i am the 3rd owner of my 8 and i just did the cleaning with Seafoam.....holy sh%t.....there were 3 kids in my yard and they ran all over the place......smoke was everywhere......filled my garage completely.....look like a f ing haunted house in there.......my 8 must have never been decarbed before.......it worked great.....let the oil get sucked back in and its good 2 go......thanx

 

just went out 4 a drive.....car felt alot smoother.....the rought idle i had is gone.....this process really worked for my 8.......simple and not real time consuming.....thanx again for the DIY......

and ps......no CEL light

 

I'm plannin on doing this procedure before I install me new plugs,coils and wires but I'm so confused from seeing different DIY's.....Did any of you get 2 cycle oil(or regular motor oil as the Mazda TSB shows) into the vaccum ports before or after getting the engine cleaner (seafoam or mazda zoom cleaner) in there ??

it is recommended to have some fresh oil vacuumed in because the seafoam tends to be aggressive and will thin/strip the film of oil in the motor

 

So would it be best to vaccum in the oil before u vaccum in the engine cleaner(as shown in the mazda TSB) or after like shown in that DIY ? Thanks

lol Honestly? ehh... It might've been wrong for me to do it this way... But I just did it based on time and ignored however much actually got sucked in. From the cranking for 10 seconds of the seafoam, I used a whole can of seafoam, maybe a half-ounce was left over, so I just chugged that into the gas tank. It was crank while connected to front nipple for 10 seconds then wait at least 30 then crank again for 10 seconds again. Then do the same thing on the back nipple, so a total of four 'suctions'. Then same thing with the 2-cycle; crank for 5 seconds on front nipple then wait at least 30 seconds then crank another 5, and repeat on back nipple. So again, I pretty much ignored the volumes that were sucked in and did it based on time. Either way, it worked out, like a lot of others have said, I don't have a rough idle anymore and for some reason, even the transmission is shifting so much easier and smoother, I dunno why that was affected, but I won't complain.

Oh yeah and having new spark plugs and ignition wires really helps too. lol Although I did the cleaning after I changed them, so it improved again after changing plugs and cables. lol I won't complain, so far, so good. Even my mileage seemed to take a turn for the better, I put in 3.862 gallons of gas this last time that I was pretty much empty, and the trip meter says I've gone bout 69.X miles since then, and the low fuel light hasn't turned on yet. I know I know, tsk tsk for me letting the gas get so low... But it's all good.

I'm about to do the clean engine procedure using SeaFoam next week-end.

I also need to change the spark plugs and clean the air filter.

Is a good idea to change the sparks and clean the filter while the cleaning solution is sitting out?

Should I change the sparks before cleaning the engine? Any particular order?

You should have seen all the White Smoke - Stupid me - it was hot out so i had all the windows down and roof open! couldnt see the hand in front of my face a a bit. HAHA

While waiting for it to soak in - 1 1/2 hours - I cleaned the MAF and disconnected the battery and cleaned up the connections to a shine! Oh - also took a look at the SSV - it was in the open position. Long screwdriver and its free and doesnt seem to be a problem. Yesterday I got a CEL errror - rear O2 sensor - which is what started me down this road in the first place.

Okay - so hear is the problem.....

After the cleaning car started fine - warmed it up - then blew it out to 6k a few times. Now it will not idle - runs great - no power problems - just will not idle.

Could this be because I disconnected the battery and it needs to reset itself over time? I went for a 20 mile ride - still stalling.

Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

 

is your MAF hooked back up or damaged from cleaning...

 

MAF is in place. I was extremely careful to use a contact cleaner spray and did not even touch the MAF.

 

A proper running rx-8 will NOT have issue after the battery has been pulled.

just give it about 2-3 drive cycle and see what happens.

drive cycle takes couple of days to complete. so just wait.

 

Will update after I drive it for a few days.

 

Okay - still will not idle and its driving me nuts. I am noticing that my Battery is really low on power after the Carbon Clean. Would a drained battery effect the car idling?? Tried charging it up and driving alot this weekend but it is still weak.

I dont think it should effect idle at all once its running - but you experts would know best.

Could be an issue with the alternator. Weak power will make the ignition system weaker. Are you noticing lights dimming or anything like that? Like if you rev the engine with the dome light on, does it get brighter?

 

Maybe reaching a little here, but: Bad ground some place? Caused by something disconnected/loosened during the cleaning?

 

The saga comes to an end -

I was stuck in traffic for hours today - quite a feat to keep engine from cutting out in stop and go traffic. The battery is definitely weak when starting - putting in a new one tomorrow.

I decided to clear the ecm - Acc and break pedal 20 or so times. I did this in the morning. Pulling into Pepboys after a long day to get a new air filter (just because at this point I will do anything) and when i take my foot off the gas the damn car idles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All i could do was laugh my *** off.

I am a true believer now - run the car for four days - and throw yourself into traffic for a while and she learns!!!

So - I was able to do the carbon clean, MAF Clean, lubricate the external of the SSV - and I will tell you she has come back to life. Sheis running smoother then she has in a long time!

Now if I could just figure out why my front five speakers stopped working but my rear two still work we will be perfect once again!
