I rest the ecu again. seems to be holding idle now and no white smoke. WEIRDNESS i tell u.

BTW does anyone have EFIdude software. I would like to email the files to someone if they would be welling to take a look at them for me. Short file of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear pulls. I'm looking at the logs and I'm seein AFR spikes of 20.26 when I'm coming of the gas and slowing down.

Counter intuitive I know..... but a post compressor vacuum leak will often cause air to escape post MAF due to intake timing and compressor airflow at low RPM idle. It will manifest itself as a high negative fuel trim at idle. If idle g/sec is close to 5, injector bank 1 hasn't been messed with and fuel trims are negative, check for vacuum / boost leaks.

Not so much counter-intuitive as it is terminology. Post-compressor is a boost leak and pre-compressor is a vacuum leak is all. It's a matter of air entering or escaping as you mentioned.

Valid point. Most people think of a boost leak as something that happens in boost only, and therefore lowers power. So I've gotten used to describing vacuum leaks as occurring when the motor is in vacuum.

Well there must not be a vacuum if air is escaping outward unless they have an intake manifold that is capable of defying the laws of basic physics

Kane I am trying to wrap my head around what you are saying.....
At idle , of course , I am not "in boost" and I show 20 inches of vacuum. 7-8 grams per sec at 1.2K idle.
If I had a leak post compressor wouldnt that allow air to enter rather than escape? After all the engine is in vacuum??
Now if I have a leak within the bypass valve/supercharger itself--i can kinda see what you are saying--but otherwise--wouldnt it still be a vacuum leak?

Head hurts--need diet coke quickly....

It depends where the leak is, that's the short answer.

Don't assume a high negative fuel trim cannot mean a vacuum leak, it can. If your airflow numbers are normal, injectors are good (and no adjustments made to them in the Cobb), then check for a vacuum leak.

My problem: the car when warm dies at red lights, is not holding idle. Theirs a bit of white smoke and its back fireing alot.

When I screwed the plugs in I did till they were snug and I heard the crush washer. Wires are all snug and tight to their connectors. Coils are nice and snug too. I marked all the plugs and wires t1, l1, t2, l2 when I did the install. I'm lost....
I remember when I was using the EFI dude maps that the car would die with the idle set below 1k rpms. Pettit sent me a new map with the idle set @1100 and the problem was solved.

This was circa 2006/7 so no flaming please. I realize we have come a long way since then.

Its ALIVE!!

Figured out what was wrong with the car. Now i'm planning on sending it to Pettit for a low compression motor.

The car has been sitting for allmost three years. I put some octane boost and lucas injector cleaner in with a fresh tank. I have been driving it around the neighborhood with no issues.

It is doing this with the front O2 sensor disconnected while I wait for the new one from Mazmart. I have been informed that at worst it will just run the car very rich.

I am thinking about getting the combo waterpump/thermostat from Mazmart. Any thoughts on this? I put @50k boosted miles on the car with the stock system and never had any trouble. That includes hot, humid summers in AL, FL, and NC.

I have an AEM water/meth injector lying around that i'm thinking about having Cam put on while he has the car. What is the price on methonal these days? I have a couple of 10gal drums. Anyone know how long that will last?

What is the consensus on motor/tranny/blower oil these days?

Got a BMW 328 as the daily driver now. Its amazing how soft and sterile the 8 can make that car feel just tooting around the neighborhood

Hey as a bit of further positive feedback, we just did an airfield day in the UK (pics on the Pettit facebook page )

and on the short sprint course a Pettit charged RX8 crushed everyone completely, with the only sub 50 second time of the day. In fact Scott got a 48 second time which is really good. I have done the course many times and 50-55 is very good, with most getting between 55-65. I have only ever seen 2 or 3 other cars do under 50 seconds, and they have to be awesome and well driven. Considering on this day there was a bunch of TVRs and a couple of BMW M cars plus 2 Noble M12s there was some serious metal there that day too!

Outside of enthusiasts Mazda doesn't get enough credit for their amazing chassis work. The low center of gravity with the rotary helps, but they have to know what they are doing right?

Did Pettit ever start making a wider pulley/belt combo, and/or a cogged setup?

I have been talking Cam's ear off and I don't want to call him again with just the one question

no i think you would have to get someone to make a custom one. as the kits ran out, there was no imperative to do further work on them (I think)

How's everyone doin'? Was researching the best methods to paint and stencil my Brembo's and it brought me back here? Thought I stop in and see what's going on. Denny, I can't believe you're still "tinkering." I figured that you'd have it perfected by now!
