I can say that I found a new love for the RX8 again after a year of down time, and driving the M3, but it is currently down once again due to a cross threaded spark plug. I should have it fixed early next week as Im out of town for a trip to the Pentagon.
This ecu was a great buy for any FI project, and very simple to tune for minor or larger changes to the system!

Definitely has my attention and waiting for results from a few members.
No stand alone is going to make more power than the Cobb (or PT) would . Both are just a means to the same end .
It's just that it might be easier for a tuning shop with a stand alone because you don't have all the MAF issues to deal with and can tune in real time.
I have found a lot of people can't get the cobb to work well because they are unable deal with all the issues that arise after a sloppy install . The beauty of a map based system is that most of the gremlins that affect a maf tune don't worry a map tune . Although those same gremlins will invariably be a barrier to making decent power either way .
It's just that it might be easier for a tuning shop with a stand alone because you don't have all the MAF issues to deal with and can tune in real time.

You bring up some very good points, Brettus but lets not lose sight of the law of averages.
If more tuners have access to the platform then it stands to reason thru sheer numbers that more advances will be made. Its the positive impact to the community as a whole that excites me about this ECU.
Dave certainly validated your observations about the simplicity of the system today in describing how things are going with the Adaptronic. He is very impressed.
It sounds like we ran into some boost problems after a couple pulls and have ruled out a couple key things as the source, such as the turbo and the engine itself. Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it over there on account of work to get a full rundown status wise.
So some progress but not the one and done I was hoping for. I hope to leave work early tomorrow and spend some time with them to get a feel for exactly where we're at.

Something I read in between the lines in your short note regarding MAP vs MAF tuning... besides I needed to add something to the end of my post for dramatic effect lol

The only reason the first 6 port top mount system we built broke a record was because we were very persistent, and challenged the mentality that " they all never really make over 300rwhp, and they all act like this..."
Like I said before that took 3 trips to the dyno and over 10+ hours with the Cobb AP to get over 300rwhp with a PRO AP tuner...
And then even later on after the engine blew, a different Pro tuner took over and couldn't get over 300rwhp to my knowledge.. Then the ecu was finally swapped..
That is true in theory, however there is a reason people think the MSP engine can't make big power and that is the tune-ability of the Cobb AP.

Thats not what I am saying. The 2nd pro tuner could not access the locked maps from the 1st pro tuner, and he had to start from scratch. Either him or the customer gave up and didn't want to keep going, thats why it only made 300rwhp( same thing happened to us, but we didn't give up).
All I am saying is that to make over 300rwhp on a Cobb is almost Extremely hard. You will probably never get there if you aren't tuning with your tuner on a dyno in person, and willing to put in 10+ hours of dyno tuning. Not to mention the tuner better have years of experience tuning rotaries, and Cobb APs...
So moral of the story is if you intend on making over 300rwhp, use the adaptronic. You will get to your goals faster, and cheaper, with a LOT less headaches...

As for myself working with protuner (effectively the same as the cobb AP) - I have never done any dyno tuning - I just turn up at the dyno after resolving all the issues via street tuning and get great results - every time.
Paid the 8 a visit and she got some more dyno time today. Progress is definitely being made... one small step at a time.
There's so much to take in on this one... will do my best to document findings once we've reached our target HP or she blows trying.

It appears the Adaptronic has an automatic unflood feature of sorts. Fuel cuts automatically after a 7-10 second crank... Made a big difference for long winded warm starts.
Flames! My 8 finally blew flames! Could kick myself for not having my phone's video camera on it. This wasn't some measly ol' spit/spat/sputtter ... she lit up big time! It appears the full 3" exhaust and some magical mix of fuel air has finally got me into flamethrower territory.
More to come over the next week or so.
