Just in case you guys have not been following the Mazdaedit thread .
The cheaper personal version of Mazdaedit is now available for US$250 . Tactrix 2.0 hardware is another $us200 ish . So it would really be worth it for one of you guys to buy this and give it a try . I would be happy to help someone get going on this if they want to take the risk of testing an untried product .

I would be interested if this works... At a minimum I'd like to be able to tune the following:
1. Open loop AFR
2. Throttle map
Without affecting any other ECU functionality or any software bugs that could not be easily worked around.
Added bonus would be:
3. read and clear CEL codes
4. CEL masking for running without a cat
5. MAF calibration for closed loop
6. Knock sensor calibration
7. Ignition timing
8. Ignition retard

The creator claims he has many S2 customers already tuning. The hitches are: 1. No one on US or Aussie RX8 club boards have attempted on a S2 and reported back. 2. Only the professional version is currently "working". Which costs $899 for just the software. Basically the community needs a guinea pig or those like Brettus and others to test on S2.

Everyone is EXPECTING Brett to do all the hard work for you S2 guys. (see mazdaedit thread as well)
Brett has done enough just trialing the MazdaEdit program itself, getting bugs and errors sorted out.
It's time one of you S2 guys took the plunge and gives it a go
Like Brett said, he will help you and if it doesn't work, just return it.

The business of modding an 8 has never been as straight forward as most cars and when it comes to tuning options the streets are paved with failure .
So I can see why these guys are having a hard time committing .

Sorry, let me clarify. Speaking for myself, I do not expect Brettus nor anyone else to do all the work. I only mentioned Brettus by name because he is the most vocal regarding MazdaEdit. There have been a number of people with MazdaEdit who have commented they will try it on a S2. I myself have emailed epifan. What I was told originally was the personal version did not work with S2. To be able to tune would require the professional version and was quoted $899. When Brettus commented that the personal version was now listed as supporting the S2, I again emailed epifan. What I was told was that it was in the works and should be ready in two or three weeks. I said it then and say it again, at around $450 I'm willing to be a guinea pig. But to be perfectly frank, I don't know sh** about tuning. I'm willing and hoping to learn, but don't expect to be able to do more than say "I was able to upload a tune." But only when the creator says, yes the personal version works for S2. Right now, to me, they aren't.

Based on coversations going on in the MazdaEdit thread in the S1 area, I am happy to announce we will have a S2 working with a tune shop utilizing this software to answer the question. Saturday morning my MT 2009 GT will be at Dynotronics being read. They will take a look at the data then we will schedule a write. Will report back as this progresses.

9krpmrx8 - Plan is for me to be there about 11. Dropping the GF off at work at 6:30 then doing the lazy cruise from Dallas. Would be great to grab lunch if you want.
paimon - I only have 1 request.. cover yourself in cheeto dust first... ;-)

My only real upgrade up to this point has been the BHR ignition kit. If you take a look at thread diagnosis my dyno S2, you can see how rich my car runs. Brettus suggested I clean my SSV and VDI valves. So am trying to do that. I'd hope I can before Saturday but if not, will be before we write anything to my ECU for a true before/after snapshot. What do I expect to gain? Nothing really as far as horsepower. If they can figure something out to give me some ponies, great. If not, no loss. Am doing this to validate MazdaEdit can in fact do a S2 tune or not. If it does, THEN we can start looking at upgrades and FI for S2's that need a tune. I'm one of those that would like to go FI, but I really liked the little creature comforts of the S2.
