It has nothing to do with the piping. Right now after fixing some issues I can (have only done it once or twice) pull all the way to redline and hit 7-8PSI (limited by manual boost controller) and hold boost at that psi the whole way without issue. My only issue are drivability and running rich but Kane will be here next weekend to address that. The turbo itself is the biggest factor and the intake setup.

It has a little to do with the piping...

2-2.5 out and 2.5-3"in, turbo side.

2-2.5" in and 3" out of the IC

Respectively would be the best setup. We are talking about improvements of air flow, temperatures etc etc. You wouldn't see too much WHP gains changing this out.

I am going off of optimum 20g Evo setups here considering their CID is very close to ours and turbo sizing is nearly the same.

I've always been a big **** talker of the greddy setup... who knows though Mine might be completely off and lose power.

I meany his particular issue wasn't related to the the piping. I totally agree some piping changes are needed to maximize the potential of the kit with an upgraded snail. I can't wait until we are all tuned so we can see what times we run and what WHP we hit. The first thing I want to do is hit the drag strip.

I expect to hit 230 at 30 psi on 2 apex seals.

Excellent - you obviously subcribe to the under promise and over deliver theory .

That gets a Brettspeed TICK !

Man I hope so. My car is running pretty damn good right now. She doesn't like high intake temps though so I gotta resolve that issue ASAP.

Okay so after a few days of installing this kit I'll list some of my personal gripes with it.
  1. Cutting the tab off the engine mount seems like a bad idea and not necessary if the engine mount bracket was well thought out.
  2. The compressor inlet pipe comes way to close to the front pulley
  3. The compressor inlet pipe is only MM away from touching the engine mount bracket and I don't see how it won't hit the bracket under load.
  4. The coolant hoses for the turbo are no bueno, pushing a SS line on a hose barb is just not a good idea and it would have been simple to do it properly. Just laziness on Turblown's part.
  5. One of the engine mount bracket bolts touches the turbo manifold even when fully tight, not sure what the long term effects of that will be with vibration, heat expansion, etc.
  6. The compressor outlet pipe is very close to the frame and the APV motor bracket, and so with engine movement under load this could be an issue but we shall see.
  7. The oil feed line could be a few inches longer for easier routing.

Overall, while a bitch to install and get fitted, the turbo, piping, manifold, DP, inter-cooler, and brackets all seem to fit well so I give Turblown props for the fab work on that. This is definitely not an install for the inexperienced or unprepared. For the price of the kit I just think more thought into the finer details is needed. The coolant lines are a mess and while the engine mount bracket seems to function it is still a clusterfuck IMO.

That is all for now, I will give another review when everything is finished.

I know piping has nothing to do with boost falling off... and undersided turbo does... I mainly meant if the piping was too small diameter to flow enough for those HP numbers.... Anyways, thanks for the answers guys; I'm going to be keeping my eyes on the site and see how the sarx crew builds turn out

A couple more things we realized
  1. There is only one vacuum nipple on the intake pipe. So jet air hose or OMP? Also, you must run a catch can I guess because there is no third nipple for the vacuum hose that runs to the oil filler neck.
  2. Running a SOHN adapter is impossible due to the compressor outlet pipe location (Hoss-05 wasn't planning on running the SOHN)

So what you are saying is it would be a better idea to cut and box the frame it if you want a proper low mount setup.

Turbo intake should be omp, jet air should go to boosted side. Oil fill can survive with just a filter or T the turbo intake

the oil fill will be just fine going to my catch can. Not worried there. So where do I plumb in the Jet air....?

No when I say intake I mean Turbo Intake with a check valve, you can also plumb it into the charge pipe if you want, but I recall Brettus having some concern over doing it that way

That would help a lot.

Exactly. My jet air is run to my intake (pre turbo to the compressor inlet, pipe with the filter on it ) and has a check valve in the line. My OMP feed is also ran to the intake tube (pre turbo). I know people run it to the C6 pipe (pipe before the TB) but I never liked the idea of that hose seeing full boost and then Brettus commented on some issues with doing it that way as well.

Seriously... I see no other alternative, when I rebuild my engine next I am going to get that fabricator to stop by and do some work.

LOL at Shady's edit, it can really be done either way though

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/greddy-turbo-correct-connection-vacuum-hoses-dont-stuff-up-211884/

I just remember Brettus posting something about the other way that he was concerned with other than the line seeing boost, maybe he'll chime in here

Greddy turbo - correct connection of vacuum hoses - don't stuff this up!!!!!!!!!!!!! - RX8Club.com

It would make sense to have all the line that saw vacuum before see vacuum again. I believe that is how the turblown setup is, but I'm not sure.

Yeah I have big plans for the next time I remove my engine. Hopefully it's not soon, I wanna finish the looks of my 8 before then.

This kit has potential but there needs to be some fixes and full disclosure instead of the "well this kit is custom so deal with it" bullshit. If these issues are corrected the kit has great potential. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Hoss will be in the 370WHP range after tuning.
