255/40-17 Hankook RS3s are cheap and perform at the top of the class. Only downside is that in my experience, on the Packwood surface (which is asphalt) they don't work well below 55 degrees or so. Once you get some heat into them they will work, but at lower temps it helps to have a co-driver or blankets.

Rims? Easy choice is Enkie RPF1s 17x9.

A lot of people run RPF1. They are light and affordable. Tires very though. There are a few good ones that have been stated before. Dunlop Direzza Star Specs, Khumo XS, Hankook RS3s.

Super, thanks for the help on the wheels and even tires. Any reason for suggesting 255's vs 265's.

Now I am confused. WOuldn't this allow the Stainless Steel lines:

14.6 BRAKES
A. Cross drilled and/or slotted brake rotors may be fitted (same size/
type/material as standard) provided all such voids are within the disc
area, and comprise no more than 10% of that area.
B. Brake lines may be substituted with alternate DOT approved flexible
brake lines.

yeah, that too, either one

the one downfall to the 17 x 9 RPF1s is that they won't clear aftermarket brake calipers

judging from your sig WTBRotary, you're gonna need to remove a few mods in order to run STX...your current mods put you in B Street Prepared

265/40-17 will only hurt your acceleration (added weight and larger radius), give slower transitional response (taller sidewall) without giving much, if any, additional lateral grip.

SP and stock class lettering are not related. BSP is correct for rx8s... there is/was a proposal to move the 8 to CSP, but it's not classed there this year.

Edit: The CF hood listed in his sig, is an item that bumps him to SM

They did ok at the Atlanta Tour Mileage may vary on the torque-less wonder, though. If you're not at a 100% STX build, they are cheaper than the 255s, for reference.
