My dyno: Looking for comments, suggestions, feedback
So I finally took my vehicle in to get some dyno pulls done at Rotary reliability in santa ana, ca. Louie and his brother Joe seem like very nice guys, some nice fd project cars in the shop
Attached is my dyno sheet from one of the pulls. All the pulls were right around 173whp max power
Can I get any feedback based on my results? My car is basically bone stock, only mods are the K&N drop-in and I removed both screens + baffles from my stock airbox
Louie said he thought my upper end had some problems, he recommended replacing the stock plugs and wires. Mazsport ignition solution?
Also, maybe I would be better off if I replaced my screens in the airbox, maybe my MAF reading is a little jacked up?
Just pulling crap out of my ***, any feedback would be greatly appreciated =)

So I installed the mazsport ignition solution at work today: coils, harness, igniter, and plug wires. Original plugs are still in
Seems to run well and pull through the gears just fine, but I really didn't notice much in the way of a power boost
I have two NGK leading and two NGK trailing plugs here, maybe I should install them and get another dyno done to see if my curve looks smoother?
My vehicle dyno'd about 170whp stock, if i manage to get to 200whp with full bolt-ons will that be enough of a difference to feel anything?
just trying to get some realistic expecations
Thanks

You will most definitely feel an increase of 30 whp IF it's quick, e.g; 240 whp vs 270 whp after a dyno tune.
HOWEVER if it's a gradual thing, like your coils slowly failing over a period of 3 weeks and you lost 30 whp because of it, you might not notice.
Also your mind can be horrible at remembering exactly how fast "fast" is.

Forum kicks @ss
Hey guys just want to say thank you for the high quality of feedback and info on this forum =) Love logging onto rx8club, really appreciate the members on here. Was a mazda3club member and loved that site but rx8club is just as good if not better, some really knowledgable people here. Would not have known where to start with modding this car w/o this site
With the way fossil fuel prices are going I feel like I'm enjoying the wankel while I can, wouldn't be surprised if the renesis or the 16x is the last of the mass produced rotaries
Thanks guys!

based on what i'm hearing...... 200rwhp is possible with bolt-ons, and from what i also read stock 03-04 VIIIs do 200-205WHP......
Does that mean that a N/A Rx8 @ 200rwhp can basically keep pace with a stock Evo VIII of those years? or is there something else of importance I'm not seeing.
Other thing is, anyone out there with a 6-port AT did a dyno? or did i miss that too...

Less Weight = Better RX8
Check out my crappy Dyno result
Here is my baseline stock test. It was done on a Dynocom Dyno. I was not too happy with the results. The power registered higher in 4th gear.
2004 53k
What should I do first. Take it back to Mazda for a new engine? Does this look like a clogged cat? Let me know what you think.

Less high RPM drop off. The overall number is what it is. But I was concerned about the amount of torque drop off above 7k. Is this normal or does this indicate a clogged cat, poor ignition or a general amount of restriction.

Power!!
The one thing that concerns me is the inconsistency of your 3 runs. It looks like your power peak in one run is at 7K rpm and another it's at 8K rpm. I agree the power dropoff is pretty significant. You may have a clogged cat. The ignition coils would show some variation at the top end but not that sort of dropoff.
You'd have to ask the dealer to unbolt the cat and physically look inside to see if it's clogged.

I agree that it is possible the cat is clogged. I think I need the dealer to check it out.

Power!!
Sorry that doesn't jibe for me. I've made dyno runs in 3rd 4th and 5th and the power peak is at the same RPM. It's not a function of the gear it's a function of the motor.

RB Flash vs Cobb AP
After I get the ignition system squared away I would like to get some type of tune
The RB Flash is looking good because I live close to Racing Beat and it's inexpensive
So my question: can I expect approximately the same gains from the rb re-flash vs. flashing with the cobb AP?
Thanks

rb and ap do the same things. but the rb is a generic map while the ap can be custom made for your vehicle and your mods.
in theory they will give you similar results, but in practice, the rb one will always need more cushion for the random rx-8 that is abnormal, so it will not be optimized for your vehicle.

Thank you mysql, hear what you're saying and that does give me some more to chew on before i decide
BTW, didn't mean to mislead anyone with my last post, I have the mazsport coils, igniter, and plug wires installed and they're great very happy with them. I meant that I want to swap in some new plugs and re-dyno before I start messing around with changing the flash
