Sort of the opposite of what I wanted here; the "Blonde Bimbo", as my wife refers to my LY -8, is on the road instead of under cover, and it's the minivan being shopped for repairs.
I've since learned that Kumho Ecsta SPTs flat-spot when parked overnight in 15F weather. What a lumpy ride until they've warmed up a bit...

What was the diagnosis on that? Apex seals, water jacket, cracked housing, or just plain bad luck?

Hey all, I know it's pretty cold and miserable, but I just got my AEM cold-air-intake in the mail from BHR and I've never done an intake install on an 8 before. Apparently it isn't super hard, but it does involve taking the front bumper off to mount the intake. I was wondering if there was anybody out there with a garage who wanted to host an install day. It would be a good time if there were any other bits that people were wanting to put in they hadn't done, short shifters, strakes etc. I have plenty of tools, jacks etc, and I'll cover pizza and beer.

Yeah, I'm going to read over the DIY and depending on how cold it is I may even try doing it outside. I'm so sick of having piles of car parts in my living room instead of in the car. I haven't taken off the front bumper for the 8 yet, but the brief look at had at the DIY didn't seen too bad.

Cool. I'm going to pop down to the local garage I get some bits done because I have friends there and see if they could do it today. I'm impatient to get some of these things installed.

AEM intake is in... worked with my friend down at the garage today, it took longer than I expected but it was fun and the intake sounds cool. The best thing is the guy who worked on the install is a really cool dude and let me work side by side on the car so I could do the install solo now without a problem. He charged me almost nothing for hours of work so I owe him a beer or two at least.
The really good news is, he is probably going to do my gauge install, and it looks like my turbo install is going to be starting much sooner than I expected. I'm going to start a turbo install thread tonight with pictures of all of my incoming installations and the new intake install. More news to follow.
Edit: My turbo thread is up! https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-major-horsepower-upgrades-93/blackenedwings-franken-turbo-install-thread-163753/

whats up guys.. well the car took a dump on us two saturdays ago. we were in frederick out n about and the ole lady was driving. in the parking lot of the toys r us she stalled. being a typical guy i thought she just failed at driving. but no, she tried starting the car up and nothing, just cranking. any how i then got in the pilots seat and gave it a try, with a little coaxing i got her fired up and breathing like a asthmatic after a mile run, said hell i'm right here i'll take her to fitzgerald and drop the car off. well no power at all struggled to stay running and when i pulled into the dealer which was less then a mile from where this whole thing started. after pulling into the dealer and stoping in the service area, i realized the car was smoking. at which point i was glad i had a warranty.
one week and a half later the car is still there, the problem is fixed, the ignition coil went bad and cause a really bad miss fire. and superheating the exhaust and blah blah blah. fixed.. hope so. now just waiting on the heated seat to get fixed. any way seeing if anything like this has happend to any one here.
and to add insult to injury the loaner that we are driving is....... a nissan versa.. uber fail boat (very small compact fail boat)

My OEM Cat caught on fire after the Typhoon II kept sapping oil on the MAF which was causing all kinds of misfires eventually dumping enough fuel in the cat to ignite, When the tech printed out the faq seet it came to 1800 misfires in the last week before the fireball...

edit: Would those misfires show as codes in the ECU? My AccessPORT gives me a lot of insight into what is going on with the car, but no codes have fired so far.

Yeah, see that worries me... a lot. I just added the AEM intake and its running super freaking rich so I know its dumping fuel like crazy and I still have the stock cat atm. I'm hoping to get a new tune from MM very soon, but uh... *crosses fingers* I hope my car doesn't light on fire before then.

Also If you do get in trouble and need to ditch your cat, Cam from Pettit has told me that the best midpipe you could get is to gut the factory one, he says the colector that they built in is the best for the exhaust and is still the one feature that the entire aftermarket continues to overlook...
--- Also Taylortrans,,, yeah the computer said that mine hit 1800 degrees when it blew, melted ,whatever...

Well, I have no codes being thrown and my idle is perfect, I just throw way too much fuel at low engine load. I data logged and sent the updates to Jeff for a new tune, and if it EVER stops raining today I'm going to pop the hood and disconnect some of the AEM piping to see if there is anything suspicious going on inside it.
