Dumb Question Thread - no flaming or sarcasm allowed
Somewhere between $500 and $15,000, depending on mileage on the engine, mileage on the chassis, salvage title or not, body damage present, paint flaws, interior flaws, missing components, modifications, maintenance history, maintenance records, applicable warranty, and your budget.
Quick question, can I drive my 8 normally without my a/c compressor belt, it whines like ***, its winter so i don't need a/c and don't have the $$ right now for a new compressor. I'm sure i can, just something in in the back of my head thinks that with just the e-shaft and alternator belt in place it might spin a little more freely by not having the tension if the compressor and its belt tensioner.
Thanks guys..

Very stupid question when shopping for RX8's: How can I know if the (stock) RX8 has HID or regular halogen lights? (Besides being able to tell if they're extremely bright or not LOL)
It would be preferable to have the HID's come stock, so that I don't have to mess with installing a ballast and that kind of stuff. Would love to just buy my 6000K bulbs and only need to swap em.

I have to say i like the name of this thread because I've been searching and finding nothing on this topic. But some times when i start my rx8 the AC auto turns on. (I live in MI and it's winter) I just got my 8 back in December so I've only had it for almost 2 months now but I'm just curious as to why it does this? Most morning when I go to start it up and let it warm up before heading off to work it doesn't come on but if I'm out and about making multiple stops if i start it up it will just come on. Is the car trying to cool the cabin down to keep a certain temp inside? I can hit the button and the light turns off so I am guessing it is off.
Any one else see this? is this normal and i shouldn't be turning it off?
Thanks in advance!

I am purchasing a racing beat water temp sensor adapter because prosport's is a bit more of an involved install.
However, the threads on the adapter are a female 3/8''. My prosport gauge sender is a 1" sender with 1/8''NPT threads.
I remember seeing on a seperate thread that some1 maybe had a suggestion where they could buy a thread adapter at home depot.
My only concern is that the sender is only 1" so would a thread adapter somehow affect the sender's accuracy.
Just wanted to see if I could get any suggestions. Thanks,

. I appreciate it. I may use the installation time as an opportunity to flush the coolant and do silicone hoses. Not sure yet though as I believe you dont have to flush for the RB one where you will cut the hose, and in some experiences with a car 8 years old leaving well enough alone what isnt broken may be the best option; especially if i'm still getting used to the components.Thank you for the advice

I take it that when changing the flywheel, you need to change the counterweight at the front of the engine? There isn't one in the back is there? I've watched a tear down video or two... Just wanting to make sure.
Stock flywheel has the counterweight built in...aftermarket ones need a counterweight on the rear...
You don't need to touch the front one...unless you want to have the rotating assembly balanced if you do a rebuild

Alright, results are in.
Compression results:
Rotor 1: 7.1,7.2,7.1 Rotor 2: 7.3, 7.2, 7.3 The dealer said this was all at 240 RPM but they did not write the RPM rating down on the invoice, only what I just posted above. They said it was fine and mazda's hotline agreed.
Well, the car still shutters below 1k rpm, however. I had the best hot start ever tonight actually. I dont think they really did anything else so it was probably just luck, but it sounded great.
What is my next move? I have a lot of hope in grounding now. I did some searches on the 8 shuttering below 1k rpms and they said after getting a grounding kit it fixed their issue. I just ordered a maxground kit for the rx8 and we'll see what happens. I'm going to use my dremel that I bought for like 1 use and try sanding down the OEM groundpoints. I also have a BHR midpipe, new exhaust, and possible new coils coming. If none of that fixes the issue, I will be very sad.
Some1 also mentioned that the PPF could possibly be the issue and I may check that down the road.
I also may see if there's just a way for me to raise the idle RPM to like 1k. Around 1k the idle is generally much smoother. If my car continues to shutter like this below 1k rpms, my driver's side mirror is literally going to shake off and injure an innocent runner/biker.

AC comes on when the front defroster button is pushed. AC drys the air giving faster defrost. This feature is common on most cars. Not sure if it comes on when you use the center button to redirect the vents. Think it is just when the actual front defrost is pushed. If it is coming on at other times, may have a switch issue.
Ahh that does make sense and I tested this out. On my lunch break today i got in my car and pressed the front defrost button and the AC didn't turn on with it. I went to the gas station and when i started my car again it was still set to the front defrost and the AC was then on. I think if the front defrost is still on / selected when you turn the car on the AC comes on with it.
Thanks for the info though. I didn't know newer ish cars did that.

Thanks man! I wasn't sure where it went. Is it relatively painless for somebody that knows what they are doing to change it with the engine in car? I can do quite a bit on my own, but flywheels and stuff like that is not my specialty.
If you can get the flywheel off the rest is easy
It is a lot easier with the correct flywheel stopper adapter.....you need a really long bar, or an impact that is up in the 600ft lb arena

It is a rear fog light...mandated in some European jurisictions....
You could order it from European dealer...there used to be a couple of people that made replicas...don't think they are made any more so you are likely stuck with the dealer option
