Gas/Oil Premix Thread

PREMIX question.
i currently own a 2004 rx8 with 169,000km, i have started to notice that my fuel consumption is becoming increasingly worst. i have replaced the coils, plugs and wires and have no other mods to my car.
i have been reading that premixing actually will help with my gas problems, and i've never premixed before, so my question is:
1) is there any harm in starting to use a premixed formula now?
2) does it indeed help with fuel consumption
3) how do you premix correctly?
thank you

Hey guys I'm not sure if these videos have been posted in this thread, so sorry if it's a repost.
I thought it was pretty cool, something I stumbled upon.
I'm not sure if these simple experiments really say much, but technically if the protek premix is able to sustain its form without much compromise and color discoloration; then I guess you could say it would be a better lubricant because it would last longer and actually lubricate by breaking down slower until it fully combusts. Anyway, that's the science behind it at least, but it's pretty tough to simulate how to oil functions in an actual engine, which is totally different than a hot plate in a controlled environment. But none the less it's something I suppose.

Yeah. As I am watching the first video I kept thinking: "what is this proving?"
About the only thing I can see this really doing is if you keep your premix source (and/or fuel) at those temperatures. But the fuel is more or less ambient temp (warming up a bit, but no where near that temp), and if you use a SOHN adapter with a separate tank it could get a bit hotter, but still not that hot unless you mount the tank to the engine itself.
A) Those temps aren't anywhere NEAR the temps in the engine of the compression area
B) If they did duplicate the temps, then color isn't doing much. You would need to measure the lubrication ability of the oil for the next ~180 degrees of rotation, which is about 0.01 seconds at 9,000rpm
C) They need a flash burn test of atomized fuel plus atomized fuel with each 2-stroke, to see what is left behind for each.
Those videos really don't tell me anything that I can use

Yeah I pretty much felt the same way. The same thoughts crossed my mind about what exactly are they testing and what does it prove. But if you think about it, it's a much smaller scale of how well these oils take the heat. At those low temperatures (which obviously aren't engine temperatures at all) you can start to see these oils break down. Obviously the oil that broke down the least (at least as much as one can see really) is the protek. If the others started to break down earlier at such low temperatures, then maybe at extreme temperatures they wouldn't be as effective as the protek; because they break down faster. They believe if you magnified this simple test, and turned the temperatures higher the results would still be the same. At least that's what I think they're trying to get at proving anyway.
But yeah you really can't tell if they're actually breaking down much besides color discoloration and it cooking, and who knows if discoloration really means anything at all. According to them the discoloration would turn into deposits. Idk...
RIWWP wanna do a better experiment for us? Lol

Hey guys check this out. Somebody had mentioned about an echo oil found at home depot. I made a visit and found this stuff. It's actually JASO FD approved, so I thought that was pretty interesting. I haven't used it yet. It's also pretty pricey at about $8 for that bottle. But it's useful info I suppose, if you need to buy some premix locally for whatever reason. It's found in the mower and lawn equipment aisle.

I think you may want to go back and read this thread before you continue using that stuff. You might want to invest in some engine decarb as well, then run a good 2 cycle oil. If not no problem continue on.

im going to clarify something. i didnt ignore anything before my post cause i was using this stuff before i even read this thread and since im new to premixing i had no idea that it really mattered. plus a race team reccomended for me to use this stuff Motul - All Products
as they had used it in their race rotaries, so thats what kinda sold me on it.
i've now read this thread and learned more about this premixing so i will now be changing my premix but i am going to use whats left of the motul dijet.
i still want to try out some other motul 2 stroke i found that are Jaso FC/FD because i have a personal discount with motul. maybe Motul - All Products or Motul - All Products - 710 2T would be my next choice
call me stupid or w.e i dont care, im still learning about the car every day and i hope to know enough to keep it healthy and on the road as long as i can

No one is calling you stupid, and the reason I said that is because you're just stating that you use an outboard oil. You're not acknowledging the previous posts which scream don't use outboard or tcw-3 oils. The only reason is because they're not good enough. You can use whatever you want. I'm just telling you that you should use something better.

Motul - All Products - 710 2T would be my next choice
been using motul 710. 6oz/tank. no issues so far except for cost
it's JASO FC / FD

As I was reinstalling a rebuilt engine on my 04 I was testing the oil injectors and found 3 of 4 failed at 110k miles.
I cut one open to see what it looks like on the inside – crap! It was jammed with carbon and rubber barriers were torn. The rest were the same.
Engine was down on compression like most of them and wouldn’t restart when hot before teardown.
I don’t think premix would have saved it but definitely the oil injection system has failed.
I didn’t see a regular interval for replacing oil injectors in the manual but they should probably be replaced as preventative every 50k miles or so.

I know I'm gonna get a lot of people calling me an idiot because of this but I've searched and searched and I can't find my answer. To premix do I have to do anything to my rx8's omp or can I just add the oil and not worry? Also to make sure I believe the ratio is 8oz per full tank right?
