Yeah, back to OEM and no misfires. I took her up to 13psi.

LS2 coils (not MazSport coils, FYI) were misfiring only in boost, around 6500+. It was usually pretty bad, sometimes enough I couldn't accelerate. AFR's were fine (11.2).

I turned off my water/meth to make sure I wasn't drownding combustion. Still misfire.

I re-crimped my spark plug wires and they "clicked" when going on the LS2 terminal.

I have the AP, stock dwell settings for both setups.

All fired properly with a timing light.

I don't want to "give up" on the LS2 coils, I still think they could work. Part of me wonders if they are mounted too close together and thus effecting each other. On the trucks these things are actually used on they are coil-on-plug and mounted on valve covers, a good 4 inches apart.

Probably the oddest thing is the only time they didn't misfire was the one the dyno, after re-sizing my coil-side terminals.....Next day, changed nothing, misfire.

No - was not sure how to adjust the stock tables at that time . I knew there were issues with int x set on 2.0ms but Scott had said the stock tables on the OEM pcm were ok so I left them . The fact that the oem number appeared higher than 3.5ms threw me as well because I would not have thought too much dwell would be a problem ......

see stock table below - what number should be put in there - 350 for all cells ?

^Your Y axis is battery voltage, right?

When are you getting misfires?

I was told you make the 4.45 cells to 3.50 (so 8,000 rpm).

yes -voltage .
Did Scott tell you that ? What about the other cells - i got misfires at around 7000 - 7500 . Never went above that at the time due to the issue

Information kinda passed around from Scott I guess. Where to actually adjust the dwell timing was the issue I had and why I never tried it.

Everyone would just say "set it to 3.5ms" like it's a constant number, but it isn't.

the yukons/and or ls2 coils need the connectors designed for them--a click heard doesnt guarantee a good connection.. been there done that. get the moroso boots and wires too.The connectors are inexpensive and you are right --the coils shouldnt be touching each other--nor the wires.

Just found this - now if we could only find the table for the Bosch coils .....

Dwell Time Adjustment
Up to Glossary
This Definition applies to: Any version.

The dwell time is the time (in milliseconds) used to charge the ignition coil(s). The ideal dwell time is highly dependent on the coil. Different coils require a dwell time of anywhere between 1.5 to 7.0ms (at normal operating voltage). If the dwell time is set too low then the ignition energy will be too low and a miss-fire may result. If the dwell time is set too high, the coil and/or igniter will get too hot and may be damaged.

To complicate matters, the dwell time must be increased when the system voltage is low in order for the coil to be charged to the same level. Link ECUs have a dwell table to allow the optimum dwell time to be set for different system voltages.

Information on optimum dwell times for a range of common coils are available from your Link dealer.

Note: Using excessive dwell time will not necessarily result in more ignition energy

I'm just going to blurt out some random thoughts I have been having here

Why has it been so difficult to get a reliable upgrade Coils for our cars ........ ?

Mazsport designed a system that seemed to work but later many users had issues . From what I understand users who had the interceptor x AND set thier dwell time to 3.5ms had a good run . Users who still had the stock pcm were intially told that the problem was only when people with the X set Dwell to 2.0ms and the stock dwell settings were OK .

BUT : the stock dwell settings are WAY more than that (over 4 times that at low rpm) - see table above .
These excessive dwell times on stock pcm equipped cars may have caused overheating of the ignitor or the coils or both hence the issues we hear about today . I really don't buy the "you need a good earth" line .

I think the dwell time has been the issue all along .

Probably talking outta my *** here but it seems to make sense to me anyway .

That coil is currently used in many other conversions and with a LOT of success. Further, there are a few aftermarket EMS companies who suggest the use of said coil.
I'm happily boosting with stockers ATM so there is no hysteria from me -just trying to make sense of it all .
Agree you need a good ground but don't agree that that is the issue most are seeing with these coils .
BTW this is the Mazsport thread and I have made no mention of your coils .

interesting . I know Danobre has had a good run with them - but he runs the int x at 3.5ms . I would love to know if ANYONE runing at 3.5ms has had the issues others have had ?

The INTx and the Mazsport Coil kit worked well for me..but the Microtech ignitor box is a poorly designed piece of **** ( from an electronics standpoint). If the ground is poor it blows the ignitors all to ****......so stupid

I never used the coils kit with the stock dwell signal...always the INTx signal that was set to 3.5 - 4.0ms...and it worked good.

For that matter though..I am running the LS2 coils with the Haltech E8 setup I am using now

My point was that I was not trying to get at you or your product - I was mainly talking about the Mazsport coils and speculating as to why a lot of people had had issues .

well the fix has seemed to always be - swap them out .
If some other fix has been found and proven to work I probably missed it as I have not been into this thread for a while ....

My Mazsport coils are perfect - never had issues, but then again, I'm NA with a Jeff AP tune for them. My decision to swap back to the OEM coils is not issue related. I would recommend mine for a similar setup car. As soon as I have my map altered back to standard dwell settings, I'm placing eh kit up for sale. It will be priced to move since I need the $$ for another project.
