The EPS is a pain.
There is a tab on the harness that you have to press in.
Are you doing this from under the car? Its easier that way.

 

yea get the car in the air. its right next to the main pulley. Its hard at first just keep trying. you seriously don't want to spend $275 just becuase you couldn't disconnect that.

 

Unless u have child sized hands there is no way to reach from under the car

 

I'm far from having a child-size hand and can do it, stop making excuses.

Im not making excuses haha...the guy who made this thread said the same thing! Its true..i just tried...its all good...i cant fight with this all night...just thought i could do it myself.

 

Just because someone else can't do it, doesn't mean you can't.
I can barely palm a basketball and can do this.
Its not comfortable because you have to contort your arm a little, but you CAN do it.
Just try it... could save you a ton of cash.
And yes, it can take 5-10 minutes of cursing to get it off.

Well i could get to it fine that wasnt really the problem but the clip to disconnect it is on the bottom so yes going from the bottom would be easier...but i let out a few choice words and pulled as hard as i could while pushing the tab and it finally popped off....now the waiting game to get to see the HUGE and i mean HUGE (cuz my car has GOT to be full of carbon) cloud of smoke

 

Just make sure the car isn't in a garage when you do the smoke show
Or at least move/push it so the back end is outside the garage.

 

HAHA yes the back end is well outside the garage...i live in a neighborhood of 3500 houses...so i waited til night to do it...at least i was respectful i suppose

 

HMMMM not much smoke at all....very odd....oh well i could def smell the bad smell coming out...car runs like crap thought! I think this is normal after doing this at first though.

 

Not much smoke usually means that there wasn't a lot of build-up (if you did everything correctly)

 

In the future, it might actually be easier to remove the ESP sensor to disconnect it. IIRC it's one, fairly easy to get at bolt holding the thing on.

 

I can reach it from the bottom, its just that my arms are too big and there is not enough room for me to disconnect it.

so I just did it from the above, piece of cake.

 

Ok so today car still not idling very well/ trying to stall even after doing this cleaning. Could it be the CAT? I may just need to go down there and ask them to check it out. Those are covered for 80k miles if im not mistaken? If i had a SSV stuck wouldnt that throw a code?

 

Yes, a stuck SSV throws the P2070 code.

 

Ok well i just did the MAF sensor clean altho i do not think that alone could be causing rough idle/stall problems...it seems like either i have a CAT problem or DUM DUM DUM it might be time for a compression test YIKES!

 

how would you know to use this product? does the car really run better and idle smoother?Does mazda recommend this every 50k or 100k???

I passed 80K on the original engine! w00t w00t All my decarbing seemed to give it more life. But it will get yanked this winter when I start my project.

 

Great News, what is your de-carb procedure (Seafoam?) how often?

 

Im going to do this tomorrow, however when i seafoam i simply warm the car up and then remove the two plugs and while the engine is running suck in about a 1/2 cup and then turn the car off and let it sit for about 15 minutes before starting the car back up. May not be as effective but it definitely gets the job done.
