lol, good luck with that. The fact that proposals are making it out like this clearly demonstrates a lack of technical understanding and/or oversight. I'm not sure if there aren't enough competent applicants or whether people are being chosen on some other factor than their technical strengths

OK, need some info and I've searched and read all of this I can. I have an '04 6spd and I am interested in running some local STX events on the cheap. I've been out of autocross for about 3 years and last year I ran a Miata with a friend at the Peru Tour and realized how much I miss it. Previously I was nationally competitive in a DS Mazdaspeed Protege.
Here is my question:
Will 245/40/18 tires fit on stock wheels w/o rubbing?
What is the street tire RX-8 owners prefer?
I've noticed a lot of people are going 17", but I have an 18 month old child that takes all my money now, so I was hoping just to mount some street tires and have fun. Maybe hit a tour?
Thanks!

What is the street tire RX-8 owners prefer? There are 3 popular one's Dunlop Z1 Star Spec, Yokohama Advan AD08, and Bridgestone RE-11. Dunlops are cheapest.

Maybe hit a tour? 17" wheels and tires are much cheaper and you get a gearing increase. The RPF-1 rims are pretty cheap and you pay for them in the cost savings on 2 sets of tires.
Thanks!

I don't plan on prepping anymore, if I want to be competitive, I'll run my friend's max prepped Miata, I just want to get street tires and not have to change them at events. I completely understand the expense of prepping ST cars, that's why I used to run stock, and that still required race tires, extra wheels. I just want to show up and run for fun.

Cindy, 245/40/18 would be the size you'd want. And yes, they fit just fine on the stock 18x8" wheels w/o any rubbing.
Agreed on those two tires, however, if she just wants to show up and drive (and will use these autocross tires on the street), I say go for the Dunlop Z1 Star Specs. Great in the wet and dry. The Hankook RS-3's are great in the dry, but only so-so in the wet.

Thanks! I will be driving these tires all summer, change them in winter. And I do drive my baby in the car, so wet traction is important. I was leaning towards Dunlop or Bridgestone. Dunlop is probably more affordable.

Do you plan to do any national events in the car? Once you source a car, I'll be interested in following your SP build on your blog. Good luck!
Given those constraints, definitely go with the Dunlops. Good luck!

Maybe not at first as it'll take some time to tune in suspension settings since I'm going a bit of a different route this time, and will be my first time on R comps too, you know? But probably more towards the middle of the year I'd really like to. We'll have to see! Current specs I have in mind are posted on the blog under project 2 - Serenity if anyone is curious.

I'm at 2785# with a full size Optima deep cycle battery, factory & aftermarket aero/appearance bodywork etc.
dropping all of the body work back to stripped Base trim is about 25#, switching to a high capacity Li battery saves 45#, replacing steel shock mounts with Al is several #, lighter wheel/tire package is about 8#, lighter but less durable muffler packing is several #, almost there .... every last legal ounce is coming out

Managed to drop off about 65 lbs total so far with a few more things left to do. Not sure that it will break 2700# now. The full size battery setup weighed less than the manufacturers spec, so I only saved 38# rather than 45#, leaving me another 7 lbs to make up else where. Think I will only get another 10 lbs or so which would leave me near 2715# on a low tank ....

I know Finish Line Performance (Rosenthal Mazda) only sells Factory parts & accessories and the Mazdaspeed wing is listed on their site:

(RX-8 -> Accessories -> Mazdaspeed -> Mazdaspeed Spoiler)

^Thanks Chike, I might pick one up if I can find one used. Not trying to pay more for one than I did for my APR wing.
On another note, what pressures would you guys recommend starting out with on some 295 Hoosiers on 18x9.5's? I've raced on Hoosiers before but never messed with pressures or owned a pair.
