Ouch! Dollars to donuts it was a Maryland Transit Authority cop, right?

There is some downside to not running a front plate. Namely, probable cause for the fuzz to pull you over, and a $60 ticket if they actually write one. I can't blame anybody for wanting to avoid either. Still, in the dozen years I've been in Maryland, I've only had three no-plate tickets -- two from MTA cops with nothing better to do, and one from a Baltimore County officer who was very kind in writing me up for no plate instead of the 10-over that he pulled me over for. BTW, a no-plate ticket is an equipment ticket, so no points.

My friend rx8convert22 did the Mitsubishi mod that mounts the plate off to the side as shown here:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-front-license-relocation-evo-plate-holder-38156/
Looks stock, and doesn't block airflow or ruin the appearance IMHO.

I like this one as it's even simpler and cleaner:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-offset-license-plate-mount-cheap-161677/

I carry the front plate and mount with me, and tell them I just got the mount from the guy I bought it from. Works like a charm. Though lately, I do put the plate in the windshield when approaching the tunnels. MTA cops need to get a life.

depends on where you're going for the front plates, I think.
In Montgomery county I haven't been pulled over yet. Have been running the car w/o front plate for 1.5 yrs so far. That may not be long enough for a good sample though. But I also drive short distances. Most of the time if I'm on the interstate it's 270 or the beltway, and the beltway is pretty rare.

Well, I did bend the rim with that pothole

Now I'm waiting for a repair quote, junkyard rim quote and new rim quote. For the price of the new rim, I could almost get the Volk GT-Fs I want (though I only need one rim, and I can't even afford that one )

Little off topic, but...

I was just driving on 95 North, onto 50 E and there was a nice looking young lady driving an 8 that I played cat and mouse with for a bit. Just king of leapfrogging along, very fun.

Anyway, if you're on here, nice meeting you (sort of).

Friday was a good time. I am getting ready to install a hard-wire kit for my radar detector. I am tired of going around turns really fast and the coiled-up cord sliding across my dash. Thinking of trying to install the remote mute button on the side in one of the blank switches near the dsc/dimmer switches.

Today I noticed this guy one street up from me has an 8. Nordic green, all i could see is it has HIDs. I wonder how long that guy has had it..

Gotta give props to Babcock's Service on Cockeysville Rd. They did a great job on my car. Took it in at lunch yesterday (Monday, 11 AM), they had the rim off and out to the repair shop by 4 PM, had it back, mounted and balanced by 11 AM this morning!

They gave me a great price too. That was a costly pothole though

They've got themselves a customer for life now. I was impressed by how gentle they were with my car and by their equipment (I got the grand tour! Didn't know this previously, but apparently they have the newest and most high tech alignment system in the state...)

How'd you know the rim was bent in the first place? Was it so bent that the tire went flat? Or was it obvious by looking at it? I'm asking because those are the only ways I can tell. If the rim is bent in some really subtle way I don't think I'd be able to tell. I hit a deep pothole and now my alignment seems off. I hope I didn't bend a rim as a result.

I knew because an alignment issue won't cause a wobble. A wobble is either a balancing issue or a bend in the rim.

I nailed the pothole and my previously silky-smooth-at-100-mph car was suddenly a very-wobbly-at-50-mph car

I couldn't actually see the bend with the rim on the car and tire mounted, but with the rim off and no tire, it was obviously out of whack. The easiest way to tell is to toss the wheel up on a balancer and see if it wobbles badly with your wheel weights in place. If it's wobbling with a previously good balancing job, then it's bent. Hopefully you are "in luck" like me, and you can tell you haven't lost a wheel weight because you'd have a clean spot on your rim where the weight popped off

Ha! I work in Timonium and we have a warehouse right there on McCormick. Drive down York to Warren every day.

Did you meet Bobby Babcock? Shorter guy with black hair. It's his place. Just start talking to him about dirt-track motorcycle racing and watch him go. Bobby's done a lot of work for me in the past. Ask him about an old white police Caprice with racing springs and he'll remember me.

BTW, just up at the top of Cockeysville Road on the north side is Interstate Tire. Guy that runs that shop is Frank, and he does all of my tire and alignment work including racing tires and cars. He's an Alfa nut. The shop is a bit of a hole, but you always see high-dollar cars in there. Been going to him for a dozen years.

you're much better going to summit point. i don't like going to the fudd's meets. no one ever shows up and it's always the FC's that come. it's been like this everytime i go, no more for me. i'll do other meets, but fudd's is a no no.

btw, i got to get the RX8 back on the road to do some more HPDE's. the 135i might see some track time as well...can't wait for track days!!

We should have lunch some day. I work right up the road in Sparks near the UPS depot.

I might have to take my car to Interstate for a more aggressive streetable alignment then.

I'm thinking around:

Front Camber -1.2
Front Toe 0.03
Front Total Toe 0.06

Rear Camber -1.4
Rear Toe 0.06

any thoughts?

Got in an accident.

I was stopped, car 2 cars behind hit the car behind me and they hit me. Not my fault.

My car is fucked up. I wanted to lay in the road and cry. I'm okay - got some serious back and neck pain.

Bumper and trunk destroyed - exhaust and muffler damaged - right tail light busted.

I slid under the SUV in front of me - their car is fine, my hood and front bumper are scratched.

"Possible frame damage" they said while they sawed off my bumper.

I tried to drive it and it's wobbling all over the place... plus somehow for some reason the transmission must be affected? It won't shift right.

Pictures to come. Pity welcomed.
