So I am now feeling pretty comfortable in using the Cobb tune now.

Someday, when Scott is more comfortable with doing a Dyno tune with the Cobb on my car, or if Jeff is ever in this area I will go ahead and pay for a custom tune to to be sure I get the most out of my Cobb.

For a recap I get 14.5-15.2 from 7500-9300 rpms with no knock retard or detonation. The car feels a lot stronger and my 1/8 mile mph has gone up 4 mph with the addition of The mazsport ignition, Cobb Stage I tune, and the subtraction of a catless mid-pipe.
your running no where remotely close to where Cobb tuned the car to be... ab0rt to Jeff's maps

Thanks for the graph, it shows I should be around 12.5 in the high rpms. I guess just a K&N drop in filter can screw up their tune.

you are right, he is very busy. but he also is making efforts that FAR exceed any obligation he has to help any and all as soon as he can. from my small dealings with Jeff, and what i know of him through friends, the guy spends ALL his time working for us. he doesnt even sleep like a normal man between the AP and the 3071 work.
I did send my email in with videos b/c I didn't quite understand the best way to do screen shots of the data I was seeing. I'm not bashing him, I just feel like another number lost after sale. Is that how it is...hell no I know this. However he did offer tunes so it is a obligation b/c he is a company and he did market it.

Not complaining. Just saying some form of contact would be appreciate. Even a " hey F u I'm working on it." At least I know he got my stuff.

I'm sorry. I meant to say series calibration. Per your original instructions that I followed to a "T"

Xx = Series. There are many different series of flashes. The larger "X" will be a whole number from 1 to 7. The small "x" will be a lower case letter from "a" to "d"

I never had much patience myself and have had my Cobb for about 5 weeks now, but I can't imagine how many of these tunes he has backed up, especially since they are Free! I wouldn't want to be in Jeff's shoes.

Ok, I made it to page 25 of this thread after considerable time and decided that I couldn't catch up to the posts being made. So I'm going to just ask it.

For the AP, is there a package for buying the software to create the maps ourselves?

For other tuners: (info hunting. not necessary to answer but since i was asking questions felt this was a good place as many other ideas were talked about before)

1. I have an 07 6port MT, do I need the Mazsport Ignition coils or have the OEM ones been fixed by this time?

2. Anyone tried putting heat reflective insulation on the outside of the airbox and intake tube to the manifold to reduce intake temps? (using the stock air box and tube since technically it is a cold air intake because it pulls the air from in front of the radiator)

3. Anyone running a vented hood notice an increase in undercar temps? Any ill effect on the transmission or issues with fuel delivery? (Theory being that the sealed back edge of the stock hood is to force more air past the tranny and exhaust under the car thus cooling the tranny and preventing the exhast from heating up the fuel in the tank)

4. Is it possible to install a fuel pressure guage without taping the fuel pump or fuel line? Possible to pull info directly from the ECM? Does the 8 have a built in fuel pressure sensor?

5. Is it possible to install guages to monitor any sensor on the car without tapping the sensor directly? (Looking at the racing beat gauge kit and you have to put inline sensors in instead of using OEM sensor data)

Damn thats a lot of questions and most are not relevant to this thread. You are going to have to ask all of the others besides the Cobb AP questions in the proper areas.

As far as creating your own maps there is only a Pro Tuner Software that is $1500. Eventually there might be a consumer tuner software like there is for the Subaru WRX STi version, and that runs for only $400.

For Mazsport ignition info goto the major horse power section and there is a thread about them. There is also a Black Halo Racing section which is or will soon be offering another alternative to the Mazsport. Try this link for the BHR https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/black-halo-racings-product-line-146611/

BHR ignition is using the same coils corvette owners *upgrade* to, and the dwell settings are the same as your OEM system, so no tuning required to use them. I think I heard they'll be available in a few weeks.

I still don't understand why the mazport dwell settings are different.

Would it not be a good idea to have OEM dwell settings even for N/A?

What is the purpose of the different dwell settings?

Yeah but that does not explain why Mazsport decided to use different dwell settings other than OEM.

Yep!

Jeff sent me the new maps with dwell settings. I just never understood the reason for Mazsport to use different dwell settings.

The latest map you sent me is damn close. I laughed when I read what you wrote in the description of my map (crazy crazy rich)

I figured I would post here and save you from one more email. lol

I will be taking it to the drag strip today to see what my trap speeds are like.

anyone want to do some off the top of the head troubleshooting...

everytime the fuel trims are reset (no matter what map i'm running - stock or other), the car starts and drives fine.... until you come to a stoplight, push the clutch in, and while the car tries to find idle the afr spikes to the 16's and the idle either stumbles severely or stalls completely.

I've only noticed this in the last year or two.... never ever had this problem the 3-4 years before -shrug-

Clean the MAF.
Might need to rescale the injector size with the AccessPORT.
They tend to diminish in capacity over time by a very small amount.
Which calibration are you running?

Its really any calibration

I flashed back to stock in an anticipation for a dear visit. The first drive cycle is tolerable in idle quality. The second drive cycle the car shut off about a half dozen times after its warm and only when coming to a stop when punching the clutch in and putting the car in neutral. You can restart the car and it idles perfectly smooth until comming to a stop again. The third drive cycle all was better.

I found out i couldn't get into my dealer for another couple weeks so I flashed back to 1a_3b which had worked for me flawlessly before (after the trims are reestablished). Same thing - first drive cycle is good, second unbearable stalling again only when coming to a stop, third all is perfect again....

so i'm not sure what the culprit is. Either a few years ago Mazda changed something in the various flashes I had, or something on the car is changing. It seems to have started though only about maybe 2 years ago. Looking at the latest recall thread, it seems to be a widespread problem too with lots of cars stalling.

I'll go clean the maf although i think i did that maybe last fall... just not looking forward at all again to flashing back to stock for the dealer visit, having the dealer flash it, and then flashing back and having to come to a stoplight with one foot on the gas and the other on the brake for 2 drive cycles to keep from stalling.

I just got back from the track. I ran my car 3 times and gave up.

The best I could get was 14.2 @ 97mph. My boost controller was set to 8psi.

I think there might be something wrong with my tune. Adrian1 had similar mods as me and was running 13.1 @ 107mph. The big difference is he was running the Mazsport Interceptor-X and I am using the Cobb AccessPort.

60ft - 1.948
330ft - 6.251
1/8th - 9.140

E.T. - 14.239
MPH - 97.969

we would need to see a dyno chart to know what your car is doing.

You can't directly compare. Some greddy owners only put down 240 whp, others are 290 whp. There's a huge range of power levels, and your tune may not be optimized yet, or you suck at driving, or your tires aren't slicks, etc.

Thats barely faster than my 1/8 mile time and I was spinning all the way through 1st gear, I bet with drag radials I could match your time. All I have is cat-back, K&N replacement filter, Cobb AP(with bad tune) and Mazsport ignition.

With just exhaust and filter my mph was 94, my car feels a lot faster now so I would guess it would be around 96/97 mph.

Exactly.

So really my car is not much faster than a stock rx8.

I don't care what anybody says. Something is wrong.

Let's assume I am a terrible driver. My trap speeds still don't make sense.

Adrian1 got a 1.904 60ft on drag radials on his 13.1 @ 107 pass.

http://www.dragtimes.com/2004-Mazda-...ures-7639.html

My 60ft @ 1.948 is pretty good on street tires so traction is not the issue.

I would expect my dyno numbers to be really low. What could be causing my lack of power?
