slash128's Top Mount Build
EDIT: looking at a recent video, a few tune iterations back, boost was 5psi @ 5K, 11psi @ 6K, 13psi @ 7K, 15psi @ 7.5K and 14psi @ 8K. I believe the boost gauge lags a bit because the AFR gauge definitely lags compared to logged AFR vs RPM. Now, after a few more tune iterations which has me peaking at 17psi, the boost is probably in the 7-8psi range @ 5K. It is all guesstimate since I don't currently have a way to log.

A few things that perhaps contributed to the actual dyno being higher than VD: VD only accounts for wheel height, not width. I'm running 275s on the rear. Bigger contact patch. Fresh tranny and diff oil change. I was surprised how much different it felt after the change. Fresh coils (OEM from eBay), plugs(stock trailing, gapped to 0.030", FD trailing in the leading) and wires (NGK). AFR was a bit leaner on the dyno, reading at the tailpipe, so not sure how much leaner. Added up these things could have contributed quite a bit.

Correct, no boost controller. I had a TorboSX HP MBC, but found I got better performance with just 15lbs of spring and no BC. I am leaving it where it is for daily, don't feel like swapping springs. Technically I do have a boost controller, the gas pedal. I just go easy for the most part, then punch it when I want to put a smile on my face
Cheers
Sorry I didn't stay under 374... Seeing it peak @ 17 typically. Can't log boost so hard to tell what the boost curve looks like. Also, no boost controller. I have a suspicion that the AFR spike at the end was due to the MAF pegged at 5V. I've been seeing that pretty consistently in 2'nd and 3'rd. Dyno was in 4'th. MAF is now the current barrier, but I'm happy... For now...

What's the running pool on the life expectancy of this engine? Do we vote in miles, days, or hours?
If I'm not stressed about it I don't see why others should be, not their $$$... Additional gauges and logging capability will likely come over time. Besides, it's not like I run around town all day at 17psi. For the most part it is driven like an N/A car...I like to experiment and it seems to have paid off...

It's just hard for people to accept that you are making this kind of power on this setup and have not grenaded your engine. Only time will tell and I agree, if you drive a turbo RX-8 and are scared of an engine rebuild then you should probably buy an EVO or something else.

I also agree 9k, if you drive a turbo RX-8, you should be prepared for a motor replacement. I had a spare motor "on deck" when I had my turbo RX-8, but fortunately never needed it before I sold the car.
Edit: Also I'd agree, an Evo is an excellent choice.
I will be flabbergasted if the engine doesn't go up like Chernobyl in an extremely short period of time, but slash is right, its not my $$$ and I couldn't care less how someone chooses to spend theirs. People think I'm crazy too for the money I have in my track car.

Yup, and my previous compliment on the power numbers was meant with no sarcasm as well. Despite what some people may think, I still have a soft spot in my heart for RX-8s. I found a platform that speaks to me more, but I definitely wish you the best with your car.

@ blackenedwings: At one point your tag line was "Life begins @ 10 psi" and this was my inspiration for cranking up the boost, so thank you
I know it now says 30 psi, but I won't be going there with my RX8!

The numbers I got on this dyno were down (in real terms)on what I achieved on the local (optimistic) dyno. If I dynoed on my local one I have no doubt I'd be up close to 400.
However, I'll hang my hat on 350+whp for my setup all day everyday .
have you guys thought to consider that maybe the renesis isn't completely at fault? but rather poor tuning theory?
I think we have made more progress now that certain members have quite leading us astray while others are encouraging.

I don't think we will ever achieve what the rx7 guys do . You only have to look at their exhaust ports to see why we have such a big handicap . But yeah ... I think there is an element of truth in that statement.
Looks like everything except the hi-res cockpit video has finished uploading. It's 1G in size, could still be awhile. There is a lo-res version. You can view it with VLC player. It's all I'm the Dyno Day folder here:
