And Scott,
While you're here:
What's the story with the normally aspirated stuff? I'm begging for some info. How many horses?

It is not a new accessory. Microtechs have always used hand controllers.

Compatabile Hardware

The Interceptor-X is Mazsport specific hardware and software! Rest assured I am not going to make it conflict with any pre-existing Microtech product. We sell the full product line and offer warranty and support for all our customers. So Yes the 4 line handheld will allow map changes and with the Interceptor you can even password protect it if you like. Stay tuned, there are many Mazsport products under development for the RX-8.

Interceptor for N/A

I know everyone wants their 238bhp! I feel confident that 200rwhp will not be a problem maybe even 210. We do build streetported N/A RX-7 Fc's with 195-205 rwhp and now with more compression, more intake and exhaust port surface area and a better intake manifold design...Hmmmmm We shall see. I think this is the best place to start for N/A. If you do not have complete control of the engine the bolt on's will yield only marginal gains

So my game theory prediction was correct: at least two bidders had already decided they wanted to buy one at full retail ($1649) and bid up the price to $1625. At $25 minimum bid increments the next bid would have been higher than retail and therefore illogical.

PUR NRG : I agreed with you on it -- indeed you were right in every aspect. It's shocking how predictable the market economy is...

Provided that, it's also feasable that Mazsport set their target price @ what they did as this market is extremely limited. When there's demand, the limited supply will always be expensive.

To make myself feel better though -- you get what you pay for~ and this unit is indeed very, very attractive to me. :D

What's discouraging to me is less than 10 people have signed up for the initial 25 unit run at this point. For something that sounds this good it seems more people should be on that list but are getting priced out of the market. That could result in Mazsport dropping the project as commercially unfeasible which would be a shame.

I guess it's also b/c this unit is most effective on FI units and many people do not have the turbo yet?? That's my 2c. However, yes the pricing is an issue -- but if it sounds this good, and Scott has taken many many many hours keeping us posted and keeping us informed, i have full trust in the guy and his credentials.

Dude, I'd just hold off a week or two, instead of going through all the *** pain that the Emanage has been known to cause, just to undo it. Scott has had my car since April; if I can wait that long, I figure you could make it to the end of the month. :D

There's your problem right there--you're not swallowing, you're coughing up.

SCUDRUNNER: can't i just install the emanage, and then just take it off and put this unit on???
I want to install monday as i want to install before school...

Fanman, i realize it's a lot of money, but for the f'ing turbo to yield just about 210-220rhp for a 3k kit, and then this to be 1.7k and yield powers over 270rhp, i think it's truly the best bang for the buck out for the unit...

Mine runs over 240 whp right now (7.5 lbs. of boost). With a boost controller (& 8 lbs.) I would be looking at almost 250 already. Now, there video was damn impressive. For the tq. hit (I am running at around 200 lbs.-ft.) to get another 50 lb.-ft. is more what I would be interested in vs. the extra 40 hp (although that would be nice too :D ). Just takes away the main point of the Greddy to a certain extent...low cost. I'm just taking a trip to Ireland in a month, saving up for that.

BTW, I have an extra Apexi Boost controller if you are interested. You're going to need it (or some type of boost controller) to turn up the boost.

Sure you could put the Emanage on. But then you might end up back here on the forum in two days asking how to fix your jacked up idle, or wondering why your BOV (if you have one) is spitting oil all over the place, or why your car dies everytime you come to a stop, or why your left front tire goes flat every time the boost goes over 3.14159265 PSI. :D And after two weeks of frustration, you'll just pull it off and put on the Interceptor. Why go through the hassle? Wait a bit, and do it right the first time.

We have not been trying to make a little box of chips but rather a reliable, user friendly, plug and play engine management "solution" that everyone seems to want and need. Of course this is NOT an off the shelf MicroTech product available to the open public but, a propriatary system tailored for the RX-8 and based on years of building and tuning Mazda rotary powered vehicles. We have granted the consumers request to resolve a major weak link in the pursuit of a more powerful RX-8. We have approached it head-on and have chosen proven technology to ensure success.
Mazsport + MicroTech = The Interceptor-X EMS

ok, I have followed this thread since the beginning and was wondering about a few things. I use to own the CZ unit, but we had problems from day one. My car was fussy, and would ping between 6-7k. We tried a bunch of different maps and it just wouldn't seem to agree with my car. It would run fine for a few days then start acting up and run like $!#$!. Now I understand the 8 has quite a variance due to the MAF sensor, and that is why the CZ unit struggled with some cars. I am by no means an expert when it comes to tuning, in fact very green in that area. Now I understand this unit is completely different, but I wonder if it will not cause problems for 8's like mine as well? And if my car pings that easily, will I have to tune this myself, or will it potentially cause any damage by letting the car think it's all ok when in fact its not? I am very interested in this unit, and I assume it is a step above the CZ, but I am hoping it will be a simple plug and play for us NA cars. Now I also understand that this unit by passes the MAF sensor but can you elaborate on my questions?
Thx

Broker73, the interceptor-x will not retard timing in response to pinging. However, your CEL will light up since the OEM ECU will still hear it, it just can't do anything about it. If by chance you're using the interceptor-x and your CEL lit up due to pinging, just start driving conservatively until you get a chance to retune the maps and fix the issue. A few pings will not cause your engine to self-destruct.

ok, but when it pinged with the CZ unit there was no CEL? So I guess I have to get the equiptment to adjust the map if need be?? I guess I'll look into what is required to tune this if and when it comes to that?

The forum members who are running the Greedy unit and have invested a lot of money and time triyng to correctly tune their e-manage systems i believe wont readily spend the extra $1700 needed to change their tuning system .

A lot of people have invested in the CZ unit only to have it sit in the cupboard for months or not be able to tune it properly to their cars .( so they are being cautious )

Until we can verify how well this new mazsport system works and its ease of aftermarket tune on both forced induction units and naturally aspirated cars i for one will be keeping my money in my pocket .

Mazsport should sell a few units at wholesale so forum members could test it and report their findings to others , maybe then the sales would flow more , giving others the confidence needed to spend the $$$$.

I offered to be the test pilot for the Australian market , i am still waiting for a reply from Mazsport.
