Hey that is completely fine with me. Although I do like the rear wing, I'm fine with taking it off, The bumper and sides are the things that I really wanted to stay

I'm tempted to use the "r" word, but it was of no matter since my wing and splitter are already coming off anyway -----> sub-2700# or bust for 2011 is my goal, it's gonna be close ....

That would be awesome if you can get there. Knowing you, no stone will be left unturned in that attempt. GL.

That would be impressive. I weighed in at 2812 at the Lincoln MiDiv with a base model, 1/8th gas (light came on after first drivers first run. ). No issue of starvation either.

I'm at 2785# with a full size Optima deep cycle battery, factory & aftermarket aero/appearance bodywork etc.

dropping all of the body work back to stripped Base trim is about 25#, switching to a high capacity Li battery saves 45#, replacing steel shock mounts with Al is several #, lighter wheel/tire package is about 8#, lighter but less durable muffler packing is several #, almost there .... every last legal ounce is coming out

Because of it's capacity, 9 lbs. One with the capacity of an Odyssey PC680 is about 3 lbs

Nice! I was perhaps going for one of the 2.5lb ones too... but the price ... oh my

Can it deal with the heat under the hood? ...or do you mount it elsewhere?

I got a serious discount, but it was still more than a lot of people want to pay for a set of shocks, lol

Noticed earlier in this thread that a lot of people are using the PSS9s for STX. A few questions:
-Staring at some pictures, it looks like the rears are inverted, puting the adjuster at the bottom of the shock. Is that correct?
-I see a lot of ride heights around 13.25-13.5". Is this as low as people want to go due to suspension geometry of some other concern, or is this just the lowest setting on the kit? My CS car sits at or under 14".
-The generic curves in the Bilstein brochure suggest very little low speed damping (especially in bump). Anyone have an application specific curve?

Thanks,
jim

Jim,

1) The rears are inverted on the PSS9's. This makes it easy to get to the rear adjusters.

2) I set my ride heights based on the amount of bump and droop travel I wanted for my set-up. At a front and rear ride height of 13.5" I have about 1.8" of bump travel and 2.2" of droop in the front, and 2" of bump travel and 3" of droop travel in the rear. The kit will allow me to get down to a ride height of 13.0" all around if I wanted.

3) No application specific dyno curves. They can be revalved to your specs by Bilstein USA out of their Poway, CA office for a reasonable fee (~$125 per shock). They will include a dyno at your request. I haven't personally done this, but I've spoken to a Bilstein engineer at length about the process.

P.S. If you can wait for them, I'd get the single adjustable FatCat bilsteins which run about $1,800 or the double adjustables that run $2,700 (group buy prices).

My $0.02....

Thanks Chike,
I didn't see anything on a new FCM group buy. Is there a thread or a link for this?

So, umm, Jim are you going to be changing class letters on your car this year or just looking at other shocks?

Talk to George about the FCM shocks. I know he was working with them for a while but couldn't get them finished in time for Nationals.

Right now, Shaikh is still sorting out the details of the double adjustables, so if you want those it may still be a few months or more.

However, he has a good track record of delivering non- and single-adjustables, as these are more of a known quantity.

Excellent shocks by all accounts. Fast on the autocross course but comfortable on the street.

He does mention a Fall special on the single adjustables on his website still: http://fatcatmotorsports.com/FCM_Bil...revalve_NC.htm

One thing about the PSS9's, even though the range adjustment for low speed dampening is limited (medium to high speed range is better), the quality of the dampening with the monotube design is quite good. For my budget at the time (<$2K), these were the coilovers that Strano recommended. He had other recommendations if my budget was larger though...

My buddy who has the Vorshlag AST's on his STU E36 M3 (we've driven each others cars numerous times), finds the dampening quality very similar between the two systems. Also, remember that just back in '09 at Nats, Kenna and Jung went 1-2 in STU on PSS9's (revalved).

For the money, the PSS9's are just a great budget coilover. I do consider the FatCat stuff a step up as he can offer you so much more right out of the box.

Don't forget to mention your spring rate change

also worth noting that street tires are a bit less tolerant to low speed valving than race tires

2011 Tours

What National Tours is everyone planning on doing this year?

I'll be at the Dixie NT, Blytheville And/Or Delaware, Toledo, And Possibly the Blytheville Pro and the New Jersey Pro.

There is also talk of an Atlanta Tour on Mothers day weekend, which being only 4 hours away, at Atlanta Motor Speedway, that is a no brainer.
