slash128's Top Mount Build
Been running 15psi since last summer. Went to 17 this spring. Don't know the root cause yet. Plenty of N/A motors have suffered low compression and plenty of boosted cars have suffered worse fates with half the boost

Understandable but at the hp your wanting it's the only wise choice unless you just like to rebuild your engine every couple of months.

.
I agree it would probably be the better way to go, and I would actually like it. I just need to do a ton of research. Also, I would like to open up this engine to see what the failure was. It wasn't an obvious bang and it died so I'm curious, perhaps it was simply a poorly assembled reman that might have just as well gone weak N/A.
You have to go thru a few rennies before you give up. There are a few things you can do to increase longevity for the next round. If we wanted easy we would have bought fast cars from the get go
I'm going to resist the urge to say the first thing that comes into my head .
If you are going for a rebuild :
Dowells
Deep apexs
Then :
Water/Meth
Racing plugs
Then :
Dyno tune with knock detection
Then :
forget about REW and enjoy Reliable renesis power
IMHO

I'm on the fence. Do I tear into it now or wait for winter? I can still drive it, just idles like crap. But I imagine it will go down(hill) fast...
So, when you say racing plugs you mean?

I fitted 10.5s to leading and 11.5s to trailing . Yet to test on dyno .
Thanks for the advice! There's the hard part, it's not a failure that has me grounded, so it's a little hard for me to bite the bullet and tear into it, tho I know it's what ultimately needs to happen. I drove it today and it got around fine, but idle seems to be getting worse. On the flip side, I am looking forward to see what the tear down reveals. I need some gear like a hoist and stand, etc. Working on the list and then I'll see about getting started...
Unfortunately it's just the precursor for the obvious, once the flame front starts jumping across the apex seal the inevitable is just a matter of time
edit: guess I missed your post above, might be a good time to freshen up that engine bay too
