9krpmrx8... reason I'd like to is my idle drops down to about 650 and starts to sputter near die. Hasn't yet, but makes me a little nervous. Plus if I have rough idle now, if I try to do lighter flywheel won't it make issue worse?

Then you have other issues my friend. A properly running near stock (engine wise) car should not do that. Upping the idle speed would not be fixing the issue and likely would not make the problem go away.

I don't doubt that I do, but I don't know enough to know what it is. Upgraded the coils, keep the plugs updated, regular oil changes, APV and VDI turn easy. Not saying it will "fix it" but will make it a "non-issue". I want my 8 to run like you say, but this is the first car have been into improving and doing the work myself. Am always wanting to learn though.

I have n not read your previous posts, but, have you cleaned your MAF Sensor (Mass Air Flow)?, and is your Air Filter clean?..

Also there is an M-Tip (USA) out from Mazda US about idle dip or hunting or low idling, they have from memory attributed it to Air Filter BOX, Screen Diffusers being removed.

Ash, MAF has been cleaned. Air filter is good. And haven't removed any screens. Stock air box as well. Also cleaned throttle body. Wasn't horrendous, but reasonable for 80k miles.

Have you cleared ECU at all ??, KAM etc,

Remove Ground cable on battery and stomp on brake pedal within 30 seconds (once or S2's).

Or leave disconnected for half an hour or so, reconnect and just see...worth a try.

Not lately, but previously I have. Car seemed to be a bit quicker as it relearned fuel maps, but idle remained problematic. Have a dyno posted in diagnosis my S2 dyno thread if you want to look.

Small vacuum leaks can be a bitch and I have seen miniscule leaks cause pretty severe idling issues. If you ever come back down this way you can swing by and we can give everything a good looking at. If you are certain there are no leaks and everything is as it should be, then I would try running a can of BG 44k or a couple of bottles of Techron (great stuff) thru a tank of gas and see if that helps. It's doubtful but it can't hurt.

In Dallas you really have no hope of help unless you can get with Teamrx8 and see if he can help you.

Thanks for that. It gives me a place to start. Will do what I can and reach out to TeamRX8 if I can't find anything. May take you up on that offer in the future though ;-)

Yes, I already did that. I have done a race car RX-8 with no cats or o2 sensors and no check engine light.

I did email epiphan , but don't know if there's a direct site or link to purchase. I have no problem buying the pro version and taking to RIP to work on it .

I've heard so many should be's it's insane ... IMO , until it's actually releaased for this car .... it isn't happening. When it is, cool .... but to answer your question am i in a hurry ? yes, actually i am .... see we have this little annoying thing in my state called emissions testing, lol, and my car I believe will be due for one this year. So if i don't get rid of that damn cel , and be able to tune it .... i get to figure out how much it'll cost to put my old exhaust , midpipe, header , etc all back together to pass emissions then change it back again. Talk about a pain. So .... that being said ... If I have to spend a little more to get this done now I have no problem with that. Don't get me wrong, i'm hoping he'll say the personal is avail instead ... but i'm not holding my breath. Seems like we've been waiting for that for quite some time . I'll see what i get back from my email though . I've got a little time, like i said prob not taking my car up there until may anyway.

Yeah I'm hoping so myself , last summer was pretty disappointing .... and the summer before that, lol, so hopefully this project works without any hassles but we'll see.

How is emission testing done in your state? Even if the cel is gone you'll still fail the test. Why don't you just put on a catted pipe for the test?

In a lot of states all that matters is you have no cel on a obd2 vehicle. In Nevada they just hook up to the obd2 port and if its clear of a cel you pass, there is no sniffer test.

Yep .... received email this morning that personal version is now available, so I just bought it. Plan is to bring car to RIP weekend of may 24-26 with mazda edit, have him tune it, then drive it back. Hopefully should only be a one weekend gig and all done.

As far as emissions .... as far as i understand it if you can get rid of cel you're good to go here. However, Nothing has gotten rid of it for me except putting car on stand alone, or the mazda edit should get rid of it. None of those fake o2 signals , etc work. So this should fix that issue and also tune the car finally !

The personal version is working good so far with my S1. I went through the registration process with Epifan this morning. He made a new build of mep halfway through the process so be sure to tell him early on that you've got an RX8 -- I think he initially assumed I had an MS3.

Shows full support for the S2. I posted a screenshot of its editor in action in Brett's mazdaedit thread.

What is your STFT showing during this issue? This is usually how you can see if there's a leak somewhere.

Not sure, haven't looked before. Picked up vacuum pump this weekend to start trying to check things, but got distracted. Will see if it happens tonight and will watch the STFT to see.
