Not yet, but Tim at Surgeline is really a nice guy. Have you meet him?

I know your watching this thread for the dyno, and trust me, as soon as I get the open loop logged and tuned with MM's v4.0.2, I will be on the Mustang dyno at Surgeline ASAP, with or without a dyno day event.

20 miles down....980 more to go until I can drive! Got the car back at 5 Today and now I need to go home and install the new clutch pedal. Anyone seen a DIY on how to do this? I tried googling it and I didn't seem to find anything worth talking about.

Congrats on the new motor I have around 430 miles. I will be out of town a few times in October so I will be lucky to reach 1000 miles before November. Hopefully I can get enough miles for the dyno tune.

My next log will be on a stretch of uncharted track where I can get up to 9200 RPM. I want to see what the MAF gets up to with the porting. I'm still way rich for NA.

Developed a slight knocking sound. It seems to originate from the back of the engine. Not sure what it is yet, but I cannot afford to pull the engine yet till next Spring. It will have to run all Winter like this. Any ideas? Not anything to view, just listen real closely to it.

Me too - still looking for more input in the troubleshooting forum thread I posted. The engine still pulls and runs fine at least. I guess once I have exhausted all the possibilities, then I will let an expert listen to it, but who would that be? Maybe need to drive to Atkins or Pineapple next.

Never heard of that one. I would be interested to take that dude off and look for anything that doesn't look right. Something flopping around it there can not be a good thing.

Regarding your water issue---weve never ran our air filter setup in the rain with an EXPOSED air filter. We run the sock and a dust/sand/grit shield on the front of it with the remaining 2/3 of the filter exposed.

Something I'd look for when monitoring power is what the car does in and around 7,200 rpm (or whenever you've tuned your valve to open). Typically we see weaknesses in engine power when this valve opens. This can tell you something is mechanically wrong with the internals of the motor. I am not familiar with porting results and have heard they are risky so be advised that all the mods you've done added up may reveal new problems that about zero people have experienced on this forum. Listen closely only to wisemen and tell all the forum know-it-alls to keep thier advice to themselves.

Are you logging EGT's? Why not. Invest and log EGT's please. You have a trick motor and it requires trick sensors to insure things work. Your oil pressure is fine and will totally be fine. You need not even look at it again or forever. These things don't have oil pressure related issues unless you're doing something really wacky. A/F and/or Lambda, EGT and fuel pressure is what you need to look at, monitor and log all of the time until you figure out you have zero issues. Your spending a fair amount of money on bling, I'd suggest to others that you'll get greater gains and reliability from a professional stand alone engine management (no disrespect to any vendors on this forum). Why do I say this? Very few cars with trick/special engines use stock engine management. The big boys use a fully programable products for a reason. A Motec will plug right into the stock RX8 sensors/harness and can do magic. Fewer people can tune this however several tune via the internet at a reasonable cost.

If you can work a long tube header into your equation and very unrestrictive 3" exhaust I'll bet you'll add 7+hp over your current setup. It will be loud but you'll make more power than your current setup. We gained quite a bit more going from stock to our best header and exhaust setup but it is louder than a front row seat at an AC/DC concert.

Keep us posted on what should be wonderful results.

Lastly, please don't be shy about posting lower dyno numbers that always come at the beginning of tuning. They should be ugly low and you'd feel normal if you were embarassed from investing all the time and effort you have. The BENEFIT of sharing this information is education to those who have no clue. There is a ton of opportunity in tuning especially when someone knows what they are doing.

Cheers,

E

Thanks Eric,

I feel humbled that you took the time to read my blathering at times in this thread. It is a long read and has allot of posts that could just get deleted.

I will take your advise, and log more items, like EGT and Fuel Pressure.

As for the noise, I'm still not convinced of what it is exactly. I have a spare OEM water pump that I will swap in to see if the custom pump is the culprit.

Oh, and AC/DC has already killed most of my hearing, at my age I just say huh? allot now. Will post results for you and all to follow as I make progress.

Thanks again man, your comments will not fall on deaf ears, even my bad ones.

Use the screwdriver like I suggested in the other thread - you will be surprised how effective it is .....

I did use the screwdriver like you mentioned, and that is what prompted me to second guess. But I also had the water pump belted and turning when I did it.

I'm letting the car cool down, and will disconnect the water pump again, and use the screwdriver on the LIM where I had it before.
