if anything, you can hopefully find the location of the dwell settings and tweak the dwell to better compliment the BHR ignition

What do I expect to gain? Nothing really as far as horsepower. If they can figure something out to give me some ponies, great. If not, no loss. Am doing this to validate MazdaEdit can in fact do a S2 tune or not. If it does, THEN we can start looking at upgrades and FI for S2's that need a tune. I'm one of those that would like to go FI, but I really liked the little creature comforts of the S2.

You have only bhr ignition kit ? I think as paimon said above you are going to tune dwell timings for better ignition timings.

I wonder how can we get more hp and nm only tuning afr ratio or ssv vdi apv opening timings ?

On my car i have intake, exhaust set up i will purchase bhr flywheel and ignition kit in ten days, if anybody here really trust himself to tune base map for intake exhaust and ignition tune Rx-8 map i will buy tactrix openport 2.0 but i hesitate for tuning na if really we need better cooling system or not for tuning afr ratios richer or leaner makes some differences and this maybe cause some situations. Wait good news i hope get through the diffuculties.

It does look like this needs to be a priority based on discussions around the board and the one I just had with TeamRX8. He helped me take a look at my engine and SSV and VDI seem to work good, just need to tune dwell in order to take first step in deciphering my odd top end.

Before you S2 guys get too excited . S1 has been through all this and saw diddly squat in the way of power gains so don't expect it to be any different for S2.

yup... It sorta bricked Brettus's ECU. Word has it there's an update that defeats the 100 flash limit similar to what Cobb did with the AP.

Ok guys, am back in Dallas. It's been quite a long day. So yes we were able to read the ECU. Dynotronics seems pretty knowledgeable in regards to tuning, but is quick to admit he doesn't know rotaries. Was able to look over some of the information. A lot of tables are defined as to what it is, however does not list what the axis are. He is going to get me the baseline dump so I can post some screenshots. Will update as more information becomes available.

Great research Brettus and wait to see the results. Wish all my S2 friends luck.

Maybe you guys don't recall but i already went thru all this ecu flashing with Dynotronics a while back when they made all the claims of what they could do. Didn't do a thing as shown by my dyno's posted.... didn't even change the A/F ratio. Not that it's their fault , was a little upset after the claims they made, but i honestly just don't think ecu flashing is going to do it.

For those of you that don't recall last summer I had my s2 running with a Hypertech ecu. Was running great but had some issues if the factory ecu was involved at all. Had to bypass it totally but in doing so would lose some factory functions . Didn't want to do that at the time. Still working on a solution with RIP . Hoping to get my car back out to Brad and have this thing finished on hypertech as long as I can keep certain functions. He already has everything mapped out, etc. So as long as we find a solution it shouldn't take long once i bring back to him. Will keep you posted as I find out more. just emailed RIP and waiting for a reply on progress.

.
Sounds to me like they had the tools but lacked in the execution .
There is actually quite a bit to learn before you can do this successfully .

Cobb is pretty well sorted in this regard but ME is (was) raw and incomplete by comparison which makes it doubly hard if you don't really understand the car or maf tuning.

Hmm, I didn't realize this was the same company that worked on bcjudo's car, I thought they were in Dallas?

No, what we did on Brian's car was a reflash from Piasini, and needless to say we were not too impressed with the results. Honestly, we have had ME for quite sometime, but I never even thought about the rotaries until someone emailed and asked me to look at the thread about ME here.

I'm not even really sure we want to start messing with the rotaries, as we have a thriving business tuning piston engine Mazdas( as well as most Asian cars). Add that to the fact I am not a rotary expert, and you understand my reluctance.

What I do have is a deep understanding of the denso ecu,MazdaEdit(and more than a few other suites),and a passion for all things regarding performance tuning of the automotive ecu.

So, if I can help, I'm more than willing to at least help prove that the sw will work to read and write, and what the hell, we might learn a thing or two about tuning the rotaries, you from our knowledge, and us from yours.

Understand where you are coming from . From the sounds of it you would be a great asset to the rx8 world if you were to take it upon yourself to learn how to tune them. Thing is that a tune on it's own wont make a big diffference , 5-10 whp at most. So it's not like it unleashes the beast so to speak.

My ecu has reached 100 flash limit - I understand you could bench flash with Piasini thereby resetting the flashcount ?

Right .... like Dynotronics mentioned they used a diff software and the result were unfortunately no so great. It was worth a shot , though .... I'm not sure if the mazda edit would produce a better result but it's still a reflash correct ? Either way I've tried just about everything on this damn thing to tune it .... i'd be happy at this point just finding something to get rid of the damn CEL light, lol, but none of those o2 simulators even work for that. Only thing that worked was when the hypertech was hooked up to the car. Hoping someone figures something out or hoping that RIP can figure a way to get the hypertech work without completely bypassing the factory computer..... which will work by the way, you just have to COMPLETELY take the factory computer out of the loop losing quite a few functions. Waiting for a response from Brad , hoping to get one soon.

This type of stuff is just trial and error. I appreciate that you were/are willing to take a risk in order to find out. Hopefully this will be a better option, I have my fingers crossed. Hoss05 has had an R3 sitting here at my house for 6 months waiting for some play time and it would be awesome if we could turbocharge it

So my OpenPort gets delivered today. When I get home I will also order MazdaEdit. Anything else in particular I need to do to get started? Of course there isn't much to do yet as no one has defined the tables, but i suppose i can get some sort of information from my car and out to the forum for people to look at no?

I think you will find enough tables are defined to get you a tune ....

the main thing you will need is time . Time to learn the software and how to tune the car.
