I completely agree here Brett, many tuners miss this.

The problem with starting with a high pressure spring is you cannot accurately tune the boost curve on the way to your target boost level.

In other words when a customer brings a car to the shop and says "I want it tuned at 15 psi" sure, no problem. The issue is the turbo doesn't spool from 0 instantly to 15psi so every time your on the way to the 15psi target the boost builds through 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14 then to 15psi.

There very well may be lean (or rich) spots along the way at 6 or 8psi for instance and it runs through that part of the window every time to the target boost. Kind of death by a thousand cuts if you will. Personally, I have always found the best results (read engine life) is to start off low, make a pull and analyze the log. Review and verify the results are the desired results then turn on the boost controller and begin slowly turning it up and repeating the process. It does take longer but makes for a much more solid tune in the long run.

"To get that back again in a more controlled fashion you need to adjust the "start boost" setting . This is the setting that keeps the WG shut right up until just before you hit target boost."

Exactly, just use caution and not set it too close to the target or it will overboost 1-2 psi momentarily and then drop back to the desired target. This also can change with ambient temperature flucuations so tuning just above where you will normally run adds a safety buffer.

I took your guys advice to heart. I pulled the wastegate to switch out for a lower spring rate, different port setup and different valve seat.

For ***** and giggles I thought i would check the function and found the gate to not be working properly and it had a few other issues. Luckily I have a bunch of extra wastegate parts laying around due to some issues with shipping and poor quality of brass nipples (don't ask not sexual).

When i switched springs i also changed to the recommended port for external boost control (6.3psi with the small spring). This wastegate is really very different than most. It has changeable valve seats used for flow control, the large being 46mm the small being 36mm. I figured with the smaller spring i would want the smaller valve seat to promote quick spool up. I also added a hair of preload to the gate control valve. I will reset the start boost function at 5.5psi and adjust my limits on the boost cut. I fully expect to be almost pig rich everywhere but light boost now. Will see how the logs look.

I'll get it bolted back up tomorrow and take her for a spin in the evening. 9krpmrx8 may be coming over so we will get video if that happens.

I've found the preload spring only makes a 1.5 psi differance from none to full setting.

Are you still running a bridgeported engine ? I'm thinking of doing it and so any insights you can give me would be great.

Hoss just had a baby boy and is working out of town right now so his life is a bit hectic at the moment so we haven't been able to do much we . His Bridgeport was DOA thanks to dipshit scumbag Brian D. Cain and He never got any money back so he is running a standard Mazda reman right now.

Do you know if it was just the secondaries that were bridged ?

It was bridged in an odd way incorporating both the housings and Irons. Also i'm excited to try this. Release Notice: Eugene 1.1.3

I think that's the normal way to bridge. You notch the housing in order to increase and smooth airflow

I downloaded Eugene to see how adaptronic worked. I'm amazed. The built in safety features are awesome as well. I can't wait to get my build underway.

I used Eugene and had issues. Just updated and am using a new laptop. had to replace the battery. I found some very incorrect ignition settings i was using from the adaptronic forum. Hope to get it back on the road soon.

No plans to sell, car is not going anywhere. currently runs and starts great. feels awesome to 12 psi. need to work on some transitional tuning i'm having issues with. project has taken a back seat to BMW and new kid and such.
