

Right now, the solution I strongly recommend is the sCANalyzer.

Hey Jeff, just floated you some scans. This set of maps(1C-5B) made my fuel trim (-17)and AFR's worse. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

I wanted to buy one from Hymee and he said they are currently working on a USB version.

Sounds like it may be worth the wait.

Here's my 3rd Gear AFR chart at WOT. Jeff I've already sent it to you. My LTFT is 0 to -1 so based on your instructions I don't want to change the map but it's definitely rich above 5K rpm.

Do the Dwell setting on the Mazsport ignition help to make more power in an NA car?

Basically I'm just trying to figure out if the BHR coils with the oem similar dwell settings will have the same performance gain in NA form as the Mazsports do.

I am wondering if there was a good reason to make the Mazsport ignition with a set dwell setting or if it was just something that was over looked?

Not trying to knock anyones equiptment just trying to understand what difference the dwell settings can make, if they can add power by being changed from the OEM and if that was the purpose.

This is relevant in the Cobb forum because I am wondering if the dwell settings can be changed with the Cobb using the BHR coils to make more power, just incase the Mazsport ignition produced more power with the static dwell.

Different coils need a different dwell setting. That is just how it is.
As it so happens, the BHR coils have the same dwell characteristics as the OE coils.
The MazSport do not.

Once the dwell is correctly set, there is no more power to be had.
Its just a matter of proper operation.
If your coils are misfiring because the dwell is incorrect, believing that correcting the dwell setting is adding power is a bit silly.

The advantage to an aftermarket coil setup is reliability (in both operation and longevity). The added spark energy is just a positive side effect that is only advantageous if your situation requires it.
Generally, if the charge is lit, adding spark energy to it has no effect.

I've read that the coils from the BHR system are what corvette owners upgrade to, so that's a v8 vehicle with 800+ whp. It should work OK for our 1.3L and sub 400 whp.

I took a video today in 3rd gear @ 8psi with the latest custom map Jeff sent me last week.

Power delivery is ultra smooth. I was having issues at the drag strip last weekend (14.2 @ 97 with 1.9 60ft) and was thinking I might have a clogged cat because I premix 8oz for every full tank of fuel.

I am going to order a Mazsport dual resonated midpipe to see if that solves my problems.

4,500rpm - 11.1 - PSI 8.4
4,750rpm - 11.3 - PSI 8.5
5,000rpm - 11.3 - PSI 8.4
5,250rpm - 11.1 - PSI 8.2
5,500rpm - 11.1 - PSI 8.2
5,750rpm - 11.2 - PSI 8.3
6,000rpm - 11.1 - PSI 8.2
6,250rpm - 11.5 - PSI 8.1
6,500rpm - 11.4 - PSI 7.8
6,750rpm - 12.1 - PSI 7.3
7,000rpm - 11.4 - PSI 8.6
7,250rpm - 11.1 - PSI 6.5
7,500rpm - 11.0 - PSI 6.4
7,750rpm - 10.9 - PSI 5.9
8,000rpm - 11.0 - PSI 4.8
8,250rpm - 10.7 - PSI 4.5

Chicago Dyno Tune Meet

MazdaManiac,

Since your PM inbox is full, I'm resorting to this thread. I suggested this in the chicago dyno tune thread. I'm going to ask here. Are you going to bring some accessports with you for purchase in chicago on the 7th? Also if I ordered one off your website would I be able to pick it up in chicago (since I'm planning on being there anyway)?

And yes, I'm looking at doing almost 10 hours of driving in one day. Have an appointment for window tinting in Wisconsin Rapids at 8 am on the 8th.

so to summarize what ive seen in these posts and make sure im straight on the issue........ the AP has problems setting the dwell correctly for the maz ig.........so AP + masport ig+ turbo =...bad idea?.........if so this kinda sucks as I was looking to upgade my components once for forced induction and I have installed the mazsport ig solution. I was looking to get the AP also but am now reluctant because of the issue........and what can be expected using the AP with the mazsport ig. NA ?

AP and Mazsport ignition dwell can be addressed acording to Scott; and I think Jeff has the info to do it; but I have not seen confirmation that is has been done.

But overall; it should not be that big of a deal.
