225 is pretty much the limit.
If that is what you have seen, that you hold a membership to a fairly elite club.

The car is a 2006 MT GT. The only modification from stock is a recently cleaned K&N drop-in air filter. Tires are Dunlop Winter Sports (225/45-18) on stock rims. The car has close to 42k miles on it; I got it brand new at the end of 2006. There have been no major mechanical issues with the car that I know of. I believe the car has the latest flash from the MSP16 program.

It was cold outside (low 20s), however the dyno graph states between 55-57 degrees in the garage.

01/24/2009 - St. Charles, MO - DynoJet
First run: @ 2121GMT, 55.93F, 30.06 in-Hg, Humidity: 8%, STD: 0.98,
max power = 171.87, max torque = 128.02 (4th gear)

Second run: @ 2124GMT, 57.79F, 30.07 in-Hg, Humidity: 7%, STD: 0.98,
*max power = ~169, max torque = ~121 (3rd gear)
*max hp/tq figures were cut off from the printout; these are approximate values.

Third run: @ 2126GMT, 57.81F, 30.08 in-Hg, Humidity: 7%, STD: 0.98,
max power = 170, max torque = 122.48 (3rd gear)

This was my first time running my car on a dyno. Correct me if I am wrong, but I'm under the impression that these dyno figures are on the low side of average for stock compared to others on the forum... my only excuse for this would probably be that I am still on the original spark plugs (which I plan to change out soon). Should there be any concern for this level of power output? Should I have a vested interest at this point to maybe get a compression test done?

this is my dyno of my 2004 6MT before and after the Mazdamaniac AP tune. I have the RB intake, RB flywheel, Mazsport ignition, and replaced with Reman motor 10K miles ago. I premix with Idemitsu 1/2oz per gallon.

I have previously dyno'd this car with this motor at a peak of 183whp on a different dyno without the MM AP tune. So your absolute number really depends on the set up of the dyno as much as anything else. Most NA 8's on the day below dyno'd ~171hp.

Define "tune up".

All recalls are up to date; only maintenance schedule point I ever went to the dealership for is the ~30k mile one, and only had them do the inspection stuff. All I ever really keep up on are regular oil changes (recently switched to 5w30, but my last oil change, the 'tards at the oil change place went back to 5w20). K&N drop in filter was cleaned the day before, along with the MAF sensor. I changed the tranny and rear-diff oils about 15-20k miles ago from royal purple to redline. I regularly fill up with Shell V-Power 93 octane... can't think of anything else that might be remotely relevant...

As far as the driving habits / history: I have been autocrossing for about two seasons so far, did my first PDX event last October, and I "buzz it" at *least* once a day.

EDIT: I went ahead and also ordered those wires Fluid Motorsport is selling (to go with the plugs I bought), and new coils from Rosenthal Mazda.

EDIT EDIT: oh, if you're referring to any sort of tuning going on during the dyno runs, then no; these were just pulls and nothing more.

Go back to OE Coils and you will gain back the power your are losing at the top end.

Angry

Well,
If you're complaining about 170hp, take a look at mine.. This was catless, with a K&N Drop in filter. No other mods at all. <25k miles.

I have seen plug, wire, and coil, replacements net over 20WHP on the dyno.

Al, ur scarin' me...

I think it was the coils, since then I've replaced the coils and it feels much better. Maybe I should try the plugs and wires too. Do the wires really go bad?

Dude check out the coils prob thread. There are some dyno talk in there too. Some guy did 180 something changed his wires to some ofter market ones and dynoed 200.3 on a dyno jet.
Check it out dude.
This is a good read too as to why you may have low hp numbers and may not need a $cha cha cha ching$ compression tes lol
Check this out thread out

i already changed my coils. i haven't been to the dyno since. the car runs better than it did before i changed the coils, and this spring i'm gonna change the plugs and wires.

next time i can get to a dyno on the cheap (like the last dyno day i went to) i'll post a new graph... between now and then, i'll get new plugs and wires.

Thanks for the info about the wires, I've been meaning to get new ones but that thread lit a fire under me.. time to start saving!

That was me that hit over 200 on a dyno jet. But my saga continues to be low compression. I dynoed 160 this month on a Mustang. Currently working on restoring compression, but I think I am headed for a rebuild.

Too many early miles under Mazda's feeble attempt at oiling the engine properly!
