I'm just staying quite till the dyno day in Chicago

Jeff,

On the Chicago Dyno thread I asked a question regarding preping the vehicle for the dyno day. Should I uninstall the AP a few days prior in order to get a good baseline?

I guess I had one question left

And who would create such a thing?

Where do you think ALL of the FI calibrations on the AP are coming from at the moment?

Maybe when some of the other vendor/tuners come up to speed they will give away the goose, but at the moment there is only one game in town.
The last thing I want to do is put all of my work out there for free so someone can bastardize it and blame their mistakes on my "base tune".
At least, once someone steals the maps, they won't be able to claim that they are mine so their bad choice can't be pinned on me.

Unfortunately, that has been my experience with all of my other calibration work. It gets out there, someone ruins it and then I end up having to pick up the pieces.

No thanks.

i would say no open source tune even if you were giving it away. alot of people on here dont know how to tune, and may make adjustments on the wrong thing, and it would be a big mistake. i say we leave it to the professional ^

Well, I can understand the desire to have something to tinker with.
However, I can't accept the idea that I need to be the one to set up the sandbox.

That is why the whole "open-source" thread got so ugly.
The advocates wanted a short-cut and there are precious few who can offer that.

very true.

and as far as i can tell, Cobb Protuner is the only way to create or adjust maps for the AP, and that costs $1500 (from what i heard) and i am pretty sure no one would bite that cost for free tunes for everyone else, not including the time spent making the maps.

I got this whole tuning **** figured out, yo! Just ask Jeff about my recent analysis of his current maps. (in the AP help thread)

I think the Open Source is a Pandora's Box scenario. Yeah, everyone wants to try it but they have NO clue what they're getting themselves into.

Really, the $1500 is not the issue (not to mention that Cobb won't just sell it to you for $1500 - its not a retail package).
Its the "what the hell does throttle delta b do?" and "why is the latency table expressed in 6-digit cells?" part that should make you wonder less about why there is no "open-source" base tune.

^ exactly. i have done a bit of reading on tuning, and i still wouldnt trust myself with doing it on my own, or a shop that doesnt know how to tune a rotary engine.

And, for sure, I am the type of guy that shows up at Pandora's doorstep with a 9 HP Stihl chainsaw.
But, if I get kicked, I'm not gonna go crying to Christian or Trey.

What kind of launch did you do? Just out of curiosity.

Oddly enough...from 7k...with lots of initial wheelspin on RPF1's/275's was the fastest...which was counter to what I've found before which was to dump at 5.5k...

Back then I didnt have this much traction, power, or suspension modifications...

Unfortunately I'm having 2nd/3rd gear syncro issues...so I havent done a 0-60 test for a looong time...most of the track stuff doesnt really demand lighting fast shifting so its not a huge issue yet...I'm also trying to be as gentle as possible...

I'm also not used to the additional 9 ft/lbs of torque from the stage 3 maps...heh

As noted elsewhere, there really aren't any "Stage III" maps at this point.
There is just the basic "get it running right and optimized" Level I and the "burn your CAT to the ground for every last ft/lb of torque" Level II, which I am not totally comfortable with releasing to the wild before I "certify" the user that wishes to adopt it.

What you need to do is rename stage 1 to stage 2, and then your stage 2 is free to be called stage 3.

Then every 6 weeks you increase the stage numbers by one. Without this there isn't any visible advance/progress.

Ah yeah, I'm running stage 42.

Kinda like the Pettit? Whatever actually happened to "Stage I"?
Isn't "Stage II" actually "Stage I"?

When testing systems, it's usually called beta/alpha and that means a revision number of 0.x ....

So, its Pettit Stage v0.2?

Do the fixes get appended to the version number? Like, Phil's would be Stage v0.29 vs the way the kit ships as v0.21?

You gained 9 ft lbs of torque, thats pretty damn good. Did you dyno it?

I feel like I've gained a lot of torque with the ignition upgrade. I don't have a tuned map yet but if I can gain an aditional 9 lbs torque with a good map I'd be loving life. I'd also be spending a lot of money on gas since I'll be flooring it much more often

I'm with you on that, I have a catless mid-pipe sitting in the garage, I'm just waiting until it will be useful and not just a noise maker

No, an even number in the second position indicates a stable release. It's either 0.1.x, or 0.3.x.

Um, OK...

MM, I've been flamed before for missing the obvious, taken my lumps and shut up. I really don't think I did anything to deserve it this time, though. I've now reread the instructions a few more times. They are on the first page of this thread. For the AFR, they say:
"You should be seeing high 13's in some high-load conditions, mid 13's in most high-load conditions and high 12's in other high-load conditions."

My main concern was that I was seeing AFRs of 14-15 at full throttle. This seems high for full throttle. For close loop operation that would be normal, but not full throttle.

My guess is that you missed that I was talking about the AFR and thought I was still discussing the STFT. I only listed the STFT info to completely report what I was seeing, I was not particularly concerned about it. My concern is the high AFR at full throttle.

If I am still missing something, flame me again if you must.

[QUOTE=MazdaManiac;2456804]Once again, YOU ARE NOT FOLLOWING THE DIRECTIONS!!

Do not even bother to look at the STFT again after the initial start up. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT LOOKING AT IT.

What does it say at the bottom of the instructions?
