Drifting?

So there’s a local drift track around here that I’d like to go mess around on but do you think I have enough torque to compete? I know I can get sideways on backroads and just playing around. Also I’ve already upgraded my suspension and taken out some weight in the car so I’m just looking for under the hood suggestions.

Yes it's a great drift car. Breaking loose in 1st or 2nd isn't a torque problem, you just need to get the technique down.

Premix with OMP

Hi there! I just bought an 06 RX-8 GT with 58k on the motor and the previous owners never premixed, I want to start premixing but it still has the OMP and I’m wondering it it’ll hurt the car if I premixed with the pump? I’ve heard you need to plug the OMP to start premixing but I want to make sure before I do. Sorry if it’s a confusing question.

WI Oil cooler lines

Hey so I have been rebuilding an 8, recently put a freshly built engine into it. I was mounting up the oil coolers and lines. I was wondering about how to run the line that goes back near the oil filter. There's are series of 90 degree bends in the line. Like the one pictured below. Does the U shaped bend go over the engine mount? under the engine mount? I hope the question is clear. If its not clear, a picture of the oil cooler line hooked up in the car would answer the question.

Other way around: you need to premix if you plug the MOP.

By the way, please don't plug the MOP.

Need Help, very confused

So I just bought a 2004 Mazda RX8 MT with 95,000 on the dash recently, it was driving well, owner told me he got it regularly maintained, which I think is BS now. Its been about 2 weeks since and I have done an oil change and a little bit after I noticed some vibrations when I am idling and it usually jumps from 750-900 rpm at idle. I did some research and was convinced it was a faulty ignition system so I replaced the OEM ignition coils and wires with a Bennett Built unit today and used NGK iridium spark plugs. The spark plugs that came with this car were brown and looked like they had dirt on them and two of them had their positive terminals broken off of upon taking the wires off. After everything was put together I started the car and everything seemed fine up until it reached operating temperatures where the the check engine light finally came on and I pulled the code P0301 which is a misfire. I don't know what else to do, I cleaned the MAF sensor and added some seafoam to the gas tank and let it run thinking it couldve been my injectors but it was still the same, you could also hear something irregular from the exhaust. Im lost on what else to do, could my apex seals be on the way out? but I don't have any ovbious loss of power when I am driving and the car starts up when it is hot so I am really not sure. Maybe one of you can help?

Stages of Clutch

What does it mean by "stages" on a clutch?
I'm serious. 😂
Some dude is selling a Stage 2 Exedy Clutch for ~$350.

The higher the number, the more you should stay away from it unless you're making a LOT more power than stock.

Higher "stage" means it can handle more torque, and maybe more heat. Downsides generally include some combination of a hard clutch pedal (due to the harder-clamping pressure plate) and/or a more aggressive bite point that's harder to modulate smoothly (due to the friction material on the disc).

Unless you have forced induction of some kind, pony up for the stock clutch. It's really nice to use, lasts a long time, and has a lot fewer quality issues than aftermarket ones have.

Dumb question about selling my 8

Hello. I have an RX8 that I’ll be sad to let go but would like to sell but can’t seem to post it in the classifieds section. Do I have to wait for the 30 days as a member and the 10 posts? Thank you.

Yes. To be honest this isn't a great place to sell complete cars because most people here already have one. Unless it's in mint shape or has some other distinguishing qualities.

I am wanting to switch from the stock HIDs to stock halogens. Does anyone know what is needed? Searching has only found me people getting flamed for wanting to do this, so perhaps this is the only safe place to ask....

Whats up guys? Its been awhile. Hope all is well. Still having issues with my Rx8. I just had the water pump replaced and the thermometer at close to 100k mi. The two things lately that has been bothering me is hesitating when accelerating and a rough ride when it comes to any bumps whatsoever. I am going to clean the MAF sensor this weekend and take a look at the air filter. I think I replaced the air filter around 60k. Not sure if its due. Later.

It would be a lot of work for a downgrade. Any particular reason you want to do this? HID and halogen work pretty differently.

Halogen headlights also have different optics versus HID, so it's wiring + finding the right optics.

Have you taken the Mazda fuel pump recall? If not they'll need to replace the pump to perform the recall.

Have you ever improved the coils? BHR ign is really good.

My 07 6 speed auto was banging badly on bumps, and I already had pics of it bouncing low at track.

I put the Bilstein B12 shock and Eibach springs, and it raised car to right 14.25 inches. from random #'s of 13.5 to 14.25.

RX8 only has 36k miles, and 2500 miles on B12, but it's really a great way to get decent shocks.

It stopped the banging on bumps, and I was able to stop the bouncing on bad pavement by taking off rear Yellow Dot sway bar.

I have the rears with -1.65 deg camber which is minimum and helps rotation, and discovered I just need 2 #'s more psi on rear Michelin PSS 215/40r18.

With my heat gun, I think I need 35 hot front on 90 deg hot day, and 37 hot on rears.

Now I can go across uneven pavement with no boom. Hope any of this helps.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I did have the recall done and I forgot to mention before when I had the spark plugs replaced, the coils and the wires were replaced too.

I'll have to look into the shocks.

Thanks!

Personal preference. My eyes really struggle with HID style lights vs halogen. I know it seems backwards but I don't know what to tell you, it's just how it is for me. By optics are you saying I need to replace the entire headlight assembly? I see various different parts for either side, specified as DSC or no DSC. I take it HIDs were specified on all vehicles with DSC. Is the wiring something I could utilize the existing harness with a different plug? Thanks!

You likely have a Goodbox installed on the car. It is likely installed in the harness behind the display. It is a small black box

If you remove it it should go back to stock display.... if you can find someone to help you you can.likely change.it to say whatever you want.....

I had one.... but can't remember how to program it though 😥

Serious dumb question...how many revs can you get out of your 8 at a stand still until your engine starts overheating? It seems like I can only get 2-3 rev out. If I rev to red-line at a stand still on my 08 Auto GT my temps shoot up stupid fast.

first off you shouldnt be doing that. second off dont redline until the car is warmed up, once it is warmed up your temp gauge (which is a dummy gauge) should be just below half. if it moves past the halfway mark you have issues to address. overheating a rotary is very very bad

I saw a couple of videos of people shooting flames on youtube at a stand still...my dumb *** decided to try, and like clock work temps went up. And yes the car was already warmed up. The coolant temps got dangerously hot.
