wow 245's on 9.5? stretchy

Fortune: i think 265's will work out - might have to roll though - it'll still look clean - are you lowered? or cambered?

That's a negative - w/stock height, like imput said, you can fit almost anything (that's reasonable)

typically you'll only need to roll if you're lowered and the wheel/tire doesn't fit...

Dick. I got an Auto because it was one of the conditions with my parents for me to own this car, considering i'm 17 and bought it myself. So sorry?
And aren't 8's mostly about the handling factor? Considering a very good amount of sports cars can beat an 8 in a straight line, manual or auto. I'm pretty sure the auto handles the same as the manual...

Anyway, I didn't know the going thinner would look terrible, since i'm new to modding. The rims were only $300 through a friend, which is a pretty cool deal, and they looked amazing, LOOKING AT THEM. I'm not saying on the car, I'll take your word for it as far as how it will look on the car.

Thanks guys. I just hate how this forum can be so rude at times, and i get pissed. It may make people not want to buy 8's if 90% of the people that own them are internet jerks. Haha.

Lol. Well you should have done more bargaining with your parents then. I was 17 when I got mine as well and that wasn't a stipulation for me. 8's are mostly for the handling factor/they are pretty unique, but don't act like straight line performance isn't important too. If the wheels are cheap, then by all means do what you want. They won't look terrible persay, but its not optimum. It's like the people that switch their stock "cold air" intake for an intake that pulls air from the engine bay because it looks better. BTW The closer you are to having the wheels flush with the edge of the fender, the better. So low offset/high width is the way to go if you are able.

Whose said performance has anything to do with straight line speed.

No one is being rude to you, people are just saying that going smaller is pointless which is a valid fact.
IMO auto RX8's are pointless, Mazda should not have even made them.

This is going to sound SO n00b.

but...IMO?

And another n00b thing, I haven't driven a Manual yet. It pisses me off. But my dad is getting an MT Corvette C5, so I guess i'll learn on that. Haha

IMO - In My Opinion

I don't suggest you learn in a corvette - unless your dad doesn't mind paying for repairs done to his tranny...

not doubting you in any way - but if it's the first MT you've ever driven - i would suggest learning on a different car.

Haha, I'd hate to ruin something. I guess I'll see if he'll even let me drive it. I have a good idea to MT. I dirt bike, so that gives me a good idea. I just need to get the feel for the clutch of a car, which I'm sure is a whole new world.

And I don't see what makes an Auto RX8 pointless. Yeah, it's less power and lag. Which sucks. But in traffic (which there's a lot of in SoCal) I'm SO glad I have Auto. I have no doubt my next car will be a MT, whenever that is. But, the RX8 is a car that's KNOWN for handling, which is why a lot of people buy them. In which case, AT and MT are about the same. And most sports cars have an AT option, and the RX8 isn't a "supercar" so I don't see why you'd say Mazda should of never made it.

I bought the rx8 purely for the fun to drive factor, I didn't care about speed, I didn't care about handling, I didn't even know that it takes the same amount of feet to brake 70-0 as a Carrera GT.

I bought it cause it is fun to drive, it revs high, very responsive, and puts a smile on my face.

Auto kills all of that.

Man I keep going back and forth...but I think I like this better, and I'm pretty sure it will work. Before I was looking at 18x8.5 38mm offset. Apparently the same rim comes in 18x9.5 42mm offset. I'm pretty sure this would end up pushing the wheel out the same as the first ones I was looking at, with the benefit of having a wider tire. Am I wrong in this?

Also, was thinking on 255/40r/18 or 265/40r/18 tires, not sure which would be better in this case..?

Edit: Sorry, I have to agree, auto sucks. This car already isn't the fastest straight line car, having an auto just makes it worse. Just takes a lot of the fun factor out of it :\

265's should work w/9.5's - 42 is pretty much a safe offset depending on your drop.

No drop as of yet. Do you have any idea what I would be able to get away with if I wanted to down the line with the 9.5 and 265s?

265's seem to be a good combo for a lot of people running w/9.5 wheels w/an offset around the +40's.

I can't say exactly what springs/coilovers setup will guarantee (sp) you a safe drop but most should work w/+42's

Sweet. You've eased my mind.

Now that I'm looking at tires though, Would I want 265/35r18 insterad of the 40 sidewall? Doesn't seem to be many 265s with a 40 sidewall. I understand it's a percentage of the width, correct? So a 35 sidewall on a 265 wouldn't necessarily be that much smaller than say, a 40 on a 245?
