Great found a dealer in Baltimore. I can get a 12 case of 3.5oz for $30. Im going to start small. Premix 4oz for next 2 fills, then try 5oz and 6oz.

I am going to give the dealers info to my wife so she knows where to get my birthday and Christmas gifts. Good call.

So I was able to meet an Amsoil dealer in the DC/Baltimore area.
Call him at: Doug (202)439-3122

I picked up 12 3.5oz bottles. They look like this:
I put the key-card next to it so you get a senses of how small they are.

you can get a gallon of motul 710 online for pretty cheap

What would you guys suggest using with a SOHN adapter oil wise? not to pre-mix but to use in the reservoir hooked to the SOHN

I saw someone mention this but not much input about it any thoughts guys, looks to meet all the requirements and only $27 for a gallon not too bad.

09 Premix

I was adding 2oz to a tank in my 09. I think it was overkill. I started getting a lot of missing and rough acceleration. I stopped premixing and it cleared up. I am assuming plug fouling.

I use my dealer for my oil changes and he is a BG Products distributor. BG will pay $4000 toward any internal engine failure. So I have stopped worrying about compression loss. I confirmed this with BG and the dealer.

Second, my dealer warned me about using synthetic oil, so you might reconsider using synthetic premix. He told me that Mazda told them not to use it.

Keep in mind that 2009s have 50% more oil injectors than the 2004s-2008s. I don't know what OMP injection rates the S2 has stock vs the S1, but I'd figure you have higher OMP rates anyway, so you might have up to twice the OEM oil injection that the S1 owners do. But, that would still only put you at ~4oz to a tank, which is still under what many of us do (at ~6-8oz a tank). I'd suspect that your plugs are close to the point of needing a change, and the oil just tipped them over the edge. Even 4oz isn't enough to foul healthy plugs.


Please lets not get started on syn vs non-syn here. Your last sentence is just a repetition of the same misunderstanding about Mazda's synthetic oil statement.

glad you said it... saw the thread update come in via email and was like WTF... 2oz is nothing if added to 14 US GAL of gas.

I run 7-8 oz idemitsu per fill up and every couple tanks I run straight gas just to balance things out and get me back to a good known reference point.

I use full synth. 2-stroke oil at a rate of 10,5 oz per 10 gallon..........1:120.........these are my plugs after 13.500 mls.........look like they ought to be, no reel/considerable fouling..........

Wankel aircraft engines run at a premixratio of 1:80.........
Fuel:...........unleaded gasoline / Mogas (ROZ 92) or 1:80-mixture (premix)
Lubrication:.standard-2-stroke-oil (API-TC)

I just bought an 04 6spd. Wondering which is the better option, premix or sohn? The previous owner has run pre mix in his fuel. This is my first rotary so he showed me how much 2 cycle to put on a fill up. From my calculation he suggested putting around 100ml. Now reading here that's seems little low? But The engine has been replaced by Mazda in 2011 and has 10,000km (6,000 ish miles). Now being a relatively new engine is the 4-6oz required? P.s he used amsoil interceptor.

My other option is the sohn I'm savvy enough to do the install and fab myself. But what's the comparison to pre mix benefits vs drawback?

I would say if you feel like fabbing for the adapter, go for it. I prefer to put it in the fuel, because I know it will get into the engine. Plus it's just easier. I believe my OMP Injectors are clogged, as I don't use any oil at all. Every time I check the oil, it is right where it was the last time. Since I prefer the cleaner designed to burn oil in their any way, it is of no concern to me. I simply have to be sure I always have 2 cycle oil on hand. My point being simply if your are going to go with the Sohn, make certain your oil injectors are operating properly. There was one guy on here who removed his and they were clogged pretty good. Taking them out periodically for a cleaning should probably be routine maintenance every couple years. I don't think they are very easy to remove though? I have never tried.

Just remove the UIM and can remove and clean them.

The Sohn adapter and premix address 2 different issues.
The Sohn lets you use any oil in the engine since it allows you to feed the oil nozzles with any good 2 stroke oil you can find. The limitations are the same of your stock oil injection system though... it doesn't reach the middle of the apex seals.

Premix mitigates that other issue

If you know what oil you're using and how it mixes with fuel\burns then you don't really need a sohn adapter. Premixing is a must imho, especially after seeing how clean the rotors of a premixed engine are vs those of a non premixed unit.
Oh, the seals tend to show less wear too

I had a new Rex and started premix from 6.000 mls since new. Immediately after starting my up till then regular use of engine oil of 1 ltr per 3.500-4.000 kms "stopped".
My OMP oil lines were/are definitively not clogged.
After some time I once did read an article from a rotary aviation engine pilot, reporting that with their (heavy) usual premix of 1,5 oz per gallon (manufacturers prescription) the oil level in the engine is raising after some time in such a way that he has to tap some oil time by time. Obviously a part of the 2 stroke oil gets dissolved in the 4 stroke oil when heavy premixing. Later on I did read the same reports from another rotary pilot and from some other Rex drivers. I personally have exactly the same experience with 1,1 oz per gallon pus OMP in operation; I do not have to tap but can see that the level is little varying up and down; it look likes "there is no 4 stroke oil consumption at all" which actually is a wrong understanding.

Do you often drive the car hard? How many miles has it got? What model year have you got? Was it ever reflashed?

The reason for these questions is simple: The harder you drive the car the more oil it uses. If you're driving it hard without experiencing any oil consumption the injectors may be clogged or the pump may be faulty.
Early cars didn't use enough oil so mazda cranked the rates up with a reflash.
Moreover, the shaft on the oil pumps tends to wear, becoming thinner. This means that the lowest settings tend not to work properly. It's a very rare occurrence but it happens. Manually resetting the stepper motor to avoid using the worn shaft part is a solution but i'd advise anybody to actually consider buying an used pump and replace the worn one

Actually when I drive the car, I drive it quite hard. The only time it is "relaxed" driving is if I go to my mothers home in it (129 miles one way). Around the city I regularly run the RPM's high in first and second and downshifting to 3rd at highway speeds is not uncommon. Mine is an 04, 78,000 on the body and almost 20,000 on the engine and it does have the most current flashes. When the engine was put in, I found this forum shortly after, and decided that premixing was not a bad idea. I don't ever recall adding alot of oil to the engine ever, but I do know that over the past 18,000 miles I do not use oil.

Maybe Yall are not driving the car hard enough? MOP rates are based off of load and rpm.
