Sorry to hear George. Good luck whatever you decide.
P.S. Have you tried sea foaming the engine to see if carbon build-up is causing the power loss?

Yes, I have foamed it since my last dyno, but I did not do it before the dyno, so I'm not sure how much it would help.
Even after the foaming, I'm still having hot-start problems, but not as bad as some of the people out there - it stills starts while hot, but takes 5 seconds or so.

Many swaybar set-ups are listed in this thread: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-racing-25/whats-your-stx-set-up-2010-edition-193171/

Not sure, but the Surgeline guys think it's off 10% or so. My dyno pull this summer had the same peak #s as my tuning session in 2009, but they had the dyno reconditioned over the winter, and most cars were pulling stronger this year as compared to last year. They showed me the coast-down curves and it was apparent - they dyno had less friction this year. Again, they were estimating 10-15% less power/tq this year.
Also getting the onset of hard hot-starts. I'm sure a new starter will help there, and will get me though the 2011 season, but it would seem the engine is beginning to loose power.
As for a reman, I made the mistake of bringing my car in with the stickers on it (was told a particular dealer was cool with it) but the regional rep happened by, and he put the kibosh on a rebuild, regardless of numbers (at that point the engine squeaked by from a compression standpoint).
So, I may be contacting Pineapple Racing for a blueprinted motor some time, but don't have the $$$ for it now.

Thankfully MER is located about 1/4 mile from the track, and they had a spare '04-'08 tranny sitting on the shelf. They had the car up and running again in less than two hours, and at a really good price.
I've put about 500 miles on it since then. Need to change the transmission oil this weekend and see how the new unit is breaking in, since I'm headed back to the Ranch on Tuesday & Wednesday of next week.

My original motor and tranny are still going strong at 80K. Local dealership did a compression test last year and the numbers were all strong (I had a cat which was partially clogged though which is now fixed). As she's no longer my daily, I'm hoping she can go another 20K miles. After which I'll either get a blue-printed rebuild on the motor (probably go with Pettit), or sell the car and get another Mazda sports car (MX-5, the next rotary car?).

Went to AZ this weekend to have some fun in the RX-8. Unfortunately I was way off the pace compared to Elliott Spidell in his BMW. Very fun course though. Driving needs a lot of work!

it's about a 3 - 4% loss per 1000 feet depending on who's philosophy you follow ... it just sounds flat in general and on the top rpm range in particular
Reno was a real drag; 5000 feet. Glad to be back near sea level in Texas, 4 or 5 local events a month is icing on the cake!

for some comparison here are my best runs from the Blytheville Tri-State Challenge weekend before last
ps: that's Carter Thompson heading out in front of me, those corner workers must have been fast ...
Saturday - big push-out at 1:18 when I got the front tires wide into the dirt, had to wait for them to regain traction, then almost got the outside cone. Doesn't really look like it in the vid, but I should have been inside the black tire marks that were well to my inside ...
into 3rd gear at 1:11 and through the 3 cone slalom just before that screw up, the course was a lot of fun IMO
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjAe3_VirLM
Sunday - only needed 0.3 sec to take the win, so I just tried to stay off the cones and be smooth rather than my usual crash & burn banzai kamikaze run
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wv2cLPgf6O4
special thanks to my co-driver Stephen for editing and sharing the videos with me, as well as keeping me honest behind the wheel. He's a good person to co-drive with.

Ran at the Texas Region SCCA event at Texas Motor Speedway last weekend. Saw Team's car there but didn't get a chance to introduce myself since I had to leave after 1st heat. We finished 1-2 in class and 6th & 8th in the PAX. Wondered why Team didn't sign up to run STX, apparently he was running in X class. Good thing - he would have taken a whipping in STX.

Congrats on the win Sunday. In my own defense, I had an off at MSR two weeks ago that apparently messed up the alignment - rear toe out = no fun, and goes a long way towards explaining shy my car was trying to kill me on Sunday. I had the car realigned this afternoon, and I'm ready for rematch.
I can't make ER this weekend, but come out and try me at the NTAXS event on the 21st. Loser buys the first round?

Thomas' R32 was not STX legal. The RS3s are toast so i just threw on the R1Rs trying to figure out how to get them working right and the other one clipped me on by 0.025 That was the one that finished 4th on Sunday 0.389 ahead of you
Still have a set of new 265/35-18 RE-11s laying around if you know somebody needing tires. I should be NTAXS. A short tight Pennington course may help you out some.

Come on Mark. You know my car's barely prepped at all. It's not STX legal b/c of the wheel/tire combo (255s on 17x9s and the fender roll/pull to fit them), but that's it. It's still got the full stock interior, stock intake with paper filter, stock exhaust and single adjustable coilovers. I wouldn't try to bring it to a SCCA event and try to pass it off as legal for STX.
Carrig was on 2 year old B-stones that he drove into Dallas from Louisiana on.
No excuses.
BTW, continue to make fun of Iain, we all love to do that. Your car looked very good out there and good driving considering the lack of grip with all the gravel.

Man you're still firing up the ole excuse generator!
10mm more tire and I've created an autocross monster!!! I'm building this car for track duty and have only been to 2 autocrosses with it for fun. My regular STR car wasn't available. Hell, I've only owned the car for 6 months and half of that time was on the stock suspension.
You wouldn't happen to have any time and money sunk into the development of your RX8 would you? Like years of tuning and thousands of dollars?
All in good fun. It's nice to have you back in DFW! You're a good benchmark for our autocross times.

No excuses, your best time was quicker than mine its hardly a rare event, but welcome to the BFD Club just the same
just the same it's only 7 months since everything is pretty much different and half of that was down the tubes because of a shock problem
Yeah, it's great to be back gettin' some good ol' Texas stickpoking lots of seat time will definitely help, got my eye on 2011 if the job holds out

Well it looks like I'll be in G-stock in 2011. I'm hankering for a slight change of scenery to keep growing and developing as a driver. It looks like Daddio will be campaigning a Neon ACR in the class next year, so I could have a once-in-a-lifetime experience of running against the "original" alien.
I will still continue to develop my RX-8 for STX in 2011 (and compete in STX at a few local/regional events), and my current plan is to run the car again at Tours/Nationals in 2012.

Well... parting out my aftermarket stuff. A few STX parts of note in the list to go out:
- AP
- Evo-R end-links + progress tech sways
- 17x9 RPF1's w/ 3 255/40/17 starspecs on them, plenty of tread left cuz I barely ran the car this season
Local FS thread here, but I'd consider shipping for someone who's gonna race the parts https://www.rx8club.com/nw-sale-wanted-146/fs-all-my-aftermarket-parts-207960/#post3787450
