Dumb Question Thread - no flaming or sarcasm allowed
Hi, can some one tell me where the R button is in the RX8? I was told that R in the name rx means that i can switch between race mode and auto cross mode. So I have been looking for the R button, so that I can make sure its turned off , because I been having to many Prius pullng next to me, revving their engines at me. . also can you have both race mode and auto cross mode on at the same time?

Oh the one that is next to the gear shifter thingy? that looks like its a eject handle for a jet? Next time I am on the freeway, Ill make sure ill pull it up really hard at 90. btw does it have to at 100, because I want to have the upper hand on that prius.
Make sure to open your sun roof first or else youll hit your head
Brettus i have a question, when the light turns green, do you do a count down before you actually press on the gas? because I do. The warm sensation that I get due to imagining that NASA is doing a count down for me, is like the greatest feeling in the world. Having my hand out the window doing a countdown, while person in the next car looking at me, makes me feel that they are thinking , GEE that guy is really cool . You may get a few haters in the back honking at you, because you know how haters are.
my questions are very serious questions. Brettus knows that I am being serious with my questions. Like the eject handle next to our shifty thingy, I was always scared to pull that up, because my car wasn't a sun roof, so I always thought if I pulled it up, i would eject into the ceiling of our car and I would be stuck there, with my head sticking out the roof, but it's guys like brettus that made me feel that I can ask questions wiht out being flamed . Anyhow, I am glad threads like this exist, because knowing is half the Battle.
Here is a serious dumb question from a newbie. Will Mazda really void my warranty if I use synthetic oil?
I've read through various threads discussing oil and have determined that synthetic oil should be superior to dino in the Renesis, but I keep reading warnings that Mazda won't honor the 8yr/100,000mile engine warranty if synth is used. Has anyone ever truly experienced this situation, or is it just speculation? I plan on doing my own oil changes and keeping all receipts for oil/filters along with keeping a log of maintenance performed.

Legally: No, Mazda can not void the warranty if they find out you are using synthetic
Reality: Some dealers take the "lack of a positive recommendation" to mean "don't do it" and will refuse warranty service because of it.
Practically: A dealer will never know you used synthetic unless you tell them or hand them oil receipts that indicate synthetic. Unless they sent an oil sample out for testing on nearly fresh oil, there is no way for them to tell if it's synthetic. It doesn't look or act any different when they are draining the oil.

For those of you that know:
Guys, lets not turn this thread into a **** fest of syn vs. dyno ok, plz.
I definitely don't want to debate synth vs. dino. I'm only curious about Mazda's warranty policy. I guess I can always just save receipts for dino oil I use for my wife's vehicle if I choose to go with synth.
Thanks for the reply RIWWP.
You're right. Let's get back to the sarcasm.

And I have seen other threads dragged thru the mud from topics such as oil.
I didn't want it to happen here. That part was not directed at you but other forum members that could answer your question.
It seems to be a topic of religion for some folks around here.
LOL dude I was being sincere ... I can't answer your question.

Alright guys, I could really use some help on this one. So I am installing my new exhaust, and I need to remove the exhaust shrouds to get the old dual exhaust out. So I read a diy on removeing the shrouds and it says to pop out the two plastic pins, which I did. Then it says just pull out twards the rear of the car, after trying for 20 mins of pulling and trying to push the tabs in so they would release I got one off but broke three tabs by pulling it to hard. I can fix it so im not to worried, but I dont want to break the other one. So, any advice on takeing these things out with out breaking them? am I doing it wrong? I would like to finish this up tomorrow night, so any help is much appreciated!

for a good question.
So can't help you ... I've never had to remove the heat shield to remove my exhaust.
Well it was not the heat shield just the two plastic exhaust shrouds. But luckily I was able to turn the exhaust sideways and slide it out with just one removed. If anyone does have advice though I will probably need it in the future, so don't hesitate to answer my question still.
I've never had to remove the shrouds to get the exhaust out???
It is easier if you have a buddy...then you can lower the front a bit and move it forward to clear the shrouds.....

I jacked the rear up pretty high and it still would not clear when I tried that. The hangers were haning up (no pun intended) on some bars underneath. Maybe I didn't jack it up high enough then? I just didn't want to go to high up.

I re-installed my stock exhaust the other day -sure it doesn't just slide right up there . Just takes a bit of getting jiggy with it .
