Hoss -05's build thread

Hoss -05's build thread.

This is the build thread for my 2005 RX-8.

My car is a 2005 with a little over 60k (Raul). I am on my Third engine all mazda remans. The current engine has less then 10k miles however a new one is being built. I would also like to thank Grungepup and Cornholio for there help and knowledge.

Below you will find in a very unorganized fashion the parts going into the build. Most of the factory sensors and ancillary engine components like the starter, ac pump and alternator are being replaced with new denso units.

Meah... body kits are not really my thing. I tried to order a Carbon fiber chargespeed lip kit twice but the vendor was acting all sorts of shady so I pulled out of that transaction.

Ha Ha yeah just saw that. Fixed now.

Thanks guys... i am very excited for this build as well. I want to really do things the right way.

On another note I would also like to thank Grungepup. He has helped me a ton as well. I really could not have even start this build if it were not for Him and 9k.

Stance have good stuff. but if you're really after "performance" you should go for "at least" KW's Variant 3

Anyway ... most important ...

Nope stock stance spring rates for now. Ill bump up the spring rates if need be later. I am fairly sure I will be happy with the suspension for awhile. At this moment I do not need separately adjustable rebound and compression. Just more set up time that way and I really want to get Raul focused as quick as I can.

So a question. I really think I should get my injectors serviced but do I need more flow? I Thought about doing the KG parts mod and service but am wondering if it would be to much flow.

They can clean and flow match them, without making them drastically larger.

Okay, so I went to change the tranny fluid to Redline MT-90 and found this Looks like someone has been in there before. The gasket was trashed but nothing a little Loctite RTV didn't fix Raul shifts very smooth now

Was there any noticeable issues with shifting as a result of the gasket? Wonder how that happened... even if someone was working on it before, I cant see how they would make a mistake like that without realizing it.

Yes there was a noticeable difference, I actually changed it because going from my car to his car, I noticed the shifting was weird and making some noises. I am pretty sure it was from changing the fluid and not from fixing the gasket though. His old fluid actually looked pretty clean for 64,000 miles but the shifter was a little noisy and clunky. We will be doing the clutch soon as well.

I never really felt my shifter had a problem. It always had sounded a little different then most of the other 8s I have driven or rode in. I can not really say it had a different feel in the shift action though.

I ordered my wide band o2 and data logging cable last night. I would like to pick up the Re-Medy thermostat and water pump. Any of the the FI guys still running with the stock radiator or think I would have need to change it out?

Yeah not so much the "feel" per say but whining noise and clunking sound definitely. With the new motor mounts and clutch I think all related vibration and noise will be not existent. The car is driving just fine BTW. It is at the bodyshop now getting some minor blemishes fixed that grungepup and I found. Updates to follow.

next up after the body shop is wheel, tires, rotors, pads, SS brake lines, and Motul Brake fluid

Yeah he really needs new motor mounts.

The Clutch, sways, end links, coilovers O2 and data logging cable should all be shipped in this week as well...

The two things im most excited to see, The rims finally go on and pics of this crazy clutch set up.

Glad to hear he is back in the shop 9k. Is it still just those two issues?

Things are going good with tubing champ and I am sure we will get the SC unit shipped very soon!

most run the stock rad. which is fine for street use . If you start giving it a serious hard time you will need to do something extra thaough . A 2nd auxillary radiator seems to be the cheapest/most effective option .

BTW - are you planning to run the AP or the Hymee PT ?
